Some 50 odd years ago, when I was a young man of 19, I rode with a local 1% club with about 25 members at the time. Considering all the "investments" we were into it always struck me as slightly ironic that we rode around on chopped Harley's with our name plastered all over our back so we were advertising to the local cops and other folks as to who we were. I was in for about a year and a half when I decided to leave. It just wasn't for me so I made the decision to go it alone. One of the things that helped me make up my mind was meeting a few people who were into much the same thing, along with much much more, as the club was. But they were always more circumspect in how they did things. They were quiet, non-threatening, and inoffensive but you always knew they could swat you like an annoying fly at any time should they please. They tended to blend in to the crowd and that made their operations considerably easier with little fanfare. One day I was talking to one of the higher ups who had taken a shine to me, and the subject of bike clubs came up. I asked what he thought of them and I was told that they were in fact considered to be a non-entity. The rationale was the cops focused on what they could see since it was so public while the real hitters quietly went about their way doing what they do. That conversation changed my life. I got out of the business of crime and started to make my way as a straight citizen before it was too late. I got a trade, married and had a few children. Mr. straight and narrow for this cowboy. A few years later the club I was in was rolled into a much larger operation that has offices world wide. They turfed about half of the existing members and opened shop but they were much less in the public eye because of the attention they drew from the powers that be. They weren't just high spirited local boys anymore and they couldn't go anywhere without the presence of the law. About a year and a half after that two of their members were gunned down in a parking lot after leaving a local club. Their killers were never caught. Another rival group was blamed but they claimed it wasn't them. I have often wondered about who did the deed and my thoughts always turn back to those quiet fellows in the non-descript cars and off the rack suits. You see, that strip club reputedly their territory and those fellows that got shot? Well, they had decided to make a name for themselves in that establishment and people noticed. So was it just a coincidence or was it a final warning? We will never know will we and I for one don't want to find out.

The line at 3:01 ("And now revealed to be total pu..ies") reminds me of a quote by American actress, Betty White, who passed away in 2021 at the age of 99 years. Betty's quote: "Why do people say, 'Grow some balls'? Balls are weak and sensitive. If you really wanna get tough, grow a vagina. Those things really take a pounding!"🙂
