As a Taiwanese person living in Taiwan, I do wish there were a line or two on how the US or the Western countries might not have come to our aid if it weren't for Taiwan's position in the global supply chain that has developed in the last few decades, semiconductor industry included. As much as we need and appreciate the support, it would be naive to think that these supports are not based on the interests and benefits of individual countries.

Taiwan has always been able engage peaceful discussion with China. Sadly, infiltration by foreign agencies in Taiwan is so dangerously deep that such peaceful engagement opportunities are always intercepted, polarizing Taiwanese People. The Chinese have pissed off all the other countries in Asia - especially India. They've repeatedly attack the Indian border. Let them attack Taiwan. The minute the second largest military in the world knows that China's has a large number of its soldiers in the middle of the ocean, what do you think is going to happen? The Indians are going to sit in a corner rubbing themselves? No, they're going to invade China. The Indian Navy will send its navy into to the Indian ocean to halt all oil and gas, and food shipments going to China from the Middle East, and beyond. India doesn't care about the situation between Russia and NATO, but China getting carved up like a cake is non-negotiable. China also has an aging population, and the one-child policy means that there's a lot of men with no children coming from them (they don't have enough women to reproduce with to keep the population over one billion). The Chinese population going to be declining sharply. Whether they invade Taiwan (or assist in Ukraine - a long, long distance from China) or not, the fun times for the Chinese are yet to start.

I mean , the USA broke the principal of independence and sovereignty of UN members by invading Iraq and operating a regime change ; The Russian federation broke the first two principals and also the principal of territorial integrity by invading and annexing Ukraine ; But the People's republic of china , what principle would they violet? Taiwan is officially recognized by only a handful of country , they don't have a seat at the UN , and the vast majority of UN members recognize the PRC , lead by the communist government in Beijing as the "true china" and that Taiwan is only a part of its territory . My impression of the recent overwhelming show of force near Taiwan is that it was done with the intent of instilling a sense of despair -- to make Taiwan submitting to the PRC seem far less costly to the Taiwanese than engaging in military conflict with the PLA. The drill was conducted in that specific region for posturing reasons rather than training, or else it would have been done anywhere else on the Chinese coast. If the PRC was seriously intending to go to war with Taiwan, they would have kept their drill under wraps as best as they could.

The one thing they are not covering is that the reason there is so much bipartisan support against china is because of the war industrial complex, they are loving this sending more weapons to Taiwan, they like the status quo, but imagine if war with China does break out, imagine the amount of money they would make selling to Japan, Australia, Taiwan and many other countries in that area. I really appreciate your video, which brings attention to this important topic. As an ex-Taiwanese special force operator, I will fight to my last breath to protect our democratic ways of life and my children. Please remember that we're not just some "remote island". If we fall, the first island chain breaks, and Taiwan strait becomes Chinese controlled. From the east coast of Taiwan, China will then be able to send its nuclear submarines to the Pacific without the US knowing it, and the whole west coast of the US will be under the fire range of their submarines. Japan and Korea may also have to bow to China because most of their energy supplies and trades go through the Taiwan strait. US influences will be significantly weakened, and most likely the US dollar will collapse as a result. If you think carefully, we are more like a gatekeeper of the free world.

I am Malaysian Chinese, now calling Canada home. I have lived and worked in both Taiwan and Mainland China. I still have relatives living in Mainland China. As far as I can tell, my relatives are very happy with CCP and their government. I do not believe that China will attack Taiwan unless provoked by either Taiwan's or US action. It is not in China's interest to destroy a place that they hope to integrate into China. Recent announcement by CCP appeared to indicate that China planned to work very hard at unifying Taiwan through peaceful means. There was no mention of unification by force. CCP referred to people living in Taiwan as family. In the imaginary event that China should attack Taiwan, I do not believe that US and the West will come to the aid and defense of Taiwan. It is too far for US and the West to mobilize to come to the defense of Taiwan. China's shore base offensive weapons would see to that that ships and planes from US and the West would reach the Taiwan theatre. If US tries to mobilize from Japan, South Korea, the Philippine or Guam, those bases will be destroyed in short order. Yes, China will suffer damages. But it is much less when compared to what would happen to Japan, South Korea, Philippine and Guam. Major infrastructures in Taiwan will be destroyed with first few days of the conflict. Whatever US is doing now in the Asia Pacific is for the benefits and interests of US and to maintain the hegemony of US. Taiwanese would be quite naive to believe that the US and the West will come to their defense should China attack. Previously, US military doctrine was to contain communism. Now it is to contain China. US has hundred, if not thousand, of military bases around the world. China has one in Djibouti. US will spend some us$850 BILLIONS in military expenses. It is 4 TIMES THAT OF CHINA. Who is the aggressor? Obama started the latest aggression with the pivot to Asia Pacific. US bases in Japan, South Korea, Philippine and Guam form the First Island Chain to contain China. Taiwan is to complete the chain. Taiwan and the rest are just pawns in US great game of hegemony. Taiwan, please wake up.

Well in that regard, Taiwan's position in the argument is that they're not declaring independence not because of keeping with strategic ambiguity but because they've been independent all along. Hopefully nothing happens. I do worry about everyone in Taiwan. Those I know from China don’t want the wars. I’m in Canada.

"Divide and conquer" the old strategy all the european colonizers used to colonized others.....how britain colonized a big country like bharat (india)? No wonder US and europe tried to divide the world, its easier to control them if they are small and divided

I swear to the higher power, after the third time I heard "salami slice," I sliced several sections of the Hebrew National beef salami that was in my fridge and ate them with relish.

I live in China. When I speak with workaday Chinese and ask them, "Will Taiwan being part of China affect your life at all?" They immediately answer no. "Will you die to to bring to bring Taiwan back?" Again, no.

Ask then will they tolerate the US to establishing a military base on Taiwan with weapons that could strike every major chinese city in under 2 hours?

I guess staying on the winning side of history for a long time makes people hard to think they might be lost one day. The world has always been cruel and cold in front of nations raising and losing.

As a Taiwanese for fifty years, I think the problem comes from the political system. If PRC is willing to abandon its communist ideology and embraces democracy, I don't see any objection to reunification. So remaining the.status quo for as long as possible and wait the peacefully democratic transformation of mainland China is the best we can hope.
@@Mark-kr5go 問題是那是不可能的,所以才只能寄望中國和平轉變,雖然那也是希望渺茫。雖然悲觀,但事實就是,歷史的中國就是合久必分、分久必合。 The problem is your independence dream is not going to happen. The only hope is to expect the peaceful transformation of China, though it is also quite unlikely. The pessimistic thing is that China historically keeps breaking up and reuniting, no exceptions. So brace yourself, the typhoon is coming.

China doesn’t mind maintaining the status quo, it’s the US and separatist forces on Taiwan that keep on antagonizing China. Yes, the status quo cannot be maintained for ever but as long as possible is what we can hope for.

@@Mark-kr5go no, no, no, the western media only show the point of view of the separatist. There’s a pro China fraction whose voice is never heard.
