Chuckled at the "Your pitch was too forced" sentence. A mom never stops teaching her kids to sharpen/perfect their skills even after a deathmatch. Like a mama lioness teaching her cub how to use his claws better after completing their first hunt together. Even their run for survival on the dunes was played out like a mama lioness and her cub. I enjoyed their mother-son dynamics in the movie, adds a nuanced gentleness in the mix of grand space and hard battles. I've been on a NatGeo marathon sorry.

Jedi comes fro Jidai in Japanese meaning era. Era of what? Skywalker, derived from Dakini in Sanskrit referring to a group of individuals often associated with Vajrayana Buddhism who have the Abhijna (Higher Knowledge) and the ability to manifest such knowledge into reality via Iddhi (Psychic Powers). Occult Buddhist Orders that pertain to this are the Adepts of Agartha headed by the Dalai Lama, Order of the Green Dragon headed by the Emperors of Japan, and White Lotus headed by the Emperors of China, all of which were co-partners. Emperor Ashoka of Maurya had his Nine Unknowns but their objectives were separate. In WWII the Adepts of Agartha and Order of the Green Dragon co-partnered with Hitler and his SS of the Fourth Reich. When Berlin was sacked many SS in Tibetan Attire and Monks were found having committed Seppuku (Samurai Suicide).

Such a Badass scene. Lady Jessica has likely played the "wise but fragile mother" role all Paul's life. I love how disarming it is to go from the woman who was barely holding her emotions in, to letting righteous anger allow her to take complete and utter control of the situation. This movie is full of badass women, but Jessica's scene here takes the cake for me.

This is actually one of the scenes that I feel like the book did better. In this, Jessica simply tells the guards to let her go and get rid of the deaf one, while in the book she basically turns them against each other by “seducing” one, causing them to literally fight over her. It moves away from the now classic Jedi mind trick and is more persuasive than outright commanding.
@stevowilliams82792 жыл бұрын
I preferred it as well, I watched the film before reading the book and I didn't realise the book didn't use this star wars version of the voice, i thought it was always like that in the lore.
@conorquinlan94442 жыл бұрын
Ya definitely a misinterpretation on Denis’s part. My understanding of the voice from the book was that it was the careful choosing of words and pitch (warranted as seen in the film) and manipulation thereof to plant seeds in the victims mind and make them vulnerable. This was one of the parts of the book that impressed me the most and one that I felt the film did a disservice to by making it like the jedi mind trick as you said.
@soufian27332 жыл бұрын
I didn’t think this was a bad change at all. “Persuasive seducing” would’ve been too confusing on screen and Denis is extremely faithful to the book so I’m sure they tried to adapt it like that but it didn’t work. Besides, the Voice is also portrayed as outright commanding later in the book (Paul using it on Sardaukar spies)

I think the sound design for this movie is phenomenal but I think the specific processing they settled on for ‘the voice’ sounds too much like a diabolical giant bug villain. it’s kind of silly tbh. It could be much warmer, even seductive, something that marries masculine and feminine together. or go in a different direction and mix those compressed/low frequency EQing with something innocent and child-like-something to contrast against the severity of phrase like “kill him”
@rexringtail4712 жыл бұрын
I agree halfway. They should have used an infrasound effect, but the liability would be high. The voice is not really up to the quality of the rest of the film. Infrasound would have both grounded it in one of the only known sounds that could have the effects the voice purports to, and also freaked the audience out.
@alexv11542 жыл бұрын
The sound design for the Voice doesn't really come across on youtube. In theatres it literally shook our seats with the force of it. also, the Voice isn't a seduction, it is an absolute command that overules all other thought.
@moonlight39echo2 жыл бұрын
@@alexv1154 Exactly, it was meant to be primal, old, the voice of generations speaking with you. Too many times is a succubus whispering in the ear, giving you what you desire. The Voice, the voice screams at you, you are nothing but a tool to MY will.
@Johnston2122 жыл бұрын
After I saw this in theaters, I went home and watched the Sci-fi Channel Miniseries. I think that theirs was a bit better. The nature of the BG is that of subtlety and deception, playing out a long game while pretending to exist only to serve. The sound of the voice should reflect that, but it comes across as too loud and coarse.

I think the problem is that, while the film is well-made, it's not creative. So voice = big scary monster sounds was as much as they could imagine.

@@AdvancedKrizalid It's basically super-safe Dune. The director has a high profile commercial failure (Blade Runner 2049) and was essentially given a second chance by Hollywood, provided he didn't do anything too "out there". This is more effective in showing 1) they are on borrowed time and 2) the emotional toll on Paul later when it comes to killing.
