The Lose scene is way better IMO-according to her beliefs, you've proven yourself unworthy and she can't reconcile her feeling with the Githyanki dogma-and she decides to hell with it anyway. Makes it a lot more meaningful and feel like a natural part of her story.

I don't even know if losing makes you unworthy. But I think Githyanki generally think that hurting their partner in a part of this ritual and regard it as a good thing. Lae'zel being visibly distressed, seeing player character beaten up, instead of proud of satisfied with a good fight shows how much she changed. From someone who thinks that pain and struggle are something beneficial to one's physical and mental strenght, to someone who cannot stand seeing her lover hurting, despite enjoying the fight itself. I started her romance as a "haha, horny frog lady" joke, planning on ditching her for Shadowheart eventually, but after this scene I had to take a break and think it through.

​@@ethosterros9430idk about Toxic. They set her up to potentially return as a Party Member/NPC in a sequel, and its true to a *real* story where happy endings just... don't happen for some heroes. Some never live to see victory, others have fates worse then death. Just because you defeat the BBEG doesn't mean your backstory is automatically resolved in a neat little bow. All that to say, I hated her ending(s), but in a good way - in a way that made me really care about the outcome without disagreeing or hating the game/writing behind the story.

This is what I love about the Lae'zel romance. Karlach is lovely and I adore her, but with her it feels more like you're the best option because you saved her, she's infatuated with you. I'm sure she cares deeply but it feels more surface level as a love story. Shadowheart to me feels more like a fling. Like you represent the good that is her future after turning away from Shar. It's a little casual all in all. Lae'zel feels and talks like she genuinely fell in love with you. Like being with you has shattered her world and made a new one.

Karlach is just as good as keeping things to herself as she is with literature, so ofc shes as subtle as a brick about it all. Plus she kinda has to speedrun everything. Shadowheart *might* be a fling but even in her Sharran path you can kinda sense she is held back by doctrine more than a genuine lack of interest. Plus she and Gale are like the only ones who want a happy retirement. Hell, even with Minthara its more than just hornyness considering you can be pretty much all she'll ever think about (worldconquest aside lol)

I love Karlach’s story because I’m a sucker for a good tragedy. Even the happy version - going to Avernus with her, possibly finding a fix for her engine there - is still rife with tragedy. Neither of you expected to get back. You both were content to live your lives in literal Hell, as long as you were together. But fuck. Lae’zel’s development is just so genuinely amazing, because her world *does* shatter, and you build a new one for her. It just hits ya right in the soft part of the heart.

The lose scene is really poignant. There's a fantastic parallel with Shadowheart in her development, both women raised in brutal and evil cultures but their kindness shines through it under the surface, and eventually nature wins out over nurture in the end.

Lae'zel will not tolerate weakness, in herself or her lover. Love, like strength, must be proven. That's what this scene is about. She is troubled by her obsession with your character and she has to know, do you measure up, or is she a fool falling for a weakling? A warrior knows you best by crossing blades with you, in a way false words can never hide. Win or lose, she learns something from this duel.

@@Shalltear773 It's a top dog culture. To escape illithid slavery, they had to become no less ruthless than them, which you can see in about... every interaction with other githyanki. For example if you go to the Creche to get an egg, you learn that one egg from the last batch is yet to hatch and the standing order for the caretaker is to... destroy the weakling that can't hatch, because it's clearly a weakling. Lae'zel share the sentiment. Or how the combat instructor tells one of the younglings to fight to the death, because he's underperforming. Lae'zel chimes in and notes how she had to kill like a dozen of kids that she trained with in a similar manner.

Love how they created these outcomes. Winning or loosing sort of enstablish the "roles" of the relationship, in a feral way, really on point for a gith romance. If you win, you come on top and can push her to the ground 'cause you're the "alpha", while if you lose the scene is softer and more romantic, and you are not so dominant. Not to forget you can intentionally want to lose. This game is amazing.

