I've had studio for several years at this point, buying in after using the free version for a couple of months, and I am so glad I upgraded. One thing I was really worried about was the licensing because you only have 2 uses and I've run into situations where that caused me trouble in the past. I found out last year after having a computer crash that they allow you to reset the licenses if you need to so you can reuse them, making this one of the best purchases I have made for my video production stuff. That being said, you mentioned a couple things in here that I've never even thought of using, like the auto captions, and I'm so happy to know about these now and how they work. I honestly never really thought about them outside of seeing them mentioned in release notes, so your video actually taught me something new about the software I've been using all this time. Thank you!
@Chalisque3 ай бұрын
Only 2 is unnecessarily stingy, and something that will make me think twice. Of interest, if you dual boot Windows and Linux, does that take 1 or 2 of your licenses? Frankly, 5 would make more sense (like e.g. Arturia), or perhaps recharging the 2 licenses after 6 months (like e.g. AAS).

Hiya! I've been using the free version for over 9 months now and have been able to practice Content Editing--as well as take on real paid work! The Studio version is incredible, no doubt about it, especially coming from an AE/Pr workflow. But I've challenged myself to push the free version as far as I can, and frankly I've yet to be stumped. Funnily enough, I finally upgraded just this month LITERALLY JUST for Camera Shake and NVIDIA-based rendering since H.264 was giving me render artifacts. (both of which still never prevented me from doing real work!) Tbh its quite good app. Only downside that is holding me back to fully switch from final cut pro to resolve is timeline scrobbling. U knoq u can hover ur mouse and u dont ever need to click to playhead to move on timeline. So for that reason, I'm currently editing my videos on fcp but if the video is long, i prefer to make an XML file then put it onto da vinci for export. For some reason i cant export videos longer than 15 hours on final cut pro woth .mov container. It exports as .mp4 tho but i need .mov so da vinci does that. But seeing auto captions and magic mask, it is insane to have em. No need for ae to rotoscope anymore. And that smart reframe. Idk how well its gonna work for my content but ima try it and see. Cos my shorts are waay to complex to edit. Cos sometimes theres 2 talking heads and i like to fit em at that moment where they talk etc in a single shot so definitely smart reframe cant do this. So im doin manually in fcp and im gettin better evry day but ima try it in resolve to see how its gonna work. Great video btw.

The one most important piece of advice I would give before buying the Studio version (which is very worth it) is, If you are looking at buying some hardware from Black Magic, wait and check because it might include a free Studio license. You could get a pocket camera, or a speed editor, and save some cash, since those come with the Studio license. If you aren't planning on getting anything from them, it's still well worth it to get Studio, any one of the features is probably a good enough justification.

I have a Lumix S5 and used to use the free version. I could edit my 10bit footage then using my M1 Mac mini. What I heard from others is that blackmagic capped some computers and laptops to 8bit editing for the free version, but not really sure though. And from what I’ve heard is that the sure thing is that even if some laptops or computers can access 10bit files in the free version, it cannot export 10bit files. I want the cloud editing so I can edit on my laptop where ever I am at what ever time but spending 450$ for just the cloud saving feature is kind of stupid, I'll also most likely use the auto subtitle and smart reframe a lot to, but circa how much time do you think you save with those features instead of just doing it manually? I need a proper reason to justify this since the software is like half my bank account at the moment.

Great Video! one of the biggest setbacks for me though is the way Resolve organizes my projects. Is there a way to save a project as its own file instead of me having to access it through the app itself? similar to adobe's workflow where I can access and save my project file within any specific project folder i want to.

Whether upgrading to the full version is a one-time purchase or an annual subscription?

One time purchase. And so far it includes upgrades to new versions

Just picked up a Canon R7 and the video format is HEVC. The free version doesn't seem to handle these files. What are you all doing Converting the files to MP4? If you are converting what are you using to convert so you don't loose quality?

depends on who you are, most people will find the free version gets them most of the way there. In the end I only really benefit from the 10bit colour managing and that's only if you want to colour. Genuinely sucha good piece of software to learn on before jumping up to more professional editing or colour programs (Film light or AVID)

Hey Dunna, I have a question. If you pay for the studio version, can you edit the same video from different computers? Say I'm on my laptop out and about, then I get home and want to hop on my Mac Mini to finish up editing that video, is that possible or would I have to start and finish on the same device? Thanks Dunna, and keep on killin it with these videos, they're super helpful.
