Essential Maintenance Tips You Need to Know!
LML ----Fuel Filter location is on the passenger side right behind the wheel well liner. Replacing this requires manual priming through a fuel bulb and bleed setup and uses a screw on filter style with attached sensor.
L5P ----Fuel Filter is located on the drive side right in front of the fuel tank. The process for replacing this is much easier and convenient than the LML. The filter for the L5P is a cartridge style and the priming is done from the inside of the truck using the push button start on 2020 and newer.
Diesel Exhaust Fluid LML 2011 thru 2016, the fill was located under the hood on the passenger side firewall.
Diesel Exhaust Fluid L5P 2017 thru Current, the DEF fill is located right near the Fuel Cap on the Driver side thus increasing the possibility of cross contamination.

--------Just a FYI for those who keep asking.......the ALLISON Transmission 10L100 2020+ LP5 ---DOES NOT HAVE A SPIN ON TRANS FILTER. Dont fall for the dealer scam, you must do a full pan drop.

Glad you found the channel! You will be very happy with the Duramax and that truck will give you many years of enjoyment. I have had a few so far and I can say I will never go back to a gasser! They require very little upkeep and will run forever.....The only issue I am seeing is the surface rust under the truck is showing up much earlier than before; more than likely the salty Florida weather and constant trips to the boat ramp are not good. The other issue so far with the new duramax' is the brake pads....they are very loud and there is a TB from GM but they will only do the fix if you mention an issue with the pads so keep that in mind.

I wish this would have been specific to Ram. Just got our first one, and the videos trying to show these basic things are terrible in quality! Greatly appreciate the audio and video quality of showing these things! Thanks!

Thanks! Hopefully it can still provide some guidance. I actually find the Cummins/ram easier to work on and navigate. GM seems to complicate things.

I would also add differential fluid to that list. And if your diesel is new/low mileage, I would get into a habit of full transmission oil changes. If you wait too long, it will become dependent on the grit of the old fluid in order to not slip

Thats a good point, while not considered basic, it is a must do on these if you are actually using them for what it's designed for. Many forget the transmission is fully serviceable and not a closed unit like some other competitors . ... fortunately the Duramax mall parking lot crawlers don't need to worry about this 🤣🤣🤣

Good question, replace them both. If one is going bad the other one is probably not far behind. Just my opinion but if one is bad it will not turn over at all...

And don't be an idiot like me and rely on your Driver's Information Center telling you it's time to change your fuel filter ,,, after owning my first diesel for 4yrs and only driving 2500 miles a yr , pressure built-up and pushed the plastic water sensor out of the filter ( more like a crazy cross threaded it) and with that pressure the head unit wouldn't hold the prime.. now I change my filter every 6 mth

Good Tip! The DIC is not accurate and doesn't appear to take into consideration heavy usage from my experience. For those who do haul ...3000 miles with no load is not the same as 3000 miles loaded down. Same on the oil change.
