This is possibly the best playthrough I have ever seen of this game on you tube: well narrated, well explained, and enticing from start to finish. Also beautifully painted miniatures (was just a nice bonus, not essential, but hats of to you for how lovely they look). I`d loooove to see you do many many more of these D&D Adventure System videos, especially when you bring the game to life so superbly.

Thanks so much for the kind words; that's high praise indeed! I do have plans to do some more playthroughs eventually, but they're quite hard to fit into the schedule. I want to do something with a big boss fight.

Thanks. I think this game is great. I've done two playthroughs so far showing different aspects of the game, but I haven't shown off a villain yet so I might do another playthrough with a proper boss fight at the end. It really depends if enough people are interested in seeing it!

So that went pretty well - some good dice rolling from you, and it all unfolded in just the right way. Fairly unusual, as you said. Having just got Wrath of Ashardalon in this series these playthroughs are very good for reminding me of the rules, and a few little choices about placement etc. that are very interesting. Am loving this series, and would definitely like to see some more.

Yeah. Normally these games of D&D involve a lot more screaming and running around as monsters pile up everywhere. This was a by the books extraction of a magical artefact. I'm sure the next mission will be pure chaos.

Brilliant play through and yet again I'm learning to play a set of games I have had for years. I have Ravenloft, Ashardalon, Drizzt and Temple of elemental evil. Tried to play Ravenloft a few years ago with my nephew and got the rules totally wrong, resulting in us getting wiped out within 3 tiles lol. Brilliant content as usual. Thanks Kevin.

Playthroughs have to happen when I can fit them in. Running this channel isn't my job (as much as I would like it to be) and when the kids are home for the summer holidays it's impossible for me to have the time and space necessary for something that might take a full day, or even longer, to shoot. School holidays are over now, so I am hoping to step up playthroughs again.

To get three 20s for the intro I would have to convince the dice I was rolling for enemy attacks against me! This playthrough did go incredibly well though. The way the cards came out in a chain of really helpful events and circumstances was incredible.

You think too highly of my editing skills! I have a hard enough time cutting down hours of footage of me stumbling over what I’m trying to say without having to worry about fixing the dice rolls and card draws as well! The fan made Revised rules made this game so much more pleasant. It combines the Exploration and Hero phases into one big phase. You can explore/move/attack in any combination. So you can reveal a monster and immediately attack it which makes much more sense thematically than just being frozen and them getting the jump on you every time.

I bought this in a charity shop for 13 quid. I think the previous owner thought it was missing a pile of figures. You got to lift the insert out to find the rest. He he.
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring3 жыл бұрын
Ha. When you buy the game new all the miniatures are bagged in the large well in the insert, except for the dracolich in a separate well. Not sure why someone would put them under the insert. That's a great price for this game, though. Well done.

I have question about monsters activation, does a specific monster only activate on a hero's turn who has drawn them from the monster deck? Say, its immoril's turn but thorgim drew a skeleton, so the skeleton does not activate during immoril's villain phase (unless otherwise specified in the tactics).
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Жыл бұрын
Monsters activate after the hero "controlling" them activates. However, if there are multiple instances of the same type of monster on the map they will all activate whenever one activates, so the threat can escalate rapidly.
@swishsplash Жыл бұрын
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Ahh okay thank you. I have played couple of the first adventures at this point and i seemed to got this one wrong on rules, i would always active all the monsters on any hero's villain phase
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Жыл бұрын
@@swishsplash Yes, you are making it harder on yourself. On the Sequence of Play card it says "Activate each Monster and Trap YOU control, in the order you drew them." In the full rules it clarifies that if there are multiples of any one creature, then they will all activate. Also remember that each player can only have one of each monster at a time.

How many encounters do you draw on villain phase? Special rules say you draw an encounter card at the start of villain phase for the rest of the adventure after uncovering the chapel. Do you still draw another encounter if you do not explore?
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring2 жыл бұрын
This is clarified in the FAQ on the last page of the rules (and I can't remember what I did in this playthrough, I may have played it incorrectly). The encounter card is in addition to any other cards you would draw for not exploring.

Such a fantastic game!! Just a question: If I engage a Kobold Skirmisher in melee and miss, does the Kobold Skirmisher attack in melee with its Javelin?? Do these ranged monsters attack in melee (e.g. Blazing Skeleton, etc.). Kinda weird these ranged monsters attack heroes adjacent to them when they're designed to attack in range.
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Жыл бұрын
Monsters all follow their own unique AI. If a blazing skeleton is on a tile with a hero, or on a tile adjacent to a tile with a hero, it attacks all heroes on the closest hero's tile with a fireball. Otherwise, it moves one tile closer. So, in that monster's case, it is setting the whole room on fire. The kobold skirmishers do the same thing except they only target a single hero. In this case, if the hero was at range you can imagine the kobold would be throwing the javelin, but if it was on an adjacent space it would just poke the hero.

@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring2 жыл бұрын
No I didn't. The event card states the monsters you control will activate twice in your villain phase, not three times, and I did activate the skeleton twice. There is no such thing as a monster phase.
@jnishar2 жыл бұрын
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring you are right. I all ways believed, since monsters move last, that they had their own phase 😀
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring2 жыл бұрын
@@jnishar no worries. It’s easy enough to be mistaken because they call it the villain phase but it’s actually the part of the game where you draw the encounter, activate the villain and activate the monsters. It probably should have a different name for that part of the game.

The first skeleton attack actually still would had hit even using the shield card. It only pumped the character’s AC to 16 from 14, so a Nat 20 still hits.
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring2 жыл бұрын
@@riversongxoxo9010 No it wouldn't. The shield ability causes the current attack to miss, and then boosts your AC until the end of your next hero phase.

There is so much I love about these games but so much I hate. Every enemy gets a hit on you before you do. Also +9 for a kobold? You’re almost certainly going to be hit. The fact every enemy knows knows exactly where you are. Their movement is so weird. I always play with my own rules
@Ryguy07072 жыл бұрын
If the wizard didn't kill all 3 monsters would they all attack the wizard? Or do monsters only attack who is closest/who drew them
@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring2 жыл бұрын
It depends entirely on the monsters you are facing. They all have their own AI program to follow, and that tells you exactly how they attack, and which targets they prioritise. Sometimes, if there are several viable targets, the heroes get to pick, and it's built into the design that you would normally make the most beneficial selection possible.
