Wtf, it's already realistic gravity in the actual game. Duke hits the ground but there is a conveniently placed med bottle with some scientific healing liquid. So he hurts himself and then just heals on the spot and walks away. Pretty realistic if you ask me

My thought exactly when I first played DN3D back to the days it was released. I was young and dumb and wasn't aware about tricky portals crap, but I knew that forcing player to fall, take damage and put medkit is a shitty level design.

That one section in Half-Life 1 comes to mind. Where a cieling pipe you're moving in breaks and you fall onto a table with a few med kits which you don't always land on right.

in the case of duke nukem it's not particularly offensive since you're supposed to take unavoidable fall damage right at the start of the campaign at which point it's guaranteed you'll have a full stack of health unless you blow yourself up with the barrels at the start moreover the game very clearly communicates to the player the fact that it has fall damage as a mechanic right from the getgo to avoid confusion later so while not particularly great level design, it has atleast some purpose to it