They both have inflection points. Shadowheart's inflection point is pretty early and then you will start getting her camp events which will rain approval Lae'zel however only needs you to do the Creche Story plus all the approval stuff as alot of her approval are concentrated in that area

I loved this part, you need to understand that she was my baby. She got the best weapons, the best armor, the best magical items. This bitch had 20 AC and resistances and advantage to saving throws in all kinds of shit. So, I had to fight my strongest warrior, with her inventory full of poisons, arrows and potions with my Wizard. My fucking wizard against the 2 misty step a day, 20m movement, sentinel, frog waif. She absolutely destroyed my ass, as in misty stepped towards me, hit me 4 times and almost killed me. The losing cutscene was extremely sweet, I hurt her but I was beat to SHIT. Tried again, changed my spells (dimension door + misty step), took out her venoms (that's cheating) but I left the rest of the equipment. What a great fight. Had to blink the entire map just to survive more than 2 turns, and had to cc her so I had SOME time to hurt her. The entire camp looked like a warzone with all the shit I threw at her way (web, grease, tentacles). Defeating her feels more in character for me, I literally had to mentally become gith silver to cut through her fucking steel brain... but the losing felt more appropriate. Great scene.

She absolutely wiped the floor with me, weapon knocked out my hand, flung halfway across camp, all i could do was hit her with a lightning bolt that did 7 damage 💀

I fought her as a Rogue/Ranger and she absolutely toyed with me. She kept using Disarmed Strike and made me drop all my weapons and had to just lept running the whole fight and could barely do a thing. If i ran away she'd just jump 100ft right to me. She made me realize how tough going 1v1 against a Fighter can truly be.

As a Paladin, I brought her down with my strongest smites after withstanding quite an onslaught of disarming attacks. It was quick yet intense. Had my grip on my blade faltered, she would have quickly taken the upper hand.

This was honestly one of the hardest fights for me. My first playthrough, I just picked w/e the hell I wanted and my PC was a Shadow Monk / Bard multiclass with so little combat potential, but so much fun in the Out of combat stuff. While Lae'Zel was my Carry for fights, wearing all my best equipment, and she was my Mule so she was loaded with *So* many Tier 5 scrolls, potions, bombs and whatnot.... Just glad Karlach was carrying the Rune Powder keg..... Fight started with Lae'Zel using the T5 10 turn Dance scroll, and then beats the ever living crap out of me with her big crits and extra attacks. Took me a good hour of repeating the fight, reloading at the start until I'd win the Initiative roll. Then having to do everything in my power to CC her in every turn until I beat her down.

Lae'zel is the hardest boss you'll face. After all, which boss attacks you 4 times on the first round with Menacing Strike? Thankfully, I had the same exact build on my MC and a better armor, so it wasn't very hard, but I slapped her with the 18 DEX gloves, so it was still damn hard. I can imagine how fucked up I'd be if I picked any other class.

This happened in my honor mode playthrough. My Laezel was a monk, so she was REALLY strong. The fight started, shawty threw a paralysis potion at me, punched me like 4 times, and I immediately “died”. Luckily, when you lose it just goes to a cut scene, but I was still emotionally damaged.

I romanced Lae'zel in my Shart origin playthrough and in that playthrough I turned Shart into a support caster while Lae'zel into my main gun as open hand monk. She drank a potion of speed, stunned my poor Shart and then beat her up so badly even before we could do literally anything.

There's 1 more version for this actually. I had a pretty damn strong magic missile build and used a max level MM on her. She actually just outright died. I had to revive her before any dialog.

It's interesting how if you try to romance Lae'zel and Shadowheart, Shadowheart says she doesn't "want to be your spare lover" but if you romance Halsin and Shadowheart she has no issue with it

I was not expecting to love Lae'zel so much when I started the romance. The fight with her was probably the hardest in the game, next to the final boss fights. We were both level 12 fighters. With the same stats and feats. Every attack we launched at each other missed. The only way I was able to win was because I had tons of bombs on me. AOE attacks were the only way I could hit her. Our camp was a smoking mess by the time the battle ended.
