The problem with this movie was that they tried to show too much in one film and at times it felt like rushed. I wished they focused on the Dunki process with some background character story because the dunki really started after the interval and just went by so quickly that you didn't get to really feel their pain and difficulties

I just watched it with my parents and just to see them laughing was paisa vasool. What was heartening was that entire theatre was full of families which is so rare now! To watch a movie which is wholesome and you don’t squirm in your seats. It’s not the best but it’s smooth cinema. Laughter, tears, joy - kaafi hai. Not everything needs to be a cinematic experience. Some can just be simple like this one.

I think the main issue Dunki faces is that it's a rajkumar hirani movie. People have such high expectations for his movies that even if the movie is good, people will get upset if it doesn't reach the benchmark placed for the director. This movie was either going to be a cult hit or a disappointment, there's no in-between.

I personally do feel that Vidhu Vinod Chopra's involvement in Raju Hirani's movies does make a difference. For e.g. if you see the making of PK, Raju Hirani couldn't get the look of Aamir right, that's when Vinod Chopra stepped in and told Aamir to make his eyes wide and minimal facial movement to make him look like an Alien. Same with 3 idiots when Vidhu Vinod Chopra suggested a non-filmy choreographer for "AAL IZZ WELL" song. Same goes with the casting of Munna Bhai where Vinod Chopra asked Raju Hirani to take Sanjay Dutt after SRK rejected Munna Bhai. I still feel it is a million times better than Pathan or Jawan. Plus I also feel Aamir should have done this role.

As an immigrant who has immigrated from Afghanistan to Uk at the age of 7. Well my dad went through the hardship as an illegal immigrant and became citizens and brought me and siblings to uk legally through immigration visas. How the journey was portrayed in movies was very similar to real life however it was very even more harsher( my dad told us about the stories he had to go through). The reason am writing this is because the movie is fantastic. I couldn’t stop crying. The emotions shown something I could relate all lot. Just a beautiful story. Mind you I have been watching Bollywood from young age around 8 so much that I can even understand Hindi and speak little so it even more advantageous because words are very powerful. I was very excited because recently only action movies have been out but this movie didn’t disappoint. Love India 🇮🇳

Just came back from the theatre after watching dunki. There was not a single dry eye in the theatre. Majority population was desi immigrants who struggled and related hardcore to the plot. It’s a whole different perspective when u have lived through that or seen close friends live through those experiences

What went wrong for Dunki, according to me - 1. SRK was SRK, not the character 2. Tapsee was pretty much an NPC 3. Vicky & Vikram Kocchar acted so well, that the subpar acting of the leads was all the more visible 4. For the most part, it didn't feel like a Hirani film, maybe the fact that Gauri Khan was a co-producer may have influenced some creative choices 5. The emotional as well as comic aspects of the film were shallower than we are used to with Hirani movies 6. There was an uninhibited use of movie making clichés, lending a sort of staleness and predictability to the experience 7. There was tonal incongruence within scenes and among actors. I couldn't help but compare the funeral scene with Joy Lobo's funeral in 3 idiots, which was rendered way better back in the day 8. Hirani movies have been characterized by various subplots which got a shallow treatment this time around 9. Several philosophical standpoints in the film seemed problematic and not thought through 10. Unfortunately, despite the desperate tries of the make-up artists, SRK couldn't ACT young and Tapsee couldn't ACT old.

The movie could have better in either of 2 ways : Better character motivation would have made audiences more invested in the journey (since the dunki subject itself is not something most people connect with) Or It would have been a little longer and shown struggles of characters in london, which would have impacted audiences in a more emotional way. When tapsee comes back to india, it didn't really connected much or resonated because 30 - 45 mins ago in the movie she was in india only 😂 so she coming back feeling nostalgia had no emotional impact on audience. Good information about dunki / donkey route but not emotionally invested in the movie !! Also, killing vicky kaushal character early was a bad move, maybe killing when they 6 just about to reach england, and our 4 leads finding his former lover died when they reached london would have had better impact !!

