@3:30 It looks like you reset the erosion cycle count when you changed the world preset.

4:55 So, I do GIS for a living, basically I use computer programs to make maps using gathered from the real world. One of the things we do is simulate rivers and watersheds by dumping water over a terrain model (basically an image where every pixel represents altitude instead of a color) among many other kinds of simulations. One thing you'll note is that all of these operations generally take quite a lot of CPU/GPU power to process because of the sheer number of calculations that the computer is doing. Depending on the level of detail, the size of the area and the simulation being run, it can also take quite some time. I don't know how DF runs its simulations specifically, but the TLDR is that I have no trouble believing that changing the world generation, especially with regards to river simulation, will cause the CPU to work hard.

advanced world gen never really appealed to me, but this series is proving it's because I never knew its potential would actually suit my worlds more

Great informative video as always. Man, Giant Hippos. As if Regularly Sized Hippos weren't already a death sentence (at least irl)

Increasing rains does do rejects, which you can avoid if you decrease "desired X region" parameters so you can modify all those parameters as long as you decrease / remove the desired amounts.

I did lot of experiments with rivers trying to find major rivers. I found raising the minimum rain just to 5 gives you a great mix of major rivers and lakes but I'll try some of the methods you suggested.

Dang! That waterfall @9:00 is insane! That would be so cool to build a fort around! Thanks so much for posting the save, I think I'll download and mess around with it a bit when I get home.

It'd be cool to build a suspended hotel / meeting area where the dwarfs can both get happy thoughts from all-natural mist and be safe from land-bound attackers.

Can we get one on mesh size and how that works? It seems like a pretty advanced concept

Thank you for doing this series. It helps a lot. How are you selecting an embark, but then canceling it out and making your way back to the world map?

That's exactly what I've been doing. Then reloading and embarking again.

You never showed the slopes on that last embark! You said it wasn't a canyon but I've always disliked the canyons generated, since they always only have water at the bottom, whereas natural canyons always have some spans of flat ground unless during a flood. It would be cool if that embark had steep walls out farther from the bank

If you increase the drainage that might fix your issue.

I'll give it a try! Though I'm on mac and so still on my v47 install, I expect that doesn't affect world gen though?@@BlindiRL

It would not. Although I gotta ask why you are still on 47. I don't use mac but I have seen lots of reports of people playing on v50+ on mac. @@CptPierce9

I think you can use an easy wrapper if you have an Apple Silicon mac? Otherwise maybe compiling my own pack. It's not doable with a boxed solution. Without major gameplay feature difference I don't find it worth the effort to transfer, my forts are small and run fine@@BlindiRL Edit: If anyone knows of a relatively easy way to get v50+ working on an intel mac, I'm all ears

Would love to see how to make minerals more scarce with the complex map making. Love making now savage worlds with more volcanoes. But the default ore frequency really makes it so easy to get up to steel quickly, then defending is far too simple
