Dutch mayonaise has les fat and more salt. That's why we call it frietsaus. You should try a frietje oorlog: fries with mayo, peanut sauce and chopped onions.

Bitterballen are the perfect snack with Dutch beer.my husband called it fried goulash which is pretty close.

Bitterballen was so good. We had never tried it before, so we didn't know what to expect. It is the perfect bar snack.

Frietsaus has less fat than mayonaise, it can vary from about 40% to about 70% fat and may contain small amounts of other flavorings such as mustard and some spices such as onionpowder and white pepper. I personally prefer 80% to 90% fat mayonaise though.

The fries at Vleminckx are "Vlaams" which means Flemish (part of Belgium) so that's Belgian food. Not Dutch at all. The big difference (sacrilege) is that the Dutch add lots of sugar to their mayonnaise!

Great video,i love it.....for a next visit u can go to the HEMA or almost every fresh bakery for Saucijzenbroodje or a Kaasbroodje ...those are Puff Pastry snacks with Minced Meat and Kaasbroodje is Puff pastry with cheese ,,i think u love them specialy when they are warm ..Greetings from Holland

Don't just go to Amsterdam. There are much more beatiful places, where there's actually Dutch culture. Amsterdam is an international hub. Go see Groningen, Maastricht, 's Hertogenbosch, Utrecht, Haarlem, Delft, Alkmaar or Gouda.

I love all the fried goodie’s, fries war with sateh sauce and onions,frikandel, kroket, but when it comes to a meal I prefer some Surinamese or Indonesian rijsttafel. There’s a “world of food” hall in Amsterdam South East with all the good stuff. Of course the home made appeltaart is unbeatable.

fritesause can not be called Mayonnaise here in holland , Mayonnaise is a protected recepie and has to have a curtain amound of egg in it , its that simple , enything less is called by a generic term , like frietsaus or whatever they wanna call it saus , go for the real deal and it will taste so much better , greetings from amsterdam
