You know them as part of part of the 19 Duggar children from Arkansas, but Jana, Jill, Jessa, and Jinger Duggar have branched out on their own to talk about "Growing Up Duggar.”

its good because kids get used to yelling and shouting and stop paying attention, and you dont want your child to get used to yelling and shouting. its much better to lower your voice, which draws them in to listen to what youre saying instead of tuning you out because youre yelling

You can see now that they’re parents that it’s stopped them from getting short with their kids too. It’s easier to parent without yelling if you were parented without yelling. Plus as a parent you don’t damage your voice and get your blood pressure up.

I teach and this works. If I get extremely fed up I end up just whispering to them, they immediately stop what’re they’re doing I love it. Saves us all the stress of yelling!

Hannah Snickers I could imagine as a teacher not yelling would save your voice a lot too. Because if you’re dealing with 20-40 kids in a classroom, chances are there’s a lot of correction to be done.

Coralily Rose Sorry to break it to you, but being gay is not a lifestyle. Why would someone choose to be gay in a world so filled with hate you can't even walk down the street holding the hand of someone of the same sex without getting stared at? Don't even try to say something like that about something you obviously don't know shit about.

News flash, everyone is not gay! Just because you choose to be gay doesn't mean it's impossible for others ( even a large family such as the Duggars) to be strait. Nobody on this earth was born from 2 eggs, or 2 sperm, your DNA didn't make you gay. I choose to be strait, you choose to be gay. I don't have a problem if your gay, but take ownership of that and realize people choose to be good, choose to be bad, choose to believe in God, choose not to, choose to be Gay or choose to be strait, and it is not impossible for all of the Duggars to believe in man+ woman. If you don't like strait family's or believe its unreal, then watch another show.

They talk like robots. You can tell they are literally trained to say these things and Michelle looks nervous that won't say everything correctly. This is rediculous. I grew up with the same denomination as them, Baptist and I'm so glad that I didn't have to live this way. It's so sad.

TJ-Melissa Hopkins Well there is mainstream Baptist and there is this Quiverfull Fundie movement that the Duggars claim. The two are polar opposites. I grew up in the Southern Baptist Church and I view these people as if the may as well come from Mars. All these extremes that are placed on the children are psychologically unhealthy. As parents, we can only give advice, we can't hold total mind and body control over our children, at least I can't. The Duggars have raised a bunch of emotionally stiffled robots. When a daughter is not allowed to go to the college of her choice away from home, that is a good indicator that the parents are jailers not parents. It's sad when you look at how these girls are programmed. There is not one original thought between them that they can verbalize.

Of course this has been practised before, only not for the reason you think. These girls are not professional talkers, they don't just answer interview questions off the cuff. they were given the questions before and thought of the answers to them and learned them by heart. This is common practice in media, no sinister plan by the mother. Your hatred is blinding you to simple facts.

Emily J. This "wordly" nonsense is maddening. Are the Duggars not living in the world, susceptible to its imperfections? Are YOU not in the world, breathing the terrible world's air, eating the terrible world's food? Do you realize how arrogant it sounds when you complain about "the dangers of being in and of the world," then saying that you're so "godly" so it's all ok? There are dangerous choices we can make, but society is not inherently dangerous. Hiding behind religion because you're scared to go out and actually make an effort to work, make friends, and adjust to becoming an adult is cowardly. But please don't say that you're better than anyone who isn't religious.

"A love for the Lord" = Honoring God's Word (The Bible) & Praying and doing well unto others, as they would be done unto you. "Spiritual Leader" = In Jill's definition refers to a future husband which is a strong Christian man who lives & walks with God everyday unto his family, community and the world & universe at large.These are literally the two most important qualities to have for a future husband to have unto his wife. I think the only thing these lovely young women are being groomed for is getting married and having kids. The 2 oldest are training as midwives, still centered around birthing babies. What about college for these young women, what about a life that has to do with something other than following in the footsteps of their Mother, just popping out babies on a yearly basis. You would think with the world like it is today their parents just might want a little more for them than that.

Absolutely! It's sad that these girls have so much potential that is being wasted. It's hard to watch them get older and still live at home, equipped with no skills to do anything but get married. Jim Bob and Michelle's "training" is now being put into practical use as they age, and it doesn't seem to be helping any of the kids. It simply makes them appear depressed and angry. Very, very sad.

Kathy Kitchin Your comment reminded me of my nephew saying that any woman who was a stay-at-home mom was a waste. I worked, but only at my ex-husband's insistence. My heart's desire was to be able to be at home with my kids. Nurturing, loving and rearing children to be strong, hard working, moral adults is not a waste. It's the hardest and most rewarding job on the planet.

