That's the thing: Dunkey doesn't have to be spot-on about Overwatch 2, he doesn't need to know every change that made in to the Beta because he represents the majority perspective of an outsider. To the person that does not follow every OW news the beta seems to be a missed opportunity to reintroduce the game to massive audience - it simply seems too similar, nothing stands out as shinning improvement, everything lies in details that the regular gamer doesn't care about at the moment of investing his time into the game. Of course we know there is more, but the time was now: everybody heard that OW2 is coming back from being a meme into being in an actual playable state, people came and saw the same things they remembered from the last time they saw Overwatch. The next beta will not gather as much people as this one, because casuals are not expecting anything from the game anymore... This isn't 2016 anymore, people are not excited for Overwatch, more likely just curious what Blizzard is up to - but the Blizzard team still lives in a bubble believing they can throw scraps and people will be happy. No, people moved on from an abandoned game and Blizz have to win them over.

I don't play overwatch so I can't tell the ins and outs as well as those who do. But having seen plenty of Dunkey, timthetatman, and xqc content on the game, the differences between 1 and 2 look indistinguishable. It seems more like a patch than a new game and I think that's definitely something worth criticizing in a market whose quality standards are consistently nose-diving

It literally is a patch, it's free for OW 1 users, it's forced on OW 1 users, it's a patch. Once it launces there will be no separate pvp servers for OW 1 vs OW 2, because they are the same game. I guess they were just scared that their PvE mode would get no players if it was a spin-off game, so they just called it OW 2 and packaged the PvE spin-off with a copy of the original overwatch.

1. The OW2 pvp is a free update for OW1 owners 2. There's more content, they're just not releasing it all during the 1st beta 3. As someone who's actually playing the beta and who's played OW1, I like the changes they've made, and the 2 games definitely feel different, while they're still very similar in many aspects Did they make a crazy amount of changes? No, but they don't need to reinvent the wheel, just fix what's broken. And again, the number of changes is a moot point since it's a free update for OW1 owners. Call it a big patch if you want. It's still Overwatch, but the fact that it's 5v5, that there's way less CC, way fewer shields, that the TTK is lower etc. all makes it feel different, and better IMO from what I've played so far. And that's coming from someone who played a lot when the game came out but not much in recent years.

the current PvP beta is not OW2 tho. Everyone seems to think this. This the first of atleast 3 PvP betas coming in the next year. And we havent seen how far they are with the PvE yet. Sure you could call OW2 PvP a big balance patch but its also completely free for anyone that owns OW1 already. Only the PvE is gonna cost something if you want it. and we dont have a price on that yet, even though so many people seem to think it will cost 60 dollars. Overwatch 1 didnt even cost that much, only the "collectors edition" did. I think that's the key misunderstanding that's getting a lot of people upset. They just see "Overwatch 2", ignore the "first beta" tag, and expect a completely new, finished game. I’m gonna be honest dunkey is right on Overwatch 2. If this is all the game is going to have then it is most like a 1.1 patch for Overwatch 1. Don’t get me wrong a lot of the reworks are nice, I’m talking about Orisa specifically, but after awhile it just feels like I’m playing Overwatch. I hope Overwatch 2 has some more heroes and can fix the fact that being a healer is so boring. I do hope however that the pve is pretty nice, especially how there is new physics and such, also how there is a skill tree for all heroes. I’ve had fun playing this beta, but it’s mainly from javelining people off the edge of some maps. Besides that it’s just “meh”.

The game is going to have a lot more, the entirety of the current line-up is gonna be reworked or atleast changed slightly to work with 5v5, they're not THAT stupid to do 5 reworks and call it a day, there will also be at least 4 new heroes. they announced their plans, they will release multiple Betas leading up to launch and every new beta is gonna contain more reworks and possibly more heroes, once they take all the feedback and the final game is ready then all the PvP conten in OW2 will be dropped as a free update for all OW1 players, the only thing that isn't free is the story mode. Dunkey didn't do his research before talking this time.

I love how he says changes are great for competitive but not so much for casual. Cause overwatch devs only care about the top pro players that make up 1% of their playerbase instead of the 99% of casual players who actually play games to have fun. Basically they make the game cater to pros so that it alienates the majority player base, thus the majority player base leaves and they wonder why they're losing money. Which causes them to provide less and less actual content which in turn makes them lose more players. This eventually ends in them deciding to make a new game to try and rekindle said player base only for the vicious cycle to repeat itself. That's what OW2 is turning out to be so far.

