Very pretty! September Apples! I just checked out the tie dye kits on you amazon link and they have a Mermaid colored one!!!!! How exciting!!!!

I wanted to get the mermaid one so badly with a Michael's coupon but they ran out. :( There is a unicorn one now, too.

I likely have an amazon link in the video description, but you can also find it at many big box retailers. I will usually wait for a 40% or 50% off coupon before I buy some. I think the best deal are usually the $19.99 kits that have 5 prefilled bottles with powder and 5 refill packets. (This is a slightly better deal than the 3 packet refill kits of individual colors.)

ChemKnits Tutorials thanks so much! I keep an eye on Amazon but never thought to check out local stores. I despise shopping at the actual Wal-Mart store as it's too overwhelming for my anxiety.

Michaels and Joanns frequently have good coupons and you can buy online and pick up in store. :)

Came out gr8. I dislike orange with black but I won't limit myself with that idea anymore, because of how it all came together. Wonder what would happen with some acid mordant on the ones with wool content?
@HoMidontplaythat5 жыл бұрын
I wonder what would’ve happened if you would’ve let the yarn sit in the dye for longer. Would all of the colors mix and become muddy? I can’t choose which is my favorite technique that you use but this is a strong competitor
@ChemKnitsTutorials5 жыл бұрын
They might keep spreading a bit. I think it depends on how much water is left in your yarn when you sprinkle the dyes on top of them. Tie dye doesn't strike very fast.

have you ever tried dyeing wool/cotton blend yarns?
@ChemKnitsTutorials5 жыл бұрын
Hmmm... I'm honestly not 100% sure. I've definitely done wool/viscose from bamboo but I'm not sure about wool and cotton.

No. Tie dyes aren't organic.

have you ever thought about doing a self striping dye yarn?
@ChemKnitsTutorials6 жыл бұрын
I have! I hope to do a more traditional self striping technique at some point, but I recently released a video where I did some self striping yarn in a less conventional manner in DPW #68 kzbin.info/www/bejne/foW6fX1tidySpq8

Did you use vinegar at all in this process? Why/why not? I’m curious to know if the yarn would have speckled more if there was a strong mordant used?
@ChemKnitsTutorials6 жыл бұрын
I did not use any vinegar at all. You don't typically use vinegar when dyeing cotton yarns (they need more basic conditions.) I did an experiment where I presoaked the yarn in vinegar and without vinegar to see if it would make a difference on wool and cotton yarns with the tie dye kit and I saw no difference. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKbOipmOiq1og7c I think that if you had the yarn drier then you might get some tighter speckling. I haven't tried speckling with Rit powder dyes yet. I think the nature of some of these dyes is that they react a bit slower, which means that they will spread out a bit. Acid dyes (which only work on wools) strike super quickly so it is easy to get small speckles with the.

Those yarns are amazing. I'm sitting here with yarn and everything ready to start dying my skein of yarn and can't figure out what to do, I'm so scared!!!
@ChemKnitsTutorials6 жыл бұрын
Oh no! Don't be scared. Think about it as a fun adventure. If you go in with the mindset "I wonder what will happen if I do XYZ" then you'll usually end up delighted. :)

Have you tried with a spray bottle?
@ChemKnitsTutorials6 жыл бұрын
I have! I really like working with a pressurized spray bottle like the misto. This live stream features a number of different spraying options: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYi1fmVpYtZlg68

I was thinking more with a spray bottle more like windex. :)
@ChemKnitsTutorials6 жыл бұрын
I have one of those in the video, too! I didn't like the lack of control with the big bottle from home depot. I preferred the spray pens and the misto for a more even air brush type look. Speaking of airbrush... I want to get a food one someday. ;)