Terry Estes If a woman wants to stay at home with her kids, great. I agree that it is a wonderful and rewarding job. I am fortunate enough to stay home with my children, and I love it. However, you and I know the difference. These girls simply have no choice but to stay at home. Their parents openly discourage them from any sort of "worldly" options, and I don't think that's either fair or healthy. In other words, they are controlling their entire lives (hopefully some wisen up.) Do you see my point? They are, for all intents and purposes, given no choice in the matter.

(Even if one of their sons did commit a horrendous crime at 14, they've changed him for the better). Btw, did you go counsel & help those 1400 girls raped for 12yrs by your favorite 'non-Christians' in Rotherham? Or do you just hate on these good people coz they are traditional, Christian & white? I know how some European women like you think. If these people were not those three things (especially white) I doubt if you'd come here for years to post hateful comments. All your HATE is impotent. They will continue to live & multiply & prosper beautifully. And their huge brood continues to grow by leaps & bounds what with the Bates & the Wilsons & countless others. All the while, little 12yr old girls get raped in the UK & the police ignore their complaints so as not to affect ethnic relations. These people are too nice to say this to you, but from the bottom of my heart let me say this to you- FUCK OFF you pathetic hating bitch. People that talk that way are really jealous. Look at most of the families today: Usually divorced or no married parents at all, kids are disrespectful, uncaring, lazy, etc. You have kids in their 20s and 30s endlessly trying to "find" themselves (because after all, that's what their parents did instead of PARENTING them), acting like overgrown children into adulthood. When people criticize the Duggars, I usually say, "That's ok. Because I bet your upbringing or the way you're parenting your children aren't nearly as good as they are." And I say this while at the same time admitting that I'm nowhere near the mother that Michelle Duggar is. But I'll admit it without being nasty toward them.

As much as I do NOT agree with their political or religious views, I can't deny the admiration I have for their 'throwback' to the way families were so long ago, when the older children helped with the younger ones, everyone had an important role in the home and the kids were so respectful. Even as an atheist I can see that this is family of solid function, a lot of love and a real passion (not over the top like pushy Christians) for what they believe to be right. Passion is always admirable, even if you don't agree with what someone has a passion for. I do NOT go with the liberal or atheist flow, blindly following with the pack. That's the epitome of religion and I would never be a conformist for the sake of acceptance in the community. I think for myself. -- And honestly, let's face it... the Duggars have stunning children. Every.one.of.them! Just gorgeous. I see families with only three children and they have at least one screw-up kid! But they have a reason to hold their heads proudly with so many children and not one of them with an issue.
@userexists123
@userexists123 9 жыл бұрын
Yes, back in the day of larger families, the older children did help with the younger ones. But, in this family, it becomes the full time job of the older girls to take care of the little ones. They even have teething and bed-wetting toddlers in bed with them. And we get weirdo Mom telling us that they all wanted to be together in one room. What? Do you really buy it that teenagers and young adults want to share a room with toddlers all their lives until their creepy controlling father chooses some man to transfer his authority to on their wedding day...... a man they hardly know, have never been alone with, never hugged or kissed or seen when frustrated or angry, and have only held hands with while being constantly chaperoned since they became engaged? Jill was even asked by JB who was going to chaperone her an hour before her wedding when she went to have devotions with Derick IN THE CHURCH before the ceremony. That is not a healthy way to treat a grown woman. It's creepy beyond words.
@sofuggit
@sofuggit 9 жыл бұрын
userexists123 Yeah, that part of it does concern me. And yes, the kids all agree that things are great, life is perfect, yadda, yadda... but it's all they've ever known. They've been 'conditioned, as religion does and requires. It's also what cult leaders do. But I don't think this family is really of the cult mentality, but they come pretty close. And I think it's pretty sad that mom would continue to churn out children for her other children to raise. if this happened in most other 'non-religious' homes, it would investigated by CPS and possibly prosecuted. But under the Constitution, they're protected due to religious freedom.
@userexists123
@userexists123 9 жыл бұрын
I too thought this was a weird but lovely family until I read a little more about the IBLP and ATI, both of which they adhere to. The subjugation of women is laid out in their teachings, masquerading as biblical. The kids don't know any better because of the creepily closed kind of life they are living. Women are seen only as helpmeets to their men and are discouraged from having tertiary education or any career other than wife and mother to as many children as they can possible churn out before menopause. Modesty is all well and good but to say a woman in a bathing suit is no different to wearing her undies in public is just over the top crazy. Everything is about sex with them. Even to deny their kids the pleasure of dancing to music, which is a pretty basic joy of life, is deemed to be exposing the boys to "desires which can't be righteously fulfilled". And Michelle says it's "because I have better things to do that shake my body parts". NOPE! It's all Bill Gothard. People fear Muslims are into breeding large families to eventually be a majority that can impose sharia law in western society. This lot are also dangerous in that they actively work to impose legislation that would restrict access to abortion and birth control as well as deny rights and freedoms to LGBT people. In a few generations there will be thousands of Duggars. Scary!