The fact that OW fans have to on every OW 2 video explain that the pvp part is free is a perfect example of Blizzard's idiotic marketing. It goes against all video game marketing definitions. When a game has a 2 next to it on the box, it's understood by everyone that this game is a new game installment that you have to pay for. OW team I guess were worried that marketing the OW PvE as a spin-off would make the game less hype. And they were scared of backlash because the original OW launch was critiqued for being a 40 dollar multiplayer-only game. BTW OW fans stop just saying "the pvp is free" you might confuse non OW players into thinking the game itself is free. Say instead "OW 2 pvp is a free patch for OW 1 players." They decided that they would launch OW PvE simultaneously with a big OW patch, but instead of hiring extra people to make sure this big patch didn't affect the stream of content, they instead decided to halt all free patches to OW 1. To then release them in a dump later and call it the OW 2.0 patch. The thing is, if they just continued patching the game at the same pace they always have, we would have more changes and content now than we will have when OW 2 releases. It's not dissimilar from that manipulative game practice of deliberately holding back finished content for a game release to add it in a future patch. The PvE should be a spin-off game with a spin off title like "Overwatch: Omnic Revolution" and just have the original game bundled with the spin-off (essentially the case now). Then they could lower the price of the pvp-only game or drop the pvp-only version from sale entirely to prevent people from accidentally buying OW for the same price of OW:OR and scamming themselves. OW calling this OW2 is just kinda insulting.

OW2 plays a lot differently than the base game and for people who play at a higher level its refreshing. But for the majority of the playerbase as much as balance is wanted, they want a fresh game. Here's the thing about the idea of armor being better in ER to mitigate damage better, the game has two layers of physical damage reduction plus the ability to use consumables/spells to increase elemental/physical damage negation. The high lethality of ER is mostly due to what options players weren't using rather than being poorly balanced (also, vigor check). If the game was balanced without buffs in mind, it would've been DS3 all over again, where you could just stack armor and health, and walk through the game effortlessly.

Im going to give my honest take, I agree with dunkey, this game is going to struggle at launch unless the PVE is very good, there isnt enough PvP changes to warrant long term investment. But im going to be hopeful here and say that if the PVE is good, and the game survives, i have a feeling OW2 can become great again. How this happens is if the dev team actually manages to change it over some time. How will they change overwatch, well my sneaking suspicion is that they are trying to create a feedback loop from PVE to PVP. You see, creating cool weird unbalanced shit, like minor hero reworks or other abilities for heroes, new guns, ETC, is incredibly easy to do within PVE, if these changes are well received, for example lets say they add an ability to mccree in PVE and it is way cooler and better than a real ability, perhaps they start to shift the PVP version more into the same role. I understand a lot of people think "You cant balance the PVP around the PVE thats retarded" but its not about balance its about motivation and a safe space to explore character options and changes. the changes will always need to be balanced differently because PVE is an entirely different system but the essence of what makes a hero fun might change because of PVE influence. So at the very least I think there will be more changes in OW2 over time than OW1, and more is better than none.

I think the review was a little harsh considering it's just a beta of the pvp (which is free) and we have seen nothing about the pve which is the main area of focus for ow2. That being said, it is still a tiny set of changes considering 3 years of nothing. Dunkey also gives a pure casual perspective, which will be different than competitive players. But the casual perspective is vital to the game's success since that's like 90% of the player base

OW2 is pretty fun but 10-15min queue times are a big turn-off for me. You approximately need to spend an -+hour on two 10 min games which feels pretty bad. if more people start magically playing and blizzard pulls a rabbit out of a hat it has potential

The queue times are only that long as a result of the distribution between roles. If you could effectively make people want to play every role, the queue times would shorten for everyone instead of just the least played role.

@@mannb1023 Everything you said is wrong. Having attack/defense vs dps has nothing to do with queue times. Literally zero impact, not relevant. 1 tank also actually made it better, because in ow 1 the queue times are massively bottlenecked by tank, and now it isn't because tank is fun now (and 1 tank is part of that, because you get to be a super powerful feeling role instead of the little bitch who gets melted in .2 seconds without your other tank and 2 supports up your ass). The problem now is that support hasn't gotten a lot of love and isn't as much fun as tank or dps. If they can tackle that the queue time problem gets massively improved.

