George Gaynes was an unappreciated comedic genius. His timing was always perfect, and he made his inept yet caring Commandant Lassard so likeable. His brilliant delivery during the podium scene is probably the highlight of the movie. You should definitely see the rest of the ones with Steve Guttenberg in them. They're variable in quality, but all fun. I think you'll enjoy them. After Guttenberg left the quality started going downhill dramatically. On the plus side, it gave some decent paychecks to actors who were regulars of the series who weren't getting many jobs elsewhere. Another comedy from this time period that I think you'd really like, that NOBODY reacts to, is the early Tom Hanks comedy "Bachelor Party". You should definitely check it out.

Your Pit in the intro: "But daaaaaaddddd I wanna be in the video to... See I'm a lap puppy..." I remember my Pit doing the same thing. Also, I was a cop. The whole Police Academy series made me laugh as a kid. After going through the Academy, I wish my experience had been like this. But noooo, my instructors were hardcore. Step out of a line at the academy; do PT. Tick off an instructor? You had 12 up your rear end until you corrected yourself. Obviously in my state most of us went through FTO (Field Training Officer) for almost a year before we went to the academy so you had better have yourself squared away before you went to the academy. I spent 6 months in FTO, several of which were on my own as a Patrolman Basic before heading to the Academy. 16 weeks at the academy with me driving 3 hours back to my city on Friday evening and then having to work my shift Saturday and Sunday then drive back to the academy Sunday evening and do it all over again Monday through Friday. I worked 7 days a week, 8 hours Saturday and Sunday, and 12 plus hours at the academy Monday through Friday with no days off. Graduated, and then returned to the PD and went through extended trainings, that then sent me back for a month to three months to get various certifications, plus extended training at the PD. It's not as easy being a cop as everyone thinks. I was also going to night school to get my BA in Criminal Justice while doing all this. Needless to say, it was nothing like the Police Academy movies, SWAT movie. Closer (minus the shootouts) is Third Watch. Want to see real Police work? Live PD (now called On Patrol Live on Reelz on Dish network). Cops only shows the "exciting" parts of law enforcement. Cops doesn't show the heart break of having to deal with a death. The mundane of traffic stops, paperwork, boredom waiting on calls or running radar on a city street or patrolling.... They never show the boring crappy parts of the job. Hope you see this comment brother. Hope it helps humanize the badge.
