I’ve always been curious about any lore in regards to Stu and Drew’s mother. Think you can do a deep dive video on it?
@misspinkpunkykat37 минут бұрын
Even as a youngest child, I thought Stu was in the wrong for telling Drew is toy was the better one. If they were older, I would have expected Drew to respond with "I'm glad you like your toy" but Drew can't really be any older than 3 here. But yes, I thought Drew was putting down Stu's inventions and denying it. He could have just told Stu, "Well no, I'm not a fan of EVERY invention but I did like X ones and Angelica loves the X you made for her" I also believe Stu is autistic. I thought Angelica was a "rainbow baby", the term for the child born after a miscarriage or still birth.

this video lacks a lot of empathy for teachers. We put a lot of expectation on teachers to make up the difference for students psychologically without giving them the training for that. That's just not their job. Ideally, the schools would hire more people who can help, ideally the state would invest in mental health, and ideally parents would be filling their needs at home too. It doesn't mean that because all adults failed, that its their teacher alone that should take the blame. I do thiunk, however, its common for parents to put the blame on teachers and for students to internalize our devaluing of teachers and our martyring teachers.

As someone with bpd 2 (the 2 means not full blown mania and harder and longer depressive episodes), I would love to see your deep dive on Stu and him possibly having this undiagnosed disorder (since I've never really seen him having a full blown manic episode). Also, people with these disorders are usually the most creative ones, so that would also back up your theory. I know you would do it respectfully and handle it with care, so if you're up for it, would love to see it. Appreciate you and all the videos you make for us. And I hope you're doing well on your own mental health journey ❤️

I think Charlotte manipulated Drew as well to marry him because she wanted someone she could control much like Jonathan. She had connections somewhere and got Drew the job. Angelica wasn’t necessarily planned hence her still working after delivering. Definitely an after thought sad to say.

Definitely a bad parent. But not in an abusive sort of way, more like oblivious to the fact that his child is aggressive and rarely disciplines her.
@cinnamonsugarcourtney6073Сағат бұрын
Drew is a terrible dad, he just folds like a house of cards at the instant that Angelica asks for or says anything. I think that Drew and Charlotte have more of a contractual marriage. They're both businesspeople and work is their first priority, Charlotte strikes me as a woman who wrote a great prenup so that Drew would be the one to do most of the childrearing, maybe a prenup that stipulates that whoever earns the most in the relationship has executive control over the finances and the other has control of the general household. Charlotte is the disciplinarian, Drew is the permissive

I want to play Drew's paranoia is ahead of its time With the way the world is progressing and what the internet is doing to people if children even have the tiniest responsibility or chore everybody's going to start screaming parentification abuse and neglect at the top of their lungs. Well also being told if they don't give their children any responsibilities they're cuddling them and are going to raise intitle Bratz. If you try to influence their diet at all you're going to be accused of fostering eating disorders and if you let them eat whatever they want you're going to be accused of being neglectful and not caring about your child's health. There's a story going around on Reddit about a father who sang that his wife stress is due to her overworking herself trying to be the picture perfect version of her mother and trying to make sure everything is done to scientific accuracy like the exact number of minutes on screen time in the exact amount of time spent outdoors as if that's healthy and his advice is to stop trying so hard and to just calm down and enjoy life and everybody's shiting on him for being a lazy father who isn't engaged and is trying to avoid responsibility. And all the crappy double standards are 10 times stronger for fathers. They're either accused of being neglectful or controlling depending on whether or not they actually want to parent themselves or if they want to try and balance a partner if harsher parenting. Their stories about moms who care about their children's specific sleep count rather than about any particular moment so when the dad comes home the children have to be put to sleep and if he dares to try and engage with them he's being accused of being terrible for ruining the sleep schedule forever, but if he didn't get involved he'd be accused of being a deadbeat for only being there once they're in bed regardless of whether that's work-related or not. Older siblings who have two working parents and therefore sometimes have to babysit these days now so hippie fits and claim that their siblings aren't their responsibility. nobody has any family loyalty anymore and it's being praised as a good thing and glorified because anybody who does actually prey on family loyalty and ask family to be supportive and helpful get accused of being entitled and taking advantage of people. Drew's nightmare is actually predicting the state of the future where if a child spends the situation or other people who witnessed something disciplining a child that they don't approve of can actually turn it into a huge lawsuit and ruin the adult life.

