Hugh Neutron is a fantastic dad through and through. He's a loving father who provides for his family in the best way that he can... However, with that being said, even the greatest of dads make mistakes. Nobody is perfect and that's okay... With that being said, the most important thing isn't the fact that the mistake happened, it's that we can learn from the mistake and do better moving forward. That's why today, on our nostalgic walk down memory lane, we're going to check out an episode of Jimmy Neutron where Hugh made a big mistake...
Thank you for watching!

One time my dad tried to stop me from saving a neighbor's cat who got tangled in the ivy-ridden fence between my house and the neighbor's house, just because "those neighbors are bad people". I wasn't having any of that. I didn't care how mean those people are, or how misunderstood they might be. I wasn't about to let a cat suffer if I could help it. I helped the cat get free. The neighbors were grateful. As far as I'm aware the cat turned out fine after a few days.

there is one detail about the episode that can easily be overlooked the fact that Hugh let Mr. Wheezer borrow the lawn lopper in the first place meaning that the lawn fued, isn't normal between them letting someone borrow an expensive personal item, must indicate a strong friendship
@kinghyperheart1571
@kinghyperheart1571 Ай бұрын
Exactly. While there are no exact hard and fast rules on being a good neighbor, usually friendly neighbors that know each other well enough ask to borrow each other's stuff or to help them with things frequently. That's what my Mom and our neighbors do. So for Hugh to be nice enough to lend others his precious lawn care equipment only to then forget who he sent it to and act quite hostile just sounds out of character for Hugh. He's forgetful, sure, and sometimes he feels a bit spiteful after being duped, but for him to act with hostility towards his friends and neighbors is most unbecoming. So much of this could've been avoided if Hugh didn't act too smug about his lawn and gave Mr. Wheezer a chance to explain himself, and Mr. Wheezer could've taken a breath, let Hugh see that he didn't have it, and try to help Hugh retrace his steps on where it might've gone rather than start acting in hostility to Hugh being a bit douche-y and being so protective of his garage. Finally, while I understand that Hugh loves his ducks, he should've seen what Mr. Wheezer did with his duck was clearly an accident, but he saw it as an act of hostility, while Mr. Wheezer should've said I'm sorry, and try to defuse it, Hugh shouldn't have smashed Mr. Wheezer's lawn cat in retaliation just to get even. "Eye for an eye makes the world go blind" seems to apply here. Also, might not have happened if Sheen had delivered the message, but it is what it is. While I don't like plots that are fueled entirely by stupid decisions, in a way it was kinda necessary to get a pretty memorable episode with a good message "Be kind and respectful to your neighbors, don't force your conflicts onto your kids, and messengers deliver your messages on time or else lack of healthy communication can cause problems."

HE says he saw Nick's dad with a lawn lopper though! ...but Nick's dad just purchased his own is all. As someone who works in child care at a community college and is currently obtaining my certificate, I am incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to work with children. I have a deep love for kids and find them to be truly amazing and adorable beings. However, I also understand the responsibility that comes with working in this field. I have witnessed firsthand how parents, despite their best intentions, can make mistakes. But in this situation, I wholeheartedly agree that the children's friendship should not be affected by their parents' feud. Children are innocent and should not be caught in the middle of adult conflicts. It is our duty as caregivers to provide a safe and nurturing environment for them, regardless of any external issues. Every child deserves to have a meaningful and joyful friendship, and it is our job to support and encourage that.

I remember there was an episode of Rugrats that dealt with the same situation where Tommy’s parents and Phil and Lil’s parents had a fight over a game of charades. Starting with Stu being frustrated that he and Howard didn’t win and insulting Howard’s lack of intelligence which set Howard off. Then boiling down to both Didi and Betty siding with their husbands of who was right or wrong in the fight that resulted both the Pickles family and Deville family not speaking to each other. Of course Tommy thought of mending the bounds himself by giving a present that was his mom’s favorite earrings to Chuckie to give to Phil and Lil and they respond the same by giving away their dad’s wrist watch. But it came up as a confusion where the parents assumed that the other stole their belonging and gotten to a bigger fight that Tommy and his friends decide to run away so they can be friends forever if their parents weren’t going to be. When the parents notice their kids have gone missing they band together to look for their children before they got hurt or lost. After they found them they put aside the fued and became friends again. Now that was a bit more severe that your parents argument has gotten so worse that the kids decide to leave their families so they can still be friends. I would hate for that to happen to me.