I think for me what worked with his previous films was the fact thay we Hirani's characters overshadowe the actor playing them. We saw Munna not Sanjay, Rancho and PK not Aamir, Sanjay Dutt not Ranbir Kapoor. But here, SRK was overshadowing Hardy. Every frame reminded us that it the Star SRK playing a character.

The movie could have better in either of 2 ways : Better character motivation which would have made audiences more invested in the journey (since dunki subject itself is not something most people connect with) Or It would have been little longer and shown struggles of characters in london which would have impacted audiences in a more emotional way. When tapsee comes back to india, it didn't really connected much or resonated because 30 - 45 mins ago in the movie she was in india only 😂 so she coming back feeling nostalgia had no emotional impact on audience. Good information about dunki / donkey route but not emotionally invested movie !! Also killing vicky kaushal character early was bad move, maybe killing when they are just about to reach england and our 4 leads finding his former lover died when they reached london would have had better impact !!

*if one is comparing dunki with pathaan or jawan then you prolly should understand that this isn't an action flick but a drama and comedy genre movie which was missing from bollywood from a long time. honestly i liked the movie and the story was portrayed beautifully in a very meaningful manner which leaves an important impact. the comedy felt genuine and the cinematography was absolutely beautiful. the emotional scenes were beautifully made and hit you right at the spot and you feel it. the only thing i didn't like and was missing in this one is the character building and characters uniqueness. in a raju hirani movie characters are important and they are builed very well which are enjoyed even after years. you pick circuit, munna bhai or be it rancho, farhan, raju, virus, chatur or even kamli these characters are even remembered today cause of their uniqueness and portrayal. the vidhu vinod chopra touch was missing but if we ignore this point the movie is quite beautiful*

Jammy I somewhat thought the same while watching this movie, but let me tell you one thing - just wait for some time the movie will definitely grow on you. In fact its 4hrs since I have finished watching this movie but I am still thinking about the underlying theme, the message, the feel good essence of this movie. The same thing happened with Swades. The movie gradually grew on people and now has become a cult classic. The fact is that its a bit hard to resonate with the characters because illegal immigration or people wanting to go abroad by any possible means is not as common thing as it is in Punjab. Munnabhai MBBS, 3 idiots or PK had some easily relatable emotions and characters as the issues handled in those movies were quite universal. Swades too for some people is not a perfect film but its heart is in the right place the issues handled in it were real and I think same goes with Dunki. Its theme, its message its characters, its humour will grow on us. Remember there is a scene where all the three characters finally return back to India and see everything is developed in their homeland while they have lived a life of such misery abroad by pursuing a mob mentality to get successful. The sense of their realisation is underplayed by Raju Hirani. There are many such hidden gems in Dunki that we will later find and cherish being it a cult classic just like Swades.

There are two types of good movies 1) We instantly love. 2) We like it on first viewing, but not as much. But when we rethink it, we love it and realize it's great. Raju Hirani usually makes the first kind of movies. But Dunki is the second kind. Nonetheless, from the direction, screenplay, cinematography, music, and performance it's a classic Hindi cinema, that will stay in your mind for a long time after you are done watching. This is the best SRK movie in a lot of years that sits right beside his greats like Swades, Chak de India, My Name Is Khan and Dil Se.

