I love when combats have an action movie quality to them. The visual of Veo feather falling toward the prismatic wall and then breaking Old Man Night's concentration causing her to fall the other way was awesome - and of course the tension went even higher...

Xel’vocah is almost certainly a level 20 Necromancy Wizard, with Spell Mastery with Silvery Barbs (1st level spell) and maybe Misty Step (uncertain, because he used his bonus action teleport after casting a leveled spell). In addition to not expending spell slots when casting these spells, you also can cast these without components (material, somatic and verbal) The chamber transformation is the custom lair traits Monty made for the Acient lich, so there’s nothing to say on that. In the fight, he used 2 Meteor Swarms and 1 Prismatic Wall, so we know he has 3 9th level spell slots, potentially 4 because he has advantage on Ability Checks and Saving Throws, also imposing disadvantage on attacks rolls against him, which is the spell Foresight, another 9th level spell. When Sebastian tried to cast Dimension Door, Xel’vocah used “Arcane Denial”, which is essentially “Negate Spell” trait found in the Monster of the Multiverse book (the new Alhoon monster has it).

Hi, I haven't watched any of this series but I did watch the promotional Pluto Jackson miniseries. I decided to give this a shot and I think you guys did pretty well to set it up for a new viewer to the series. A player character debating becoming a lich in the first 10 minutes is a pretty cool hook and I'll probably start tuning in each week. 12:50 into the vid.

There are 3 seasons were they play two groups of characters, this is the first group. There have a couple of one shots with different characters in the same universe, so you won't need a lot of back story for those. BTW the ones shots are like two or three episodes, Ginny D of You tube fame was a guest star in the last one.

I love watching monty’s enjoyment at playing the ultimate mage, using all the spells and tactics they talk about in so many videos, but also using all that to teach the characters how they can deal with these strategies and overcome weaknesses

Yea. Master moves like: 1) Teleport Pluto 2) Grapple 3) Antimagic field And do these as delayed actions (and find some weird way to do this on 1st turn...). Works pretty well against single pure magic users, but not strong ones... Make other combos too... You may also use rings to cast some powerful spells and if they are countered, then there is an opening during that turn... Making enemy to use their capabilities, like their single reaction, on lesser things is a good thing if you can pull that out. Get Veo a combo of magical arrows (Hawkeye type...). Dispel magic, paralyze, silence, ... arrows would be nice... Can someone carve runes to items? That would make this much easier and cheaper... Also using shot arrow as a magical focus point that you may aim even without seeing it gives some extra options. Like arrow hits and then you may cast your spells to that location without aiming, like those Sebastians Eldrich blasts... You cannot avoid, but you may still resist, spells if they are casted within you... Sebastian has not really had his chances to feed on souls... Willing to die ones are hard to find. But now it seems like any soul is hard to find. Making Sebastian stronger via souls is a long term goal. Pluto needs real shields and resistances against magic... Magic mirror or something like that could work... Also tomb like high hp shield that can be used as reaction is needed too... Teleport and abilities to get flying enemies are a must too.

Yes, Pluto could have won his fight. Dimension door 70 ft above zelvaka, out of counter spell range. Cast anti magic field on himself using action surge from ring of spell storeing. Both plummet to the ground and land prone in an anti magic field. Pluto can then stand up with half his movement. He is then based with zalvaka in the anti magic field while he has sentenal to prevent movement.

Probably the best episode character development-wise. Monty through an NPC helped the party understand their potential and how to leverage their own abilities. I think one shots like these to learn high level D&D would be so helpful and its awe inspiring. It doesnt feel like DM mercy cheese but it isnt brutal and story ending DM crushes party TPK as a climax either. Beautiful

Plz try putting Pluto into combat to action surge with invisibility (can make it the whole group "wink wink" or greater invisibility. Pluto is now both harder to hit and critting more from advantage. Potions for pluto

Monty: "Understand that there is risk to mixing potions" Me: Not if your my players! In my Drakkenheim game one of my players who was a wizard drank a Potion of healing and then an Aqua Delerium (which restores 1d6 spell slots for those who don't know) forgetting that about the potion mixing rule. So he had to roll a d100 to determine what happened and the lucky son of a gun rolled the 1% chance to have one of the potions give him a permanent effect. I gave him the choice of rolling the potion of healing dice and gain that many hit points, or roll 1d3 and increase the maximum number of spell slots of the level rolled (they were level 5 at the time) by 1. He chose the spell slots and rolled a 3 so he now has four 3rd level spell slots

Shield Master do not half damage on a failed save unfortunately. Veo broke Xel’vocah concentration on Reverse Gravity already so he used Telekinesis instead

6 characters. Each player portrays two main characters throughout the 3 seasons. At first their stories are separate, but then they converge and the players alternate between them.

Agree this wasn’t any real advice, Pluto summed it up perfectly. “You hit me with a Moon”. Potions of Invulnerability are the true MVPs of this game. And this Disjunction spell is quite a mean move if you balance encounters with potions in mind. But there is a hint of truth that action surge shouldn’t be used on dash when working with a team, It should be used on burst damage (although this was quite a reasonable play by Joe knowing he had maybe a turn or two to maximise damage or be killed.)

I learned that Pluto needs better magic items. Unfortunately Martials are super dependent on their DM to make them on par with Casters. And people wonder why multiclassing is so prevalent. 😂

I actually think this episode is the exception, showing Pluto in a very bad light. Most combats, he is the Backbone of the team with damage that greatly surpasses Veo (especially with Ignacious the OP blade). What I did learn is that without Potions of Invulnerability that DOUBLE your HP and with all buffs removed, anyone will be screwed over.

Pluto and Rudy have had episodes being damage monsters compared to casters. There is a good spotlight shared across the campaign of who does awesome stuff.