I'm not worried about whether any of the kids are gay, but I'm more worried about one or more of them questioning the religious views. I feel like you are born with your beliefs almost as much as you learn them with your upbringing. It's like a 50/50 chance. I knew at 3 when my grandpa was reading and teaching me parts of the bible that I thought there was no way that stuff was real. And I have quite a bit of family members who grew up as Jehovah's Witnesses, which is a very strict Christian religion too, and at least one child in each family was silently suffering because they did not believe. And it's hard because Witnesses shun people who leave and even family members refuse to talk to them, so you are pretty much being shunned from everybody you knew growing up.

I honesty think their isolated lifestyle is what drove Josh to touch his sisters. Always being forced to be around nothing but your bros/sis. Not allowed to hold hands/kiss while dating. A 14 year old boy going through puberty, in this kind of isolated situation is bound to do something. I don't think josh is attracted to children, but was more so curious about girls. In normal society most of us will at least secretly go off and kiss a crush, but they always had 24/7 supervision. These kids don't experience a kiss until they are married. All that pent up energy was just trouble brewing.
@akimbz9622
@akimbz9622 3 жыл бұрын
Using the puberty thing as a reason or scapegoat is always so nauseating to me. The main reason from my POV that this happened with him is because their entire teachings to these children is that its the WOMANS responsibility to make sure the boys aren't aroused by them. There is no teaching of self control on the males and how to control or release your sexual urges. I doubt they even teach a single one of them about sex until they're almost married. Their lack of teaching that boy has contributed to his behavior. There was no fault in "puberty" or isolation because he's 1/19 thats done it. If that were the case im sure quite a few more of those boys would be making headlines. He has a sick mind and his parents didn't get him the help or education he could've clearly used.

I really admire this family so much. I like their values and everything, however, I feel like because they are sheltered and has been kept away from the bad things in this world, that I'm not too sure if they had the free will to turn out as decent as they are right now. I feel like they're nice and full of moral because they haven't been exposed to the evil environment and evil influences. I too and my family is very religious and share the same values and morals as the Duggars. We moved to a different country and we now live in a city. I was not exposed to bad things and I didn't know there was such thing as drugs and what not , so I had to adjust to knowing that not everyone shares the same belief as me and my family and not everyone is nice and accepting as how I used to imagine the world to be. I now also have friends who are so different than me, some of them do bad things and some are good. I've been exposed to bad things and even though I have changed the way I dress, I am still the same person and I am still like the Duggars girls except I don't dress like them (no skirts nothing. Modern but modest). And even if I'm not as sheltered from bad things anymore, and I have changed the way I look, I still choose to be holy and follow God.

The irony is, they do believe it was a blessing. They believe it happened for a reason, to teach them to forgive, and get through hard times. Coming out the other side can be healthy - but not when you're still minimising it, and having to toe the party line, so your parents can carry on earning.

I don't know how anyone can look at these girls and not perceive how much more understanding, mature, and sophisticated they are than so many other girls their age. "why don't they go to college?" They take their studies incredibly seriously and are educating themselves to pursue vocations that contribute to society. They, asking with their siblings, will be able to do so much good in the world because of the way they were raised. They choose to live selflessly. Society could use more of that.

These girls are perfect examples of how to live for the Lord. They are still sinners but they are godly girls, who have wonderful role models as parents. I'm so happy when I watch them on TV and I've learned, as a Christian, a lot from them. They are great servants of God and that clearly shows for the bible says, be doers of the word and not hearers). For everyone who questions their skirt wearing. They wear skirts because jeans and pants show off your curves and butt and as a Christian, women are to be modest. Its just something Michelle feels convicted for her and her children to wear skirts. Its not like that in all Christian families but it is in some. It doesn't make them better or anything. Its just something they feel to do. I think the skirts are cute with the leggings. I'm going to start wearing skirts more often. God clearly gives both parents strength to raised their kids. Its their choice they have 19. There's no need to point fingers. They have God on their side. God can do anything! They love God and they show the fruits of the spirit! Im reading their books and they are truly amazing family.