Well there was an implied 'no dessert for a week' punishment in the Wonderful Life episode and he does put his foot down when she doesn't want to take a nap in the episode where she thought she made Lil disappear so it is kinda inconsistent even on a broader scale.

Tbh I never noticed Drew at all. Every parent had a separate personality on the show, but Drew always seemed the least effective. At least Charlotte said once that she purposefully wants to raise Angelica to be competitive in a male-dominated world. Drew just always seemed like his parenting style was "as long as she shuts up so I can work."
@prodigal_rebel_20622 сағат бұрын
It's not surprising how Drew (the older brother) became an awful father while Stu grew up to be a loving one despite his mistakes. No wonder Angelica became a huge bully at the age of three just like her dad.

Don't have a timestamp and ain't rewinding, but the part about either Drew having something like undiagnosed bipolar definitely sounds plausible since the 50s and 60s were definitely part of a time where men having any form of mental illness and getting it diagnosed would have been social murder. So, having an adult character with an undiagnosed mental disorder seems like a reasonable enough thing for a show from the 90s, even if I can't think of any other cartoons that would dare touch that back then.

I can confirm this with my own family / uncles especially. They were amazing uncles and ultimately very good people from the heart, but they had serious issues that were never addressed and it lead to them being on a path of abuse. I'm towing the line myself and being pretty poor at the moment, realistically; There is no therapist of psychiatrist that cares or will prescribe anything that helps unless you're bringing them in a ton of money. It's really depressing and also really humbling to realize that my uncles all went through the same thing at one point or another in their lives. I don't look down on them anymore, I respect them and really wish they were still here. Alcohol is a serious problem that needs to be addressed just as much as Fentanyl.

i think the best parents in Rugrats among the Pickles and their friends are Charlotte(when she is paying attention to Angelica, Angelica can't get away with anything). Charles (Yes he is a bit overbearing and overprotective of Chuckie, but considering he is a Widower, and effectively trying to be both a mother and father figure, him being so over protective of Chuckie makes so much sense.) And Stu (Yes he's usually busy with his inventions, but considering his inventions are meant to be children's toys and he always gives the prototype, if it works, to Tommy, that to me shows he is a good father)

None of the Pickles are really the best parents (though I do give Charlotte credit for her moments). If anything the best parents in the whole franchise are Randy and Lucy Carmichael, but either the writers or a majority of the fandom give them enough (if any) credit!

How strong is Stu to be able to kick that cash register across the crib? And considering that he was barefoot that must’ve hurt like hell. Also, in the episode where Angelica sues her parents one indicator you can tell it’s a dream is that if you look closely at Angelica’s TV which I don’t think she even has in her room, but her tv is shaped like a potato. Or at least that’s what I thought it was supposed to be

I wouldn't say Drew is a bad parent. He also is not good one either. Given his wife barely is involved due to work he acts as a single parent mostly which can be very stressful. He has tried to disapline her, talk things over with her, and even just give in all of which have no effect on her and with so little help from his wife he is on his own to try and keep Angelica in line. I honestly feel for him. if anything society is the one messed up here allowing a KID to get a lawyer to sue her parents AND let her defend herself AND use her DOLLS as "witnesses" like XD how is that allowed

Ehhhh, you can't place all the blame on one parent. She put her job before her daughter many times in the show. They're both flawed parents, but they aren't bad people. Also Angelica is a force to be reckoned with and it seems like her sassy attitude comes from her mother! Which can be a very bad, and a very good thing. I'm putting way too much thought into fictional rugrats characters now though lol
