Durafly Autogyro G2 V2 Rd5

Follow the saga that is my ongoing struggle to manage a successful flight with this unusual Aircraft , Big thanks to so many contributors with some really solid advice , I really appreciate you taking so time to help me .
What I have learned so far is that this craft requires very gentle handling, particularly the stick inputs of the ailerons.Also it may require a bit of additional weight upfront to help it fly better. As for my experience so far I am still very unsure about why i am having little success, in this video clip the autogyro just took a nose dive for no apparent reason, my best guess is perhaps a loss of radio transmission, so i will replace this before my next attempt. As ever all advice and guidance is appreciated

Stop using the rotor drive, and instead try launching into a light headwind. Let the forward movement power the rotor as its supposed to. It looks like the rotor disc is doing something strange, so removing the drive variable might help

Gyro copters have a narrow window of operation. I would say the pre rotor could be a problem. Your rotors are to turn an RPM relative to its forward flight. I would say you are over that RPM on take off. You would need sufficient ruder authority to counter the torque you are inducing by spinning the rotor up as fast as you are. Also you probably want very small control movements as in some of the crashes you appear to be stalling the retreating rotor in a bank. Just like a fixed wing the greater you load up the wing the higher the stall speed. Your turns also need to be coordinated meaning use of rudder and “aileron” so the aircraft does not skid or slip.

I crashed mine on maiden flight and totaled. I ordered a 2nd one just to rule out the possibility of me doing something wrong (pilot error)... If I crash again, I'll quit trying... I haven't posted the crash video yet waiting on the results of try numer 2... I'll post both flights in one video... Stay tuned for that to happen soon in my channel. Wow, yet more issues. I plan to use a Spektrum AR 631 receiver and NX 8 radio and also keep this model close enough to video. not more than 200ft away from me.I should receive mine today or tomorrow and will have to wait till decent weather to maiden it.Good Luck on repairs if needed.

Hey best of luck with your maiden , my advice is very small aileron movements, & double check c of g. Would you believe that I actually tried to keep the gyro close to me but I found it very hard to turn gently and keep it close. Id love to hear how you get on 👍

Damn bro you are having such bad luck 😢did it nose dive as soon as you turned the gyro motor off? If so then sounds like it is doing something to the plane when you turn it off or it is nose heavy and the gyro motor on top is keeping it level when switched on. Can you complete a flight with that motor on top on all the time and if so does it fly normal? If so then it is defo connected to that motor being switched off on top 👍🏼

@@rcpilots1291 it seemed to fall like a brick as soon as you switched it off bro. I thought this on ya 1st or 2nd flight it seemed to do the same. Its like it loses all lift as soon as you switch off top motor 🤷‍♂️it is hard to tell from vids but that us my guess where the problem lies bud 👌🏼good luck

This is a very strange helicopter, there is no stabilizing small rotor on the tail boom (or coaxial rotor), but there is a pulling one. If this was an attempt to make an autogyro, then why do you need to spin a large rotor with a motor?

@@rcpilots1291The main thing is that you enjoy it and don't get bored. Then, when you get tired, remove the motor yourself and let the main rotor rotate freely

Hi John, I didn’t do a range check because it is one of my regular flying fields so it should be well within range. I’ll swap out the receiver and minimise aileron movement for next flight but I’m not too optimistic 🫣- of course all of my crashes maybe pilot error or maybe I’ve just got a dud plane

@@rcpilots1291A range check has nothing to do with the flying field, it tells you if the installation is correct or not. I have had a new rx not range check and had to swap it out for another

@@rcpilots1291For sure, you just never know, if all the crashes have been far away, it might explain it? Do a proper range check with what you have now, 30 paces, range check enabled, motors must be running, drive the model in a circle, or walk around it in a circle.

I'm starting to understand why so many gyro copters with people on them craah. If those issues occur on bigger gyro copters the results would be deadly. I have no idea how to fix your problems with that rig but I wish you luck. Don't crash it into yourself.

Turn off the rotor drive before taking off. Be careful of steep bank or any low g situation as taking the load off the rotor lets it slow down and loose the lift needs to carry the aircraft weight. It is not an airplane, nor a helicopter, and has its own flight characteristics. Most gyrocopter accidents come from not respecting the thing as an aircraft.
