I'm learning Dutch for my best friend, but I'm using Duo Lingo, which is quite monotone, so while I learn pronunciations of individual words and how to put them in a sentence, it doesn't give you an idea of tones/inflections in casual conversation. My mother grew up learning Dutch from her parents (who emigrated from Amsterdam). When I was very young, and I would do something naughty at home, my mother would come into the room, see what I'd done and say something that sounded like "putt per dicky". Now I know what she was saying! Finally! 60 years later! 😃 Thank you Kim!

Depends on where you are: in The Hague or Rotterdam these swaerwords are often accompanied by some real bad diseases and other swearwords. Not nice, not at all ...unless you live in those cities...

Once, one of my Dutch colleagues arrived at work with a black eye and other facial injuries. In an argument over a road incident, he called his adversary a klootzak. His adversary responded by punching him in the face. Be careful with that one!

Curiously 'ass' is an animal closely related to the donkey. In American they say 'ass' so as not to say the real word which is 'arse'. Nowadays this has mainly been forgotten but the word 'ass' is historically much closer to 'ezel' than it might appear. Really 'ass' is a bit like saying 'Oh, sugar' instead of 'Oh, shit!' except that calling someone 'an ass' was already an insult well before it became associated with people's rear ends. American English can sometimes be a lot more prudish about referring to certain parts of the body and of bodily functions. The word 'restroom' is a good example; I've known Americans who even find the already euphemistic word 'bathroom' far too brazen.

Hey Kim? Let me tell you how the days of the week in Japanese work! 😃 Well... Have you heard of that anime called Sailor Moon? If so it’ll blow your mind because... The girls’ names despite having “Donald Duck syndrome” meaning; “They may look like sailors but you never see them working on a ship!” 😝😂 Anyway! They’re respective planets and elements all match very well! XD Sunday, “Day of the sun ; “Zondag” Monday; “Day of the moon”/“Maandag”. Ok! Now the ones that differ from Dutch! ; Tuesday, Mars, the day of fire. Wednesday, Mercury, the day of water, Tuesday, Jupiter, the day of wood, Friday, Venus, the day of gold and Saturday, Saturn, the day of dirt.

Het is wel zo dat "schavuit" ook op een positieve, bijna tedere, manier gebruikt kan worden, je kunt bv tegen een klein jongetje zeggen: Wat ben je toch een (kleine) schavuit! Dan is dat jongetje een beetje ondeugend maar op een lieve manier. Die uitdrukking die je noemt daarentegen is altijd negatief

Kak en schijt als uitroep ken ik niet, ik vind dit altijd een van de leuke dingen van het Nederlands, een van de enige talen waarin dit niet voorkomt. Ik ben bang dat de grenzen aan het vervagen zijn zodat ook Nederlanders dit gaan nadoen.

Hmm, goede vraag! "Deugniet" is wel een stuk liever en is genderneutraal. Een "deugniet" is als je een beetje stout en ondeugend bent en een "krengetje" is wel een beetje strenger denk ik. En dank je wel :)

Kreng ken ik eigenlijk naast scheldwoord alleen als kadaver, dood dier. We hadden vroeger op het dorp en omgeving de "krengenwagen" dat was de vrachtwagen die dode dieren ophaalde bij de boerderijen. Dus het is volgens mij breder dan dood paard, maar misschien is dat alleen in dialecten zo?

It means dickhead (Glans penis) in this context, so pretty vulgar as well! Glans means acorn in Latin too btw, the ancient Romans and Greeks already used this metaphor.
