Since this has been asked a few times: It's correct that other perks have higher value compared to Health if you get healed throughout a fight and not bursted 100-0. On the other hand, having a larger health pool also means less chance for overheal, which is more likely to happen on the new patch with the new heal perks. So it comes down to how much self-heal you have throughout a fight and if you have a healer that's consistently healing you. It's also worth keeping in mind that having a larger health pool increases your total healing from % healing, which is relevant for health and regen pots. This doesn't matter for EHP by itself, but means that having Health along with another defensive perk can further buff the EHP of the other perk in multiple ways. This is a pretty complex topic that honestly warrants its own entire video to fully discuss, so I didn't include it in the EHP comparison here. It's something I can look into discussing further post-xpac though!

Great video! Definitely some valuable info as I build up mats for crafting and upgrading. My old 625 PvP set as a healer ( LS and rapier) is a good mix of shirking fort, elemental aversion, health (replaced resil), and refreshing. I feel that enchanted ward would be the least useful in my build, as I’m most concerned of burst damage abilities from both ranged and melee. Avoiding melee attacks is pretty easy to proc shirking fort. And elemental aversion helps mitigate a lot of ranged damage.

awesome vid :) worth mentioning that a lot of this analysis changes significantly if the player is using a shield (e.g. relevant uptime would only be when the player is not blocking, which may make grit ward high more "BiS" for, say, a heavy armor tower shield enjoyer)

the thing that worries me about enchanted ward is the amount of cooldown reduction this season, we could potentially neglect those basic attacks and only receive abilities 70%+ of the time in a lot of builds

It really depends a lot on the specific weapon. As @JN1FPS has pointed out, Burdening Smite will somewhat prevent that in melee. I'm sure there will especially be some mage build that rely heavily on abilities, which is where I see the value for Shirking Fort/Heals for med and MAYBE Grit Ward for heavy. But then there will also be weapons that will always need a decent amount of basics to be effective, such a muskets, bows or any melee chasing build.

In your commentary you stated that "all" Armor - Elemental and Physical element is now equal on all items. Please look up "Sharak's Vest" - my GS 682 item has different values. Still trying to find a good calculator to continue updating my PiS (preferred in slot) items to BiS (Better in Slot).

What were the values you used for this this Shirking Heal analysis? Did you use the PTR numbers, or the PTR patch note numbers? Also did you add in the negative inherent healing in PvP modes, considering it is a PvP only perk?

Patch notes numbers! I didn't factor in the 10% reduction, I'm unsure if that applies for Shirking Heals tbh. Wouldn't maker a major difference anyways though.

Hi Duke! I very much like your videos but I'm into numbers as much as the next one, clearly correct me if you feel I'm wrong but I've tried to double check as much as I could: You're saying the HP perk gives you the most eHP but I think you're considering a dps race with those data, which is fine! It would be impossible to have proper calculation with a fight that involves variables of any kind. However, the HP perk gives you a single instance of extra value that you make use of only once while every other n% damage reduction perk will proc every time a damage instance is fired, this would mean that at the very beginning of the fight when (example) you have 1100HP with the HP perk and I have 1000 with n% dmg red you'd win the fight but if we both were to get healed through a healer, potions, leeching or anything else, my damage reduction would make me get an higher total value of eHP than you have - Long story short: actual real scenarios involve fights where the eHP different at the start of the fight compared to when the fight ends, it's a progressive change if any of us can somehow heal himself and the longer the fights drags on the bigger is the advantage in HP if anyone's gear involve n% damage reduction. Brilliant video nonetheless, I just wanted to point this out to extend even further the quality of this channel

Maybe I missed it, but what are the assumptions being made for these perks? Uptime estimate on Shirking Fort/Grit Ward? Are you calculating Aversion perks/Enchated Ward as you are only facing damage that they mitigate?

These are all based on 100% uptime/taking the kind of damage the perks mitigate. Hence the amount of qualifiers I discussed throughout the video

I think generally more elemental gems than before due to the INT GA. Could also be worked around by running a void prot ammy though.

Does grit ward scale additively with the greataxe and warhammer grit reduction passives? If so, I could see it being useful on those two weapons since they have a lot of grit uptime through most abilities and basic chains.

