Born in 1989 to my mom who was 17 at the time and in love with duran duran. Needless to say I Pretty much grew up on this band. Mom met Simon a few times and loved telling the stories. This song brings a smile and a tear at the same time. I can picture it as if it was yesterday, My roommate at the time blaring that song while cooking and the silly dance she was doing. It was so odd, yet hilarious and I was doubled over with laughter. We moved apart, married, started our own families but remained friends. Sadly she passed away from diabetes complications only a few years after .😔 It is so amazing how music can almost literally transport you back to a specific time or place, even if the lyrics don't match the situation...just magic. No not really , I grew up in a single parent household . I had Maggie take one of my favourite things away . Although that aside my life’s dream of being a coal miner was stolen away from me ( chosen due to my love of pasties? ) But seriously why would we have thought that without knowing what was coming

The early 80s weren't so good. I mostly remember people whinging about 'Fatcher' (some still do) and the endless miners' strike. There seemed to be an IRA bomb going off somewhere every other day as well. Mid to late 80s were better socially I think, although the music went downhill after Stock Aitken and Waterman took over around 1986.

OMG I Would watch MTV all day and love it. I'd see Rio maybe 10 times a day along with lot's of Michael Jackson, the police and various other artists. MTV used to be awesome with just videos and the host's. I want to go back to the early 80's.

These young men were 20, 21, and 22 years old when they recorded this. Their first 2 albums, Duran Duran and Rio, came out in 1981 and 1982. They were all born in 1960, '61, and '62. Damn good musicians and songwriters!

@@stephaniespragg5586 In 1981 he would've been 22 until late October when he turned 23. He is the oldest. So for Rio he would've just turned 23, and for their first album in 1981 he was 22. It's amazing how good they were for so young. That was my point.
