#1 insulated wire has to have a individual copper strand thickness greater than 1/16" which is roughly equivalent to 14 awg solid. Those fluorescent fixtures typically have either 16 or 18 awg solid wire inside them which would be #2 insulated.

Get you a pair of the Milwaukee A 5 cut level gloves. The big hardware chains that sell Milwaukee sell those gloves. They're about the same price as the gloves you have but they are much more resistant to those types of cuts. And they last a really long time too. Looking at them, you'll say no, they won't last a long time , but I wear mine a lot scrapping and they keep lasting.

It's much faster to switch to a corded 4.5" grinder with cut off wheel to cut the beads instead of sawsall No need to cut across the tread just up the sidewall on both sides a bit and peel the tire off 1 of the disks should last long enough for at least 8 rims and they are about a dollar each Only takes about 2-3 minutes a wheel

you DO KNOW that in those fluorescent lights,the little black boxes you cut the wire off of, the ballasts, are worth quite a bit of money.. they can go per piece or some places just do it by weight.. but it could be a few dollars per pound... I don't remember how much...but maybe $3 a piece .. I point this out because I threw about 200 of them in with the steel light housings because I didn't know.... that was about $600 down the drain 😢
@burniezarsoff4118Ай бұрын
Dude the ballasts that you left in the flouro lights is worth more than the wire you kept. My scrapyard takes them and transformers as electric motors. About $1.10 per kg.
@thubprintАй бұрын
My yard does not pay well for them, about 0.10c/lb lol. So I’m quite happy not thinking about them at all! I did do a video where I broke down a whole bunch just to see if it was worth it, I was surprised to discover that it is! Pretty messy though. kzbin.info/www/bejne/epPUn5WagsyAe7M

Oh nice! I actually think I’m gonna move on from the lead melts, I don’t particularly want boiling dusty lead to be a big part of my adult life lol. For what you probs get for those alloy wheels from scrappy and the tyres look legal might of been better selling them on market place
@burniezarsoff4118Ай бұрын
Depending on size, l get $20-$40 per alloy rim from the scrapyard. Unless l have a full set of 4 rims with good tyres it's usually not worth the hassle of trying to sell them privately, for the few extra dollars l might get.🤷♂️
@pennybeacham6461Ай бұрын
@burniezarsoff4118 omg how much.😮 i get a fiver each for the alloys
@thubprintАй бұрын
I definitely don’t get that much! I’ll get an average of $10 per rim at the yard but the overall sentiment is the same. Most of the rims that I get are from trash bins because they have visible damage and in serious need of repair. That’s not to say I haven’t found decent sets or even singles but I’ve tried to sell them many times before and found that they rarely ever move, and most of the messages I’ll get are from other scrappers trying to pick them up for less than scrap value. I have tried, it’s more trouble than it’s worth, I’ll take the $10+ each and move on happily
@pennybeacham6461Ай бұрын
@@thubprint yes i feel your pain,ive had both good times selling on market place and waste of time and it does sometimes make you think ive had a set of alloys with decent tyres on up for sale for £40 and they were on market place for a while and no sale.I did think its literaly more to get a part worn than all 4 with alloys.
@robertfranczak9382Ай бұрын
Why did you not take a hammer and smash all that glass first then use a screwdriver to pry the rubber, then pull the rubber?
@thubprintАй бұрын
To preface my answer, I think we can both agree that my method was flawed 😆 I’ve done plenty of windows this way in the past and found that it ends up cleaner and easier to pick the glass out in large sheets, otherwise I just end up sprinkling shards and fragments everywhere. This one was obviously a different type though, and next time I find a double-pane with rubber gasket center I will remember how it went this time lol. Smashing it all out then peeling the rubber separately is definitely the move with these

It’s basically the alley culture around here, lots of people realize scrappers are cruising around and they place their metal bits out back for them. The city garbage will only take what is in the bins so anything left outside is assumed to be out there for free collection by anyone who wants it