One thing that wasn't mentioned is that the health perk does not make the health your healer gives you more valuable, but perks like grit ward or elemental aversion and so on do. So if you look at the numbers from the perspective of "how much damage per second do i need to take to die through a sacred/DE?" then the numbers can change, especially in wars. I suspect health is a little overrated unless you're taking a lot of duels or smaller scale fights but I don't understand the damage formulas well enough to calculate the "amount healed" breakpoint for the various perks to provide the same protection as the health perk.

I think I agree with this. Having more health is nice and all but that doesn’t do anything for extended survival or durability. It just means you have more health. Shirking heals is good and all too but what happens when you get exhausted and run out of stamina. Same thing with shirking fort, you benefit from all the fortify from dodging attacks but that’s just added defense, there’s no bonus to incoming heals. So to me it makes sense to get a mix of health, shirk heals, shirk fort and freedom. Maybe even some invigorated for med and heavy builds because 5 perks of just health really isn’t that special unless you mix it with other combinations of perks depending on your class or play style

None if this is calculating for crit. This isn't a comparison between equip loads, but between different perks in the same equip load.

Grit ward applies to all damage, enchanted is only regular attacks.

4:30 in my opinion you gotta take the fact into account that max health doesnt mitigate any damage. Thus any hp you get healed, any hp you gain from potions wont be mitigated. If you got some other ward / dmg reduction perks the heals will also have more EHP than they would when using the health perk. Max health is only useful when you actually hit full hp, outside of that i would consider it quiet bad compared to the others. Obviously if there are no better choices im still gonna use it, but you see my point right?

A lot of these comparisons focus on 100 to 0 comparisons, which only makes sense if you are not being healed. But even without a healer, you have things like Leeching, Shirking Heals, and potions. Once you account for this, you would quickly realize that Health gets worse the longer the fight goes on. With all of the other defensive perks, you get the full value in eHP immediately upon heal. With Health, you only get value when you exceed the HP would have had without it. In other words, Health only makes sense if your healing sources can pay off your "heal tax" in full. In group fighting situations against equal opponents, this is highly unlikely. So at best, you would take 4-5 Shirking Heal, 4-5 Ward, and the remainder in Health after Invigorated, Refreshing, or Harnessing (which is to say, no Health in most cases).

I have had around 800 hours in the game - PVE player , by looking at it it’s overwhelming me to the point with the question what should I do , I really like to come back and play but , on the back of my head, you will be so behind 🤔. There are tons of drops from PVE content that will help you keep up with majority of the player base. Tons of good named items that you can upgrade with your choice of a third perk. I wouldn’t look too deep into it especially this early into a season; some of the perks could be nerfed/buffed and this all changes hah

Health replaced resillient and became the mandatory perk, but at least other defensive perrks aren't as good as before and there are many different build options. Stacking defensive perks was really boring anymore, looking forward for new system. Still like you said it would be better if they nerf both health and shirking heals, there is still some defensive perk stacking benefit remaining.

They just need to implement a weapon perk which makes % of max health/bonus health damage and health won’t be the best anymore :)

Totally agree with that. It is nice to have counter perks to meta perks just to keep them in-check. Let's hope that people will experiment a lot once expansion goes live for a month or two, in order to give their valuable feedback to the devs.

Dev already say they don't mind the health perk is better than everything else because it can be used for pvp n pve So the complaining bitches can't say excuse anymore to not do mutations cause they only have 1 gear set to play an mmo

The most common mistake about perks like health is they aren't as powerful when you add in healing. When you add dr you are making healing more effective on you. When you add health, the healing stays the same. Health is a good perk for squishies where they aren't healed a lot, but anyone who takes damage often loses value in health vs a defensive perk.

you cant really say this yet. we can speculate from how the PTR was and that is easy to say health and shirking heals but we do not know if they changed the perk and we dont know the new meta yet. So please do not pay to much attention to videos like this, its just speculation.

Fake numbers but a chest plate will be 500 ele AND 500 phys protection now. It's even. As opposed to certain chestplates being 350 and 450 etc