@@StarstruckNoOne Yeah absolutely agree on this, instead of actually making roles like support enjoyable they instead just made role que a thing lol, while it could be seen as good in terms of the competitive side its also just extremely annoying to deal with long af que times. Plus with what I have seen of OW2 it seems supports haven't been changed and still seem boring to play tbh. Honestly only support I ever found somewhat fun was Lucio.

They took 2 and half years to make 2 new maps and 1 hero, by that math OW1 had to take 21 years to make the og heroes (21) + 38 years to make the og maps (19). Good to now blizzard was making OW since the cold war.

@@Adum + not to mention the new engine they had to make for PvE, the reworks and balancing they are doing to the PvP with the new 5v5 system all while several things during the development that haulted and stagnated progress. And to the original comment I know lets hate blizzard is popular but the devs have been doing very good considering the recent events the last 2.5yrs plus they are releasing PvP for free and the game will likely be a loss financially so I don’t see much corporate greed besides hoping to surge the player base so they can bring new/old investors. There are smart reasons to why they didn’t just update OW 1 if that’s your real issue too.

I’m pretty sure bliz has gone on record saying there will be 6 new heroes on launch. A number of the reworks changed certain heroes entirely as well such as orisa, doom, and bastion’s changes. It’s also a free update and has been 6 years since the first game came out so I think it’s justified, not paying money for counter strike source again I mean csgo, literally paying 0 dollars for a complete rework of a game, it’s substantial enough to call it more than an update.

@@MrHatchiFuto86 dunkey was wrong about various points. Ive been a fan of his for 9 years, but I don’t always agree with everything he says. People are being dumb and just believing him when he was blatantly wrong about multiple things. He literally talked as if this was the finished product of the game, when that was farthest from the truth. He was completely wrong about role queue, he said he “enjoyed” any changes because hes been a fan for so long but failed to list what he liked, his opinions on junk, widow, and cass were not ironic because he truthfully thought that previously and was trying to play it off a joke, he said the objectives were just about sitting there when he sat and purposefully stuck his face into the payloads to “prove his point” despite the fact that push was made specifically to avoid that (he didn’t need to be on it so hard, he was being blatantly dishonest). He said the characters were made for 5v5 when many of them DID actually translate over well, some like torb and junkrat however did not. But this is first of many beta phases and literally YESTERDAY, they confirmed to be reworking supp Lastly, he said “none of the core issues with Overwatch were removed” when various issues WERE removed/fixed with 5v5. To start: CC was vastly reduced, making the game considerably less frustrating to play, Ult charge was reduced across the board (which makes you less reliant on team coordinated ults, less players means your aren’t as punished getting 1-2 picks with an ult. Which encourages selfish play more), Tanks produce LESS ult charge for damaging them and healing them (getting rid of the boring ass strat of just sitting and soaking up damage to build your supps ult), Tanks by proxy of the cc and ult changes just generally feel more fun to play (a point he himself makes), DPS can flank more often because of their movement speed increase which encourages selfish play again, various updates to characters cooldown and ult charge to compensate for less players (which is important because he says nothing was done when various characters were actually adjusted and he just didn’t read the fucking patch notes), 2cp is removed which was legitimately a boring ass gamemode that forced you to be on objective like he has said, and finally DOUBLE SHILED is gone which is huge. The only thing he was sort of right about was the game feeling more snowbally but thats because of the faster pace of the game. Which I would argue actually makes the game feel BETTER. However, with less players and less emphasis on ults, you have just as many chances to swing momentum in your favor.

The beta is just testing the players on how would they adapt to the playstyle that is very different to the last game. If you don't believe me, just ask the players who has more knowledge and experience to the game. Oh wait, people aren't prepared to do that

I’d love to think that the first phase of the beta is simply testing the major changes which is 5v5, the new push mode, and tanks. So I’m not too bothered. I hope that they’ll start adding new heroes later on but if nothing changes by the time the game gets released then yea, I’ll agree on this take lmao. Cause OW2 is fine, but I’m not blown away to justify the death of OW1 because it’s bare bones. It still needs more, and soon.

Switching it to 5v5 is the worst decision for playes who only like to play with friends. I always play OW with my 5 friends and we never play without all of us present. Now we gotta throw one out just to play and it's gonna feel like a painful backstab.
