Thanks again for sharing the dyeing process with us! If I may: I would love to see more videos like this, framed like a Vlog, as it is a great source of learning and you are a true role model for us!

Don't know how many feathers I have wasted duck hunting, great reuse Davie

Hi Davie, first of all thanks for your great tying videos,your clarity when explaining is exceptional. I was sixty two weeks ago and as a present I am finally going to realise a thirty year dream of fishing for salmon on the Dee at Aboyne in may,would you consider doing a few videos tying salmon flies,I will have to buy some but as I take most of my trout on flies tied by myself I would love to take a few home tied salmon flies with me, perhaps you have a few favorite patterns?

If you hadn't found your vocation in fly tying and fishing Davie you would have made a great hairdresser for the ladies who love a purple rinse :) Thanks for sharing, something I've been trying myself recently so It's grand to see how you go about it. Like everything you make it look accessible to us all mate.

Great stuff Davie. Would you be able to give a quick demo of where the Bronze and Flank feathers are located on a mallard? I know it can lead to a lot of confusion to those who wouldn't have a hunting background.

I'm always nervous about dying materials in the kitchen. Afraid I'll do something wrong and my wife will kill me. But man, I love the results. Do you ever redye something that you didn't think was quite dark enough. Funny how there at the end of the video you found a CDC feather. Enjoyed that video a lot.

Looks like the perfect colour for a Thunder & Lightning. Would you agree, or should it be more brown?
@DavieMcPhail9 ай бұрын
Hi @hemsjohultet, I would happily use it for a wing on Thunder and Lightning especially the darker feathers though a mix of both in the wing would be worth doing as well... All the very best Davie

Great video as always Davie. Quick question, how much vinegar did you add to the litre of water?
@DavieMcPhail9 ай бұрын
Hi Stephen, I have to be honest I never really measure the amount I put in as you may see in the video I pour straight from the bottle, if I had to measure it it would be around three to four tablespoons worth...If I was dyeing a cape or two and would add in a little extra to make sure as the skin does soak up a lot of the vinegar..I'm glad you enjoyed the video.. All the very best Davie..

Thank you for this video. Do you have any advice for dying a beautiful rich Irish claret color?

I’m surprised how dying them and stirring doesn’t damage them. Amazing! Hard to find Veniards in the states I found. Any good substitutes? And also… the drying system you made is genius! Definitely utilizing that once I get as far into my tying as doing up my own feathers! Great video man!

I've used dyes from Dharma and had good results but you can order from places in Ireland, Scotland and England. Just cost a little more for shipping. I got mine from the place Davie used for his CDC presentation on Wild vs, Domestic. Premiere Angling is Ireland and the price was fair.

Call me obsessive if you like, but I always strip the fluff off before I start, I imagine it soaking up good dye. Economy first …
