Wonderful episode once again! A few ideas… you could add a jeweller of some kind to the upper district, I’m sure they dig up some fancy stuff out of that mountain as well As far as the special resources, maybe some kind of magic stone or something of the sort that enables like enchantment of weapons or armor or even stone and jewels Another idea inspired by the beer storage in the pantry. Since volcanoes provide extremely fertile ground for crops, perhaps there should be farmsteads outside the mountain itself with big crop fields (it seems silly to import food with such insanely fertile ground under their nose) and barley fields and some such (in the case of good ol’ dwarven beer) As far as the interiors are concerned it’s a super cool idea and makes so much sense to coat the interiors with extravagant colours to contrast the dreary exteriors. For the water heating, maybe you could add like a boiler room for some added detail. Also the steam cannons sound awesome and unique

There are quite a few suggestions for a Jeweler, perhaps episode 4 I will focus on making a mansion for the master Jeweler. I do plan on having farms in the surrounding plains at some point, just got to take it one thing at a time

I'm always so amazed with your builds! It could be really cool to have an area with perhaps a more fantasy, sinister, dark history or at least very hidden element to it. Perhaps an old (or on going) way of processing and researching these different metals etc., an entity of some sort, that they are researching or is helping them with either gaining a special kind of knowledge or producing weapons or magic trinkets. Perhaps one of the dwarfs that master some type of craft, has a hidden way of producing his products, - which makes that one dwarf top of the game (profession wise). Again, awesome that you are back at it. I love how you bring nature into the decor! Excited to see more from you 😀

I think with the plumbing that it'd be great to do boiler rooms in the houses. Maybe have a large boiler building in the lower class housing that supplies a block instead of personal boiler rooms for them and then have piping running along the tunnel roofs of those underground streets where the lower class houses are.

I think lore wise you should take some inspiration from real world history with smelting. For some reason I’ve always associated the dwarves with a Bronze Age vibe. I guess because they’re supposed to be so ancient and often have that Mesopotamian curly beard style? Maybe the artwork reminds me of Mesopotamia? Actually, I just googled “Mesopotamian dwarves” and realized it’s also the armour styles. Those thick scaled chest plates made of horizontal strips with leather, those weird helmets that look like Hershey kisses. And the architecture as well. Broad simple construction. Giant carved statues of bulls and weird mythological creatures. And a lack of windows. So perhaps then the story of your dwarves could go something like this: The dwarves would know how to smelt iron, but they found that making copper into bronze was too simple. Instead of combining copper and tin for traditional bronze they found a way to combine beryllium or aluminum with copper. Emeralds are also commonly found alongside beryllium. And so is aluminum! In fact the ancient Egyptians used to mine Beryl, which contains aluminum! Beryl is found in pegmatite and granite rocks. And here is a really cool part. Beryl is a giant green crystal! To extract beryllium from it they would crush it up and heat it, then put it in giant pools of water where the beryllium would leach out and color the water green-blue. Afterwards they would dry it out and add in aluminum to produce metallic beryllium Aluminum is more abundant and a light metal, and copper is extremely abundant. They could extract a bit of aluminum from the same water using magic. It is uneconomical IRL though. So this whole dwarven operation could import tons of copper, and a bit of supplementary aluminum, and focus their efforts on mining those big green beryl crystals and the emeralds present nearby. When forged with copper the beryllium produces beryllium bronze, an incredibly strong and durable metal that is even used in the aerospace industry. Look into it! And then aluminum when forged with copper produces aluminum bronze, which is basically immune from corrosion and especially to water damage. They are perfect for coating a boat hull in since they’re still very light but also no algae or barnacles can stick to it. They are excellent for roofs as well for the same purpose. It also appears very similar to gold when a small amount of other metals are added. Nordic gold is a perfect example of this. So Dwarven gold could be similarly prized! It’s also a way of explaining why the dwarves would have so much “gold” without actually mining any gold at this site. This focus on those two alloys of copper could give these dwarves a niche that would appear super advanced for any medieval setting. It’s also very thematic, and the realism aspect can be supplemented with magic. Plus the imagery of massive pools of green water in the caves being magically tampered with to improve the metallurgy process sounds so cool. When mining beryllium crystals they can sometimes come to the surface but also often are inside of the rock, look that up, it’s very fantasy like. You could have people throw the crystals onto conveyor belts, big crushing mechanisms turn it into dust, have the dust go through a giant oven, then drop that glowing hot green dust into giant pools where it would send off a lot of steam as it lands. That same steam could be captured at the end with big wheels overhead to drive the whole process. You could have a whole piping network set up underground to carry that green beryllium crystal water through the caves. have some pipes coming in from hot springs within the same caves, and another pipe slowly draining the pool of leeched beryllium. Those pipes could transport the resulting sludge upward where it could be put into big metal buckets moved underneath the pipe. Those could have aluminum added and then heated up again to make metallic beryllium, then heated again to add in copper and create bronze. They could then pour the metal mixture into molds and work with it as normal. Also all the resulting steam coming from This whole process might make their fortress appear like a massive volcanic caldera with smoke rising from it.

@@Dukonred1 Thank you! glad to hear you liked the idea! Emeralds are the most valuable type of Beryl, but the mineral does come in all sorts of other colors as well so you could have all sorts of colors, and in theory you could have them produce metal in all varieties of color too

I love the trees so much! It's not something you see with dwarves a lot and that's super refreshing. I'm struck with the idea of dwarves with a literal family tree, planted by the founding member and maintained through the generations. I don't know how realistic it is, but maybe the dwarves live here not for material resources but because it's on top of a hot spring. They use superheated water to fuel their steam technology and maybe the require the mineral rich water to survive.

