A word about what kind of man Don Ameche (Mortimer Duke) was. Director Jon Landis REALLY wanted him for the role but when he saw in the script that he had to curse, he said he would need to be permitted to apologize to the cast and crew and asked that as few ladies as possible be on the set at the time. And the scene when he would have to drop the N-bomb, he said to Landis that he better have at least 2 cameras running, quiet set, make sure the microphones were working properly, etc. because he would only get one take, one shot, because he would only say that word one time. Landis agreed. He later said in an interview that acting is an honorable profession that does not necessarily require you to compromise your dignity as a human being.

Fun Fact: Don Ameche, who played Mortimer Duke, really didn't like to curse, so he screams "Fuck him!", he actually apologized beforehand to the entire cast, crew on the set and did the scene in one take. A true professional. Another Fun Fact: The cop who says mockingly "it's an opera" back to Winthorpe is Frank Oz, the voice of Yoda. The more you know!

1. The booking officer is Frank Oz. (various Muppets/Yoda) 2. Beeks/Paul Gleason also played Richard Vernon in "The Breakfast Club" and the idiot police captain in "Die Hard". 😇 3. Landis didn't want Jamie Lee Curtis because she had always been a "scream queen" and he didn't know if she had the chops for comedy. 4. When everyone pauses in the restaurant it's a play on the old "EF Hutton" commercial. "When EF Hutton speaks everybody listens". 5. One of the most VHS pauses in history. Jamie Lee Curtis.😍🥰😋 6. GOOF: Where did Louis get the gun AND all those drugs for only $50?🤑Even in 1983. 7. Don Ameche's strong religious convictions made him uncomfortable with swearing. This proved to be a problem for the scene at the end of the movie, where he had to shout out "Fuck him!" to a group of Wall Street executives. When he did act out the scene, it had to be done in one take, because Ameche refused to do a second one. He also had an issue with the N word. 8. There's an Easter egg in "Coming to America" with the Duke brothers. Eddie Murphy at his best.

I love opening credits sequence, showing us the difference between working-class Philadelphians starting their day vs. Coleman preparing Winthorpe's breakfast, while the music is the overture to Mozart's _The Marriage of Figaro_ (an opera about servants pulling one over on an abusive nobleman). Does a great job of setting up the "prince/pauper" theme of the film.

Jamie lee’s nickname in Hollywood at this time period was “the body”. I remember after this came out all the kids at school were telling the S car go joke. The here’s Johnny is actually a reference to the Johnny Carson nighttime talk show, his announcer would always say “ and here’s Johnny “ before he walked out on stage. One of my favorite Movies of All Time. Not simply a great Christmas Movie, it is a terrific movie all around, with an amazing Cast, unforgettable scenes and endlessly quotable lines... One Comedian at the absolute PEAK of his comedy prowess, another Comedian coming off of a massively successful run on this fledgling Late Night TV Show called Saturday Night Live, and oh yeah... A drop dead gorgeous Jamie Lee Curtis, finally released from the shackles of being labeled the "Scream Queen" for movies such as "Halloween" and "Halloween 2", "Prom Night", and "Terror Train". (How many of you giggled when I said "Jamie Lee Curtis" and "released" in the same sentence, especially in reference to this Film?!?😂 I know that this movie is based on a novel called "The Prince and The Pauper", but it is a very unique and in many ways, Original, script. I love the dialog, the interactions between the cast (I mean, c'mon... Don Ameche and Ralph Bellamy!!!) but the setting is almost a character in itself... Philadelphia is perfect in this movie. It is gorgeous. Simply perfect! I love this movie! Me and my family watch it every Chritmas!!

Late to the party, but just providing some info about the baggage handlers on the train. They were Al Franken and Tom Davis, a comedy writing team for the early days of SNL. Of course, Franken served as a US senator for nearly a decade. Davis was a successful screenwriter who unfortunately died at the age of 59 from cancer.

The term. NEGRO back in this day had two connotations in this video - (1) the Black people did not like being called BLACK or other terms and NEGRO was the official acceptable word by the ( now days ) Black people. Even employment forms had the term NEGRO because BLACK was not acceptable until several years later. Also they use the term NEGRO in this movie to emphasize the racism of the time period.

Watch Coming to America. The men who.played the Duke Brothers show up as homeless men and Eddie's character gives them money. They say "We're back!!" It was a great wink at Trading Places.

Did you know if you turn the hat that you are wearing upside down and look at the logo it looks like a robot making it with a crab. I used to love the bulls until someone showed me that now I can never not see it when I look at their logo. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
