I love how Freese made it a different style. It works. What a freaking marvel...

At this point I think Freese can play anything. Oh how many times have I tried to imitate his style, and failed.

I saw in one interview with Josh, he was asked about this particular gig/song. He said that Sting told him to have a go at it... Guess he did not hold back.... Awesome!

Every video of Sting so far has had the opening comment about one of my favourite drummers. The man is a drum God.

With zero interest in dissing one of my favorite bands (and drummer) ever, I am enjoying this far more than any reunion video I have seen (along with being at the reunion show front row). You can tell Sting is obviously enjoying this so much. That guitar solo...and the vibe Dr. Freese brings...it's a rocking, mint performance. Hate to admit it, but found the reunion performances just (wince) boring. I love this.

Joe Toe glad you’re enjoying it joe!! This was the blizzard show of last March. I snuck in my Sony 4K camera. What luck! Also have full audio of this.

Thanks! Ha; nice work with the camera. I love it! I'm admittedly a huge Freese fan but very much Copeland (and Colaiuta) fans...this is the most vibey Sting/Police performance I have seen since the 80s video of the Synchronicity tour. Thank you for sharing!

Freese posted a clip of this on his Instagram where he said he knew it's over the top... But that Sting had asked him to.
@joetoe92076 жыл бұрын
Kallbrand That is so interesting! I wonder why he said that (either than -for me, anyway), his request led to a really cool ‘product.’ I think for Freese to copy Stewart would’ve been as good...for this. I love it! (And I sure love Stewart, as I’m sure Freese does...).

I'm sure Sting gets bored with his own stuff... So he gets a kick-ass drummer and asks him to go for it. Vinnie used to over-play 7 days... But I have a feeling Sting runs a tight shift. If you overplay the wrong songs or places... He'll let you know.

Looks like i'm the only one here wondering how badly these songs need Copeland's magic touch in order to sound the way they should.
@AlexMPruteanu2 жыл бұрын
Nope. I agree. Josh Freese sounds like a bull in a China shop. Doesn't fit this tune at all. Sting is usually super careful about picking his drummers; he must've been high when he picked Freese. Totally out of sync w/this tune, at least. Sounds like a mess. And people here singing his praises....I wonder if they've ever seen or heard Vinnie Colaiuta play. For starters.

@@AlexMPruteanu It's weird cause I usually like Josh's playing, but here I just hated it

@@AlexMPruteanu Actually, I think Freese was a good choice for those early Police tunes. Vinny's playing, IMO, has always been a bit too pristine for that territory.
@Monsterdrumma Жыл бұрын
@@AlexMPruteanu I am assuming Sting told him to approach these his way then heard it and okayed it or told him to rock it out more as Vinnie plays is more reserved then Stu sometimes which again Sting is probably instructing them otherwise he would be pissed saying wtf are you doing back there as Josh changed them quite a bit especially walking on the moon with the rocking out part that isn’t normally in the song. I happen to think he sounds great like himself but in the Stewart vain.

Bring back Josh or Vinnie. Sorry but the new guy is not good enough for playing Police numbers.