2 points I would like to bring up regarding this episode and the situation. 1. While the fact that Hugh cut Jimmy off from his lab was wrong, it happened in response to Jimmy telling his father that he was going to use the lab to disobey his house rules. Getting the lab locked away from him was the least of what could be done in response to such a blatant disregard for a father's words and rules even if said words and rules are unjustified. I can't fault Hugh for that even if you have valid points in how wrong it really was in context. 2. I never, even as a kid, liked how they never showed or even referenced any of the Neutrons checking their garage for the item in question. It makes Hugh looks like he has less of a hill to stand on than he actually does. They could have had him check his garage first, not see it, then ask Carl's dad about it. Carl's dad mentions that he gave it back and Hugh responses saying he just checked his garage and it isn't there. At this point things can go one of two ways, either Carl's dad lets Hugh check the garage since there is clearly something wrong if Hugh can't find it, or he adamantly refuses and we end up in a similar place to what this episode does. For the sake of what this episode is doing, lets say Carl's dad doesn't let him in the garage and we go from there... During the game scene, Carl mentions that he checked the Wheezer garage and the item wasn't there. The two meet up with Sheen there, for the same reason as this episode, and they use Gaddard to find the item. Sheen notices where it is and brings up that he originally was in the area to give a message to Jimmy's Dad and he just forgot. We can get Jimmy and Carl both angry at Sheen, Jimmy and Carl go to get the item (Sam could be against them taking it if the episode needs runtime) and it ends with the boys collectively returning it. That would have been better IMHO.

That just makes Hugh's reaction even worse. Like, if I lived in the 1800's and one of the rules of my household was "no colored folk allowed", I'd be morally and ethically justified in going against that openly, while them doubling down on it in response would make them even worse. A parent should be called out for their bs because they're flesh and blood and cartilage and will be in the ground one day like all the rest of us.

I know it's for the episode not being like a literal movie, but the amount of anger, almost pointed insults make me think that these arguments while not always shown, must happen a lot. As said in the description: he’s an absolutely wonderful father when this fight is a highlight of things done wrong by him. Hugh Neutron is a lovable goofball that despite wacky things like this, it’s clear in the end he loves his family and friends. *is casually going to ignore him dumping the runoff from Jimmy’s lab into the sea*

Fun little story I live in a very rural area and our last crooked mayor Tried to pass an ordinance that if your grass was over a certain length she'd have her son come onto your property and cut it without permission and charge people whatever price he deemed fit and keep in mind people here have 100+ acre properties so my dad showed up at the meeting and told her due to environmental laws we could all stop cutting our grass entirely and there's nothing she could do about it

I was a very shy kid and didn't live with my dad and I had one friend who lived next door. My dad got into a fight with the neighbor and I was never allowed to play with them again but was also treated poorly for never playing with friends. My mom who I lived with lived really really far away. I don't have kids but I don't even like getting my friends involved in a argument between me and another friend.

I know this would be a lot of work but at some point, I would love a deep dive into the entire Jimmy Neutron series or at least season 1 similar to what you did with season 1 of Spongebob. and maybe the other seasons of both shows! Same with Fairly Odd Parents, Rugrats, Powerpuff Girls, among others. Obviously no rush cause again, I know that's a lot of work but just throwing it out there! 😊

Just goes to show you that parents can be even more childish than their kids. Difference being that even shown they were wrong and being childish, the parents won't admit it but when it's the other way around, they'll force their kids to admit they were at fault. Or at least the ones I knew.

Its just because of some people's twisted way of seeing things, it doesn't just happen between families, it can also happen between friendships and stuff. I remember in school having classmates that didn't like one another, and they would usually force me to choose between hanging out between them, when they had so many things in common such as liking Pokemon and stuff, but for some reason they just couldn't get along, and I never really understood it because I tried to be likeable to everybody, but I guess that is just how some people are, where they don't sit down to settle their differences, but instead blindly judge and dislike each other, without even giving a chance to understand each other better, under some misguided sense of self and what they know about the world, because I can understand getting off feelings from a stranger, maybe your gut might be telling you that someone is not to be trusted or something, but it should be people's responsibilities to see past that, since everyone has something to offer, and every single person has both capacities to do good or evil, and unless given the chance you won't get to know someone's true nature, and some of the people that I thought were idiots or rude under first impression, after getting to know some of them I was surprised how good I could get along with them, despite not initially liking them.

