Flew too far and lost orientation, tried to correct but kept flying the wrong direction and had to bring it down. Found it a 1/4 mile away using the transmitter beeping sound to locate the drone, walk right to it thru trees just off by 6 feet. Another time I crashed into the shallow end of the pool after hitting a branch minus the canopy, and then left the transmitter overnight and it rained, fan dried and the bugs 3 still flies with no issue. Only con, it's light with the stock battery and can be a challenge on high gust winds. With fpv all in 1 camera attached on top, it can turn an amatuer to a intermediate flyer after a few flights. Best drone to start off with and will grow with your skill levels. One of the best feature, no need a timer or keep the drone close for low battery indication off the drone, the transmitter will let you know and also beeps if flying too far. Great value for what it can offer! Goodbye to brushed drones!

+Sam Gar, actually it'd be really better if this one came w/ altitude hold -- that's a huge + for beginners. after some months - there is Bugs 2 B2W/B2C w/ GPS - it costs more, but it's an awesome for beginners - it does really return to home nicely! i piloted one and it returned from H=122m,D=400m after signal was lost. 5.8G FPV was lost way before that, ofc :(

I've actually seen several reviews of this one before, so I knew what to expect. I give this thing 2 thumbs up. For the price? Forget about the Syma X8! This thing beats the Syma X8 hands down. BTW, that mount is sort of a clone of the Syma X8C camera mount. I know because that's how I mount cams to my X8C. The Bugs 3 has plenty of power and you CAN fly it in a wind, unlike the Syma X8, which even in high rate will drift backwards in any kind wind (say 10mph). The beeping TX on LVC is a GREAT idea, and more quad manufacturers of these toy grade quads should implement that feature. This is probably my new "intermediate recommendation quad", for those who are past the Syma X5C stage and ready to take on some brushless speed and power. None of the JJRC X1 problem .. and seems to be all around better than the X1 (imho). I'm sure it has enough power to carry a small 2 axis gimbal, but the video from the simple mount is very good .. no jello, but did get some small shaking. If you're just hovering, the video should be absolutely fine. The "kinda" proprietary battery doesn't bother me, as I'm sure I can find plenty of 2S batteries out there which will fit it and put on an XT30 plug .. done! If you're looking for a good intermediate quad .. this one's for you! Cheers!

Hey, here's a flash for you. You know that beeping of the TX when you were at LVC? Well, apparently it also tracks RSSI info, so that as you approach range limit (low RSSI), you will get TX beeping to tell you to come back. Just learned about this on SeBy DocKy YT channel/review. Now that's a COOL feature as well!

I had the same problem with the screws, they are made from cheese grade metal and they bind up while driving them into a virgin hole and the driver will tear up the head of the fastener...you'll want the best (fitting) screwdriver in your shop and to maintain constant, hard down pressure while "tapping" the hole the first time. My right hand stick was the one that got chewy...I was lucky to get it out, cut the head and reinstall with a flat head driver. They are NOT "to long" as stated in the video...the threading is just very grippy and the head can't handle the torque that builds up as you screw in to virgin material. Screws are easier the second time in...you'll notice that when putting on the prop guards. If you end up with a stick like this guy did, that is not fully tight and fastened all the way down, then using a drop of CA glue (superglue) roll works just dandy for you. BTW, the LEDs off don't "save power" enough for it to be even mentioned lol ...they draw such a low amount of current and capacity that "maybe" you'll get another 15 seconds of fight with them off, lol....so it's negligible.

andrea4809 There is nothing bad to say about the Bugs 3. Just an amazing quad for the money, cost aside its still a great quad. Lends itself incredibly well to modifications. Really blurs the line between toy and hobby grade quadcopters. This is the quad you want if you are going from toy grade to race quad, its also the quad you want as a second flyer. Buy a cheap knock off go pro and throw the legs back on and in 5 min you have a nice camera bird as well. Cant go wrong with this one!! For Around $220 you could by the drone, a 3s battery, a nice 5.8 fpv cam, goggles, a knock off go pro and you would have everything covered. 1 quad to rule them all so to speak.