DUNKI A Rajkumar Hirani film. The very first time I heard about SRK collaborating with Mr.Hirani, it made me scared. A typical Hirani film is something which people don’t consume now a days. You can barely remember when was the last time you watched a proper comedy film! Comedy films don’t work now and so does social drama. Mr. Hirani exactly deals with this genre. A Rajkumar Hirani films can only be compared with a Rajkumar Hirani Film. I have never found him to be top notch director who excels at cinematic level nor ever found him to be someone who experiments on technicality. But, I always have been amused by his storytelling approach and the topics he touches and the humor he puts into it to generate a thought process in you and which leaves a never ending impact. Every Hirani film gives a good vibe and positivity. In the era of KGF, Animal and Jawan it takes a lot of courage to make such a light, feel good movie knowing that the audience are only going to the theatres for high octane entertainers. Munna Bhai, 3 idiots or PK worked because the audiences came from the generation of Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, DDLJ, Hum Saath - Saath Hain! None of Hirani movie would have worked if they were made in current scenario. You cannot find a social drama in the last 9-10 years which did major box office. Dunki is what it was supposed to be. Following the exact same footsteps Mr. Hirani has always followed. It is as flawed as Mr. Hirani’s previous ventures at the same time as brilliant as Mr. Hirani’s previous ventures. But this time I was really amazed by how he could still put humor in such a subject which is really difficult to. I believe this was the hardest topic Mr. Hirani has worked on till date. I hope this movie finds its proper place in people’s heart which will be very difficult in today’s time. Kudos to Mr. Shah Rukh Khan and Mr. Hirani. It was such an important topic to touch on. By the way SRK was phenomenal in this movie. One of his best roles in the past decade. I left the theater with a light heart and a smile of peace. This SRK-Hirani project was such a burden on my heart as the content driven cinemas of SRK from the last decade was wasted one way or another. I am so happy that this time I need not to say to myself, ‘I wish they would have done it in certain way.’ Today, I will have a peaceful sleep. Thank Mr. Rajkumar Hirani.❤️

Jawan set the bar way too high that Dunki is just mundane compared to that. I just watched Dunki and I agree that it's not Rajkumar Hirani's best movie BUTTTTT IT'S A MUST WATCH!!❤ We need more movies like Dunki and directors like Hirani and actors like SRK, who have such a mass fan following and audience, should make more movies on such social issues. I understand your intention of giving an honest review from a cinematic perspective but sometimes that's not the only parameter that can be used to judge how impactful or not a movie can be. I loved Lal sing Chaddha though I had watched Forrest Gump 3 times. Very Indian movie with feel good emotions. Excellent music and songs. But people loved Pathan which I left watching after 15 minutes into it. My favourite movies of Shahrukh is ' kabhi Haan Kabhi Na and Swades'. Though I am yet to see this movie, I know I would love it.

After seeing Animal, and almost losing hope for Bollywood, this movie came and saved my brain. Regarding the performances of the actors, keep in mind that the skills of an actor are like a sculpture. Their quality changes every year. Most of the scenes were created in 2020/2021. The actors were in a different state of mind, and I think if the production started in 2023, the performances would be different compared to what we have seen now. I could recognize a SRK (looks and performance) after his last movies that performed bad at the box office and before the production/release of Pathaan and Jawan.

The movie could have better in either of 2 ways : Better character motivation would have made audiences more invested in the journey (since the dunki subject itself is not something most people connect with) Or It would have been a little longer and shown struggles of characters in london, which would have impacted audiences in a more emotional way. When tapsee comes back to india, it didn't really connected much or resonated because 30 - 45 mins ago in the movie she was in india only 😂 so she coming back feeling nostalgia had no emotional impact on audience. Good information about dunki / donkey route but not emotionally invested in the movie !! Also, killing vicky kaushal character early was a bad move, maybe killing when they 6 just about to reach england, and our 4 leads finding his former lover died when they reached london would have had better impact !!

I would request you to watch the movie again and rethink how you feel about this. This was a beautiful, emotional and real ride which we thoroughly enjoyed without having to see vulgarity or watch action. I would encourage to watch this movie and give the story a chance. This was a true SRK love experience - you are engulfed by his sincerity and his conviction in the story and in his love.

Dude I promise you this , you will come back with a Dunki review after a month..a year or 5 yrs or so after realizing what an amazing movie it actually is.We are our own worst enemies.We have stopped looking at things in isolation and thats why everything must be compared to everything else.I m not an NRI or anything but the movie still hit where it was meant to and its an amazing amazing experience after so long at the theatres.Eitherways, keep doing the good work.

I think it's purposely ended on little serious note compare to his previous films, as topic was not as light-hearted as it was there with those films. That's the reason it ended with that song, so maker wanted you to left theatre with that feeling rather bang like "jab life ho out of control" ...hope makes some sense Btw I watched the movie, and I think I got what you wanted to say...but your overall tone appears as if it was just an above average movie while I feel that's not the case...of someone had watched 3 idiots 6 times in a theatre, this still can be watched 3 times...and that's still a sign of a great film. Surely not the greatest, agree.
