Giannis, Ben Simmons and Rudy Gobert are all the same type of person. They all 3 have big contracts(well ben simmons will soon)an all 3 are "known" for either winning DPOY or in the running every year, they all 3 cant shoot and guess what since they all cant shoot look at all of their respective teams in the playoffs....down 3-2 and on the brink of elimination. I just pray to god Zion Williamson has a great off season trainer(or spends money on a renowned shooting coach or trainer) so he can develop his shooting skills because I dont want him to end up like them. These guys had MANY years EVERY OFFSEASON to develop their offensive games and they didnt. I dont expect Rudy Gobert to miraculously come out next season shooting 3s but i EXPECT him to develop some type of post game, dependable hook shot, mid range shot or fade, back to the basket tim duncan type of moves. I expected Bem Simmons to be able to shoot a consistent mid range jumper no problem. I expect the same from Giannis from 3pt land. Thats how you better your game. For all 3 players(other than Zion) they have been in the league for 5+ years so theres NO EXCUSE for their development. And this is why teams like these lose and never win a championship but always do a good job of getting close. YOU CAN GET AWAY WITH BEING A ONE WAY OFFENSIVE PLAYER IN THE NBA BUT YOU CANT GET AWAY IN THE NBA BEING A ONE WAY DEFENSIVE PLAYER.
@mosescharles3 жыл бұрын
Basically what i was trying to say is offensive ONLY players can get by in the NBA and in these playoffs without playing defense BUT defensive oriented players will get destroyed...we are seeing that with Patrick Beverly, Jrue Holiday, Giannis, Ben Simmons and even Rudy Gobert was getting manhandled by Zubac at one point last game. The long urban legend narrative that defense wins championships is dead. That was for the 90s david stern era. Since then newer rules disallowed defenders to simply.....DEFEND because the NBA wanted more higher scoring games to improve viewership/profitability etc. So it really dont pay to play defense if you yourself have offense. Now if you cant simply shoot a wide open mid range you are not gonna make it in the nba long.

I just learned about this now, but I have the game recorded and I totally agree with what you've said. I was listening to the Thinking Basketball podcast the other day and the host, Ben Taylor, was talking about something that's been happening in the last few playoffs. I noticed it as well: guys are getting played out of lineups because playoff teams are super-precise now about attacking mismatches. Budenholzer's scheme is effective, but he doesn't seem to adjust well during the course of a series, and, given what I've seen out of them the past few years (Taylor's talked about this as well, btw), I think we're probably seeing a team that overachieves in the regular season and comes back to earth in the playoffs, since play in a weaker conference, defense throughout the league is looser in the regular season, and, in the playoffs, however, teams have more reps and are more familiar with the Bucks' scheme. Bballbreakdown and others have taken a look at Giannis's shooting motion as well, and it seems clear someone on the Bucks' staff messed it up. It's getting better, but he may have permanently lost his chance to become a good 3-point shooter. Anyways, I don't blame Giannis for any of this. Still love him and Middleton, but something needs to change in Milwaukee.

Correct me if I'm wrong (because I'm not a hooper, and a relatively new fan of the game), but I learned something from this series, there are two parts of basketball. The skills/fundamentals, and the athleticism. Having both at a generational level is a big bonus (Jordan & Lebron), but at the end of the day, skills and fundamentals are more important than athleticism.
@FirashAdryan3 жыл бұрын
@Jean-Patrice Paluku of course there is a base level of athleticism that is needed to even be on an NBA roster, I agree with you on that. The point I’m making is that, someone is better off having a base level athleticism but very polished skill and IQ, ala Luka Doncic, versus having supreme athletic gifts, but average skill/IQ, like Dennis Smith Jr (although Luka’s athleticism is pretty underrated, for example, his deceleration).

Even if he loses in 7, the fact that he got this game will be enough for me, because the only thing that i cared about was for KD to at least go down swinging. We always expect Lebron to rise and beat better teams without his stars when they are injured, and if he wanted the same respect as Lebron he had to demonstrate that he can at least give you the best performance that he can have, then the rest is up to his teammates and the other team. Because of his career after OKC, people (me included) looked at him a little bit different, but if he wins this series and the championship without major help from Kyrie and Harden he will be the best player in the world. He has nothing to lose,but a lot to gain in my opinion legacy wise.

There has to be an alternative universe where Giannis doesn’t shoot jumpers/fadeaways, doesn’t handle the ball at the top of the key and KD doesn’t one man team the bucks. Guess we will never know

S/O to Kevin Durant and Jeff Green but damn, Middleton once again showing the Bucks organization why he is NOT a second option. They need a true second star.

KD-esque and Lebron-esque performance, with all-time role players behind you doing their best 2011 Mavs performance and looking offensive stars with no injuries or mileage in them. Giannis won't be held accountable yet again though, and despite having to do just one of the many things he didn't want to, to win up 20 vs this Nets team.

I mean weren't people calling for his head last year after the Heat series? I mean the only difference between this year and last year's team was how good of a point guard Holiday is over Bledsoe and Middleton showed up for multiple game instead of just one

The people who thought that Kd couldn't have one great game to win against a good team are stupid. If people said something like he could have a great game but still lose the series if he doesn't have harden or kyrie , then I could understand. He can have bad games after that because he would be the main focus and that has happened with Kd and its fine but saying he couldn't have a great game because he didn't have a super team is stupid.

I kept saying he needed to go for 50, but nah KD does better by getting 49pt triple double 🤯🤯🤯. Giannis although he's playing good, almost great, is infuriating because he's not taking charge like he should be whether on defensive assignments or taking advantage of offensive mismatches. Giannis and KD are my favorite players so this series is both awesome and crappy at the same time lol. I also wanted the Bucks to get CP for his leadership because I don't Giannis learned how to lead yet, and also filled out a facilitator role.
@joejames17943 жыл бұрын
That was KD’s greatest playoff performance just generational stuff. On the flip side I’m very disappointed in Giannis I didn’t want to admit it because as a 2X MVP!! it didn’t add up but Giannis really might be the guy that can’t be a 1 on a title team. I know Middleton can’t be the Kobe to your Shaq but Giannis himself has an identity crisis as a player. He should be playing like a modern day but he tries to be a wing. The guy’s IQ was fully exposed in that 4th quarter the man was SHOOK. The less said about Bud the better the guy is a terrorist.
@dusk61593 жыл бұрын
Not even IQ, already by skills, or drive and dawg to begin with (because taking the matchups or attacking just requires that).

I don't think it's about Giannis guarding KD but more so about the fact that he didn't see any traps, blitzes and the doubles he did see were incredibly soft not hard double teams where he was forced to immediately get rid of the ball. With no Kyrie and 5% Harden those are the types of coverages KD needs to see. Either you make him a 50 point scorer or a 15 Assist playmaker. You can't make him both as seen in this game. However Kudos to KD for giving an All Time Performance.
@michaelpaullang44013 жыл бұрын
Tbh this is the first tome kd showed he can lead a team like ever that’s sad he’s always had a good situation compared to Lebron who had to do this basically his whole career and if James and kyrie play and they win the finals I’m still not Impressed it’s still a super team, this was a special night and all time performance by kd but in the hindsight of things this won’t move the needle