This is a 5-Star rated quad even with it's few shortcomings. The major thing that I think was missed is in not using a 2200mah battery. I changed my battery system over by using a Zippy Compact 2200mah and purchasing a larger Hexfly charger from Amazon. I went on eBay and purchased a pair of wired female xt30 to male xt60 connectors. The batteries are a tight squeeze in the quad's battery compartment but I made easier by removing the battery label. I thought about placing in spacers where the holder attaches to the quad but this mode seems to work OK. This makes this quad a screamer and will give you around 23-26 minutes of flight time w/o camera and 18-20 min with. It's one heck of a fun screaming machine with power to spare. I just wish it had a GPS or I knew how to add one.

For anyone considering purchasing a Bugs 3 you should know that there are a couple negatives that need to be considered. The first and biggest one is the red button motor start and stop which honestly I can’t figure out why it has this feature since it doesn’t have altitude hold. The problem is if it ends up upside down in dirt, while you are holding the red button waiting for the motors to cut the props are pump dirt right into the motors until they cut, not to mention it also tears up the props and motors if its down in long grass. Also the bugs 3 is really heavy which puts a lot of strain on the motors and causes them to get pretty hot, especially with a 3S battery which is a lot more fun then that wimpy 2S pack it comes with. Lastly, some people, me included are having trouble with their Bugs 3 glitching and doing some bizarre things like suddenly flipping and flying erratically for no apparent reason. But by far the red button motor cut is the biggest drawback to the Bugs 3…..

One thing I saw that helped prevent motor burnout was to run the motors at the lowest speed possible for 1 battery charge worth. It helps break in the bushings on the motors. Some people will go so far as to dis-assemble the quad and run the motors in a glass of distilled water. Either way, it helps extend the life of the motors.
@basetau32008 жыл бұрын
Costa Rica Flyer I do run the motors without propellers time to time. Before running I use air duster to clean any small substances. It may increase the motor life as none of my brushed motors burn out before 20 flights. I never had to change any of my brushless one.

The Bugs 3 is a pretty impressive quad and reasonable in price. I was wondering if you were going to work on adding good gain antennas to the quad and transmitter for FPV flying? Quadcopter 101 had a test on a quad using a fisheye lens on a camera that was mounted down on a quad. The hole in the bottom of this quad might be for that using that type of camera FPV and with software that gave 360 degree FOV. The review was real impressive and I am sure he was flying the quad with a WiFi setup which would have limited range but the view from the camera using the software was real impressive. Thanks for your review.

Today after a 8 minutes fly I opened the cover and found burning smells. It was extremely hot. No ventilation on this quadcopter so cheap and independent ESC will burn out after few flights. I guess that is the reason they kept the flight time between 8 to 10 minutes and no spare batteries in the market. It is an awasome flyer though.
@DustinDunnill8 жыл бұрын
Maybe you just got a defect. It happens alot with brushless esc's.. some have used even higher voltage 3s batteries and it seems fine from what I hear. I'd replace the ESC and get back up in the air.

@basetau32007 жыл бұрын
Syma and Mjx are different products. Syma is more entry level and Mjx is one step up. I did not say Mjx bug is bad at all, eventually with that price range it is best at the moment. Only issue with Mjx is it is neither for the beginners nor for the advance pilot. It is kind of in between who wants to get some skills before moving to racing quad. Even though it has speed it does not have 'Acro' mode unlike xk x251 with the same price range and if it falls from the sky it will break as it is not that strong, hard plastic. For surely it is a good quad-copter over all.
@josephpuchel64978 жыл бұрын
Nice video I'm interested in the BUG as a beginner into drone flying. I know you talked about battery box cover and other items on copter having added weight. My thought on that would be to drill small holes within the battery cover once removed and legs to lighten it up but not go to wild making hole that it threatens strength.

I do have one problem that I wonder if you have encountered with the Bugs 3 and connecting it to the transmitter. I have started it and flown it a few times but sometimes when I turn on the TX while pressing down on red button and then plugging battery into the drone, the front lights begin to flash like normal except they don't stop flashing and turn solid like they should. I try over and over to restart it, change batteries, and still those front white lights keep flashing! Eventually it will finally pair up properly and I can fly. Do you have any thoughts on why this is doing this flashing? I value your expertise with the Bugs 3 and wonder if this is a common fix.