It definitely bugged me as a kid but more for the "well Jimmy and Carl didn't do nothin' why are they being punished?" but as an adult when I've rewatched the episode it's more of "Why didn't Hugh just go check his garage (maybe it's implied in the dialogue, but if that's the case I didn't pick up on it) and see" and yea, chalk it up to we need a conflict for the story to happen but it's still a bizarre overreaction on the fathers parts to have of completely cutting off each others families from their lives. I will say though Carls moms reaction to her husbands allergy is bizarre as well, but we don't really have the interaction before that as context to go off (did either of the Wheezer parents question the ingredients? Shouldn't Judy have known all of the allergies of the members of the Wheezer family if she was going to make food as a peace offering? etc)

I think the logic behind a family feud is that members of the other family will side with that family and might influence the loyalty your own family members. Of course, Jimmy was already friends with Carl and making Jimmy choose between the two basically made him go "Hey Dad, I am going to destroy your precious lawn by crab-grassing it to see Carl again." A family feud only wors if those inter-family ties don't exist or are prevented/destroyed.

One thing I find interesting is that there may be a possibility of their neighborhood having a Home Owners Assosiation. That would be the only legitimate reason this fight would actually happen. At least, that's my theory. Sure, the characters never stated that they had an HOA, but this kind of reaction seems more like it'd happen under stressful rulings like having grass cut a specific way to avoid getting marked down by the HOA.

Do I think Hugh was wrong yes. I mean technically he should have remembered all this time he dropped off his lawn mower to Sam the candy bar owner. But I did find it absolutely unacceptable how he literally went through all this crazy lengths to try and prevent his son and his friend from seeing each other. All this because he forgot. I mean yeah he did make that mistake but also the only mistake I could point out is Sheen. He literally was supposed to deliver the message now I know there's a saying don't shoot the messenger. But the truth is he literally forgot to give the message. Withholding all that information that he was supposed to deliver in order to get paid. Then when the whole feud happens he doesn't like come forward until like the very end until he sings about what Sam responded to. I do like in the song how when everybody just looks at you in absolute disappointment and he's feeling very embarrassed. Obviously that was pretty well done right there. I think what was really low of Sheen was when he requested $4 bucks after doing the song. Especially considering everybody realized he caused the feud.

There is an episode of Rugrats that is similar to this one where kids get involved in feuds and arguments between adults in two different families The episode of Rugrats is in season 2 of Rugrats, The season 2 episode, Family Feud where Stu, Tommy's dad and Howard, Phil and Lil's dad begin to bicker, insult and argue with each other, However, the kids get involved when Betty and Didi start arguing and Betty takes Phil and Lil home due to the feud between Tommy's Mom and Dad and Phil and Lil's mom and Dad. Can you make a video about that episode too?

Feuds really do reach an all new level of stupid when you drag ANYONE into your fights. This applies to school fights, home fights, neighbor fights or the toxic online fights. They get ridiculously out of hand that when it (hopefully) comes to an end- very often the people that started it are looked upon as distinctly stupid. I’ve had the neighbor issue happen twice in my life- one of which I discovered by accident when I saw my neighbor when getting off work. For context- we had a rather great relationship! I would visit and talk to her and we’d just vibe really well about nature and life. I genuinely thought that we had a good friendship- I was wrong. That day at work I saw her and, happily, I was like “hi ms. B!!” Like I always did…. But she then gave me that almost cartoon level rich girl look where you can see the “did that just talk to me?” And snubbed me just as hard. I was so taken aback and confused and brought it up to my mom- and found the root of the problem. Apparently the two of them had a discourse at work and apparently they thought burning the entire bridge down was the way to go. I never regained that apparent friendship as she died a few years later due to physical complications. To this day I look back at that with a tragic sense of bitterness because of how petty it had all been. Online- who hasn’t had THOSE? Words don’t carry tone and people’s own psyche add what they perceive of the world- and more often than not, it leads to unnecessary fighters that we all know can lead to a KZbin drama video. Honestly- people need to get over their pride, even if I’m the right on occasion. Humbling yourself honestly comes back as good more often than not. Reap what you sow, so to speak. The truth of the matter will always come up and solve itself. Acting in anger or pride can only make you the fool in the end.

Yeah when I found out that Sam had the lawn mower the whole time. Realizing that Mr Weezer was innocent all along of the accusation. That started the whole entire feud I mean yeah in the end Hugh felt very but also I think the real culprit of this whole fued was sheen all along. He literally had a message to bring and he brought it too late. Then suddenly he asked for four bucks yeah that's pretty low. But not going to lie this was technically Hughes fault