Considering ore deposits, maybe the biggest deposit is not copper but some sort of dwarven metal (like from Skyrim) that melts into the material they use in their buildings (massive smelter required). I don't think it would be their main source of wealth but they use it everywhere so it makes sense to have large ore deposits of this solid metal.

I like the idea of steam cannons. Maybe the one inside the walls shoot buckshot type ammunition. Would be quite useful for shooting soldiers going along the top of the walls without destroying the wall itself in the process. Maybe the cannons on top would be something akin to those 19th century mortars. The short and wide ones like the dictator or monster mortar for example (yes, those are real names.) They could effective bombard things outside of the fortress. Also the interior is wonderful!

I'm leaning more towards flamethrower cannons along the walls now and back to trebuchetes along the top ramparts for long range. But yes, I agree, close range defense should not be designed to destroy the fortifications
@Spudwow
@Spudwow Ай бұрын
Great video as always, and you've come swimmingly into the video production. Couple ideas, A jeweller, just seems naturally fitting for dwarves with their mining operation Copper piping into further away rooms - not too sure how this would look in practical sense but the thought would be cool Copper piping that vents the volcano of the heat, for the denizens within the mountain Machine worker shop Market/Open auction area, probably within the cave system? Depending on if the world is a high-fantasy or a low-fantasy setting, I think the latter would be complimented by trebuchets and the former more for steam cannons. I believe to actually see the trebuchet/cannon idea would give the audience a better idea on what would look better atop the walls, a trebuchet is more realistic and I think would suit the entire world overall also be easier to build within Minecraft, steam powered cannons may edge the line of low-fantasy versus high-fantasy and the idea may not translate well to Minecraft (though this is coming from a mid builder and not a highly talented builder like yourself), although if high fantasy is what the server world is going for then full hog it for the steam cannons, at that point even some steam powered airships would look cool littering the skies of the city for the long trips to far off cities for trade and such. Thinking an airship dock could look good on the left of the main gate area, believe there is a big, currently, empty spot there 17:53 for a reference And a question - How is the city, going to get their food production? Will it be expansive fields on the outskirts of the city in the rolling hills or could there may be inspiration drawn from the likes of Rings of Power with the dwarves, and their sunlight tunnels that using a network of basically magnifying glasses scattered around the city to give the crops their sun/
@Dukonred1
@Dukonred1 Ай бұрын
wow, there is a lot to digest here, for sure there will be lots of plumbing around the citadel, planning on a good bit of exposed piping in the underground tunnels. I plan for a great hall later on (Moria style) where the main markets would be, which will double as a middle class residential district. After some thought, I'm moving more towards the idea of flamethrower cannon ports along the foundations, and trebuchets along the top. I do plan on food production, but that is far in the future if ever I get the main citadel finished. I'm between underground farms and perhaps using the fertile plains surrounding as food production.

I'm thinking the main ore should have something to do with the former volcanic activity here. Maybe that volcano was magic-infused, and ore they extract from it has magic-channeling capacities. The Dwarves could be mining the old lava neck in the ancient volcanic chimneys, with maybe the deepest tunnels going all the way to the magmatic chamber deep beneath the volcanic cone. Also that could give the waters from the geysers healing properties, and the city could be a thermal destination for pilgrims and travellers. I like the steam cannons. That feels Dwemmer-like, without pushing the SF side too far. But what do you mean exactly by that? Are those cannons that fire burning steam at the ennemies, or cannons that use steam power to shoot projectiles? It's cool either way (although the first kind might be limited in range).
@Dukonred1
@Dukonred1 Ай бұрын
My idea for the steam cannons would be solid projectiles fired by a pressure build up of steam. As for the geyser healing properties, that is an interesting idea. There would likely be all sorts of unique minerals, so makes sense

Hey Dukon! I'm super hyped about this series!! It is looking amazing so far. The specialty of the citadel could simply be Vallorium, to give the city it's name and fit seamlessly into the lore. A cool idea could be that when the dwarves were mining into the volcano, they initially hit copper, and lots of it, and then when they went deeper they hit Vallorium. Maybe even deeper than the Vallorium their greed led them to something bad, and the mines got filled in. It opens the door for some cool story building!

@@Dukonred1 I can think of a couple of ideas. There is the idea of it being a metal that is really strong, stronger than steel, but really light, to make it extremely good (best in the world) for armour and weapons, and even smithing tools. It could also be like obsidian in appearance to fit in with the volcanic idea, but maybe they did not find too much in the volcano, so it is super sought after by the kings, queens and richest of the world due to it's amazing properties. Another idea would be for it to have magical properties, or make it really easy to imbue with magical properties, but I'm not sure how magical you and the other builders want to go in this world. Can't wait for the next episode!!

Here is a crazy idea: Renaissance Alchemy Dwarves The special resource is a metal found in copper deposits that when put in proximity to iron, and why copper is in sure heavy use, it heats up rapidly and glows. If touching iron it combusts allowing flecks for use as explosives. In addition it would have common every day use such as water heating or lights. This could have heavy use in sciences as combining it with other materials could have incredible or unexpected results. You could even go crazy with it and have steam cannons, burning weapons, flame throwers and boiling oil towers. Steam golem? Heck perhaps they view it as a "gift of the mountain" and the original reason why this volcano formed despite not being on a geographical hot spot?

Perhaps the roots grow more horizontal than vertical, they use materials that cause the roots to stay within constrictions rather than grow out all over the place and through ceilings.