Great review Dustin, my Bugs arrived today in the Red version...I will be doing an unboxing review soon...but unlike Maui chicago is 8 degrees right now so no flying just yet. Frequent flyer in his review flew his bugs with a XT60 connector and 3s battery....which was a little heavy I think for this quad....I am also going to fly it 3s but I just bought a xt30 battery that is not to heavy.....Happy flying

Hey man. Good to hear from you. Glad to hear it can take 3s. Just hope it lasts with the higher voltage :)

Hola sabes de alguna mochila o bolsa para poder transportar este dron? Gracias !!

Another good review Dustin, and it's look like you've found a winner with this Quad. A lot of the guys in my Quad group have ordered this or about to order it. I think I'm waiting for version 2 with GPS in about six months. I have the Bayangtoys X16 GPS quad and it's great for the price, the Bugs 3 with GPS could be better.

Hi, IK've been testing this drone for a couple of hours and I am pretty satisfied, but I can not find a position for the cam that keeps the drone legs out of the field of view. How did you mount it? Thanks

Can the ESCs handle a low C 3S lipo? What's the transmitter range and can it fly in mode 4? Thanks

Hey, nice review!! Loved it. Have you tried attaching any gimbals to Bugs3? Or know of any compatible ones? I'm thinking of getting this for my sister who does a lot of video footage for travels and she likes to have more stable videos.
@DustinDunnill6 жыл бұрын
If your thinking of gimbal stabilized video. I’d opt for a drone more built for it. This one would really suffer in flight time and longevity lifting a cam plus heavy stabilized gimbal 😁👍

Hey ! I was wondering if you had any suggestions about how I might use the drone with GoPro Hero 5 ? The Mount is too small, and I'm looking for solutions ! Thanks :)

Nice review as usual Dustin. We are looking for an entry-level sporty quad (not crazy fast racer) after coming up to speed on piloting skills on Hubsan H107, Ethos QX130, and even Hubsan H501SS. Would this be a good choice for a sporty outside flyer? I do wish it had built-in FPV with display on transmitter screen (no phone required) so if you have a competitor with those features, please recommend. Thanks again for doing these.

Nice video! I love flying the Bugs 3, best price for a great quadcopter. Even with the camera mounted it still has some awesome power. I will soon get some bigger batteries (2200mAh) to extend the airtime.

Would you recommend to mount the ThiEye t5 edge? Or is this cam to heavy with its 70 g?

Great video. I have a question - How many hours would the controller last with the 4 AAA batteries? (contemplating buying rechargeable AAA's actually)

Does anyone know if you would be able to mount a GoPro hero 7 on this drone?

Yes you can but would need to customize bracket a bit

@@DustinDunnill what about a hero 5
@DustinDunnill5 жыл бұрын
Yes, same thing the sizes are a little different so you may need to alternate mount.

man that's awesome so with the way it breaks down and the way the board and parts are setup you could essentially upgrade it or improve it
@DustinDunnill8 жыл бұрын
Yes, This one may be work modding. Battery, FPV etc. Might do more with this one :)

Great quade I rcrved mine three weeks ago still havnt reached the max range yet what are your thought on attana upgrade am going to put my fpv camera on all in all pretty sweet
@DustinDunnill8 жыл бұрын
+Jeremiah Carlson I'll hold off on a range upgrade until I test the max range. It may be good enough :). FPV would be awesome on this since it handles so well.

hi, i am... i would say an intermediate in the world of quads/drones, I have an F181 and a little eachine E10c, I want to get the bugs 3 but please forgive my ignorance, (I suppose you can't learn without asking) but what is brushless and what does it mean, in the sense of what is the difference between brushless and non-brushlass (so to speak) I've headed that brushless motors are more powerful and things like that.. but yeh that's it, thanks.
@miamiaa65398 жыл бұрын
great video dustin thanks.. comparing to the cheerson quad you just reviewed it couple of days ago and its price tag I think this is way more fun..!also I would take the landing gear off and add a fpv camera ...oh..! well you already said it man...i was just watching and you already mentioned it... I did really like this quad will definitely order one for summer...
