I would’ve did a light wet sand with 3000 grit & then polished it out for sections with deep scratches

I detailed at a porche,bmw, and vw dealership in florida. You should pick up the following and give it a try! *wool bonnet *coarse foam polishing pad *medium foam polishing pad *Fine foam polishing pad *backer pad with hook-and-loop attachment Research the corresponding wax/cutting compound/polish that should be used for each pad (dont mix up the pads and products). Also airblast the pads with air gun after each panel. If you get a paint matched touch up pen for deep deep scratches and do the stage pads and correct products with the pads you cant tell it was a touch up. Love the channel!

Gonna have to wet send the fenders with 2500 sandpaper to get the orange peel and the dirt marks to the best of what it can be and then go with with the compound with medium cutting pad and then finish with a polishing pad . I believe 3m gots a swirl removal and polish compound the 2 mixed in 1

Just my little tip on the buffing prosses. I work at a car dealership and do rubbing/polishing and coating on a lot of cars we have in. I would recommend using less compound in the prosess, then you really working the compound in the paint. If you use to much compound, you end up just spinning the compound around and get less heat to the panels. Keep ut the good work!
@JamesJones-er3wc4 жыл бұрын
Cut with a high speed buffer the heat that the high speed buffer and good compounds remove scratches but a scratch never goes away it's give the illusion to your eyes it's gone. Black is the hardest color to buff to look good and as soon as you wash it the swirls and scratches could come back. Also wet sand small sections at a time like about 3inch at a time no long sanding and use a wet sand block.

Loving you videos my friend. Also like the fact that you admit you aren't a pro at everything and are always looking to improve and learn. Your work is very nice from what I can see.
@houstonbrown95294 жыл бұрын
Wet sanding before compound would take out a ton of scratches. The polish it up and give it a good wax.

I hope you keep this one. At least for a while anyways. Being a budget build and seeing how good it’s turning out is cool. Not to mention 04-07 are the best WRX/STI body styles hands down. Looking forward to the finish!

I had a obsidian black pearl Subaru legacy. I loved the black color but man does it suck. Black shows every imperfection. Main reason I went with the classic blue WRX instead of a black one. Keep up the great videos.
@sopi24 жыл бұрын
It is looking much better already. You should hit the plastic trim parts near the mirrors, at the rear windows and on the hood with a heat gun, gently. It should revive the faded look.

2000 grit wet sand for the dirt in the hood then a more abrasive pad to buff and polish. Will look like a sheet of glass
@jonathanraymond10144 жыл бұрын
Props to you devin for learning as you go. If there is one piece of advise to make it less frustrating and quicker for you is to use a more aggressive cutting compound.

Make sure you are using microfiber cutting pads, can’t tell from the video if you are or not. Mf cutting pad and M105 or M110 for compound, then 205 with foam
@xsliick4 жыл бұрын
So many hours spent on detailing but the after is so satisfying.
@jaimpatel24 жыл бұрын
You may be able to reduce the number of passes you do, by wet sanding prior to compound with 2k or 1k. Or even using a microfiber pad to make it more abrasive. But ask around first!
@sti_ukr62934 жыл бұрын
Devin you can try to use 2000 da pad and sand down panel than 3000 and buff. Thats what I doing

Even with that little bit of work. The STI paint is LOOKING 👌🏻😎.

@henlolneh4 жыл бұрын
with the deeper scratches and just heavily swirled paint, m105 + standard cutting pad probably isnt enough cut. esp if you're doing 20 passes on a panel with it. at that point youre inefficiently burning through clear coat. probably want to look for a stronger compound + pad setup. you're just a little bit limited with the materials that you have in my opinion. m105 and 205 with orange pads and finishing pads are enough to maintain a car once its been fully corrected but for the shape that the paint is in, i honestly dont think just the 105 + 205 combo will be enough.
@jasoncheatham73024 жыл бұрын
If you would turn the speed all the way up on the buffer and do 2 passes with a lot of pressure 2 medium pressure and 2 light pressure your process will go a lot quicker shouldn’t take but a hour to compound the whole thing 45 min to polish it cleanse the paint then do ceramic coating if that’s what your doing
@jasoncheatham73024 жыл бұрын
But would defiantly recommend turning the speed on the buffer on the highest setting and try using a more abrasive pad to cut with it should take a bunch of passes less is more
@jasoncheatham73024 жыл бұрын
And 25 passes ya that’s insane man those scratches will come out if you add more pressure and speed it up on high for real you will be amazed with how much faster and how many more scratches will Come out those on that rear driver door should all come out if your doing it right

Looks like you are using the Griots Microfiber finishing pad for the correction? (I get why the links are different) But I am confused on Finishing Pad vs the Griots Correcting pad? Seems like by naming convention they would be opposite as utilized. Appreciate it.

I am not an expert on this, but why are you guys doing so many pases? Instead or using a more aggressive compound/pad? Unless you are doing Compound>finishing>sealant>wax?
@spikado36134 жыл бұрын
Little advice: when you use compound you need to do 3 steps. Compound .heavy polishing and light polish. When you skip the middel step you wil get holo's. The mf pad in black here in the netherlands that is to finish so not ffor cutting the paint with compound.maybe look fot mf cutting pad.about the orange peal first mesure the paint thickness before you wetsand true the clearcoat

I was taught 30 days for naturally cured clear before any wax/ceramic coating can be applied
@theovandaele32204 жыл бұрын
That's correct. I've done a lot of research for my own car, and the chemist who actually helped develop the base coat/clear coat paint on cars comes up with the same time frame. You can buff/polish after 24 hours, but should leave the paint to harden for 30 days min. before any wax or coating. This does not apply to new cars - there the paint is baked at much higher temperatures, so you can coat it on day 1.
