I think the new 24/2 forms a fantastic trio of lenses for shooting basically everything, together with 35/2 and 65/2.

So I am a late starter to the L mount Alliance but I now have the focal range from 14-600mm and very happy with the Panasonics S5II & SIIX and the Leica SL2-S. Combination of Panasonic, Sigma and Leica Lenses are great. I chose the Leica Q3 over the Sony A7CR and A7R5 because I didn't want to change lenses and I wanted a camera that was small and portable for vacations. I fell in love with the 60mp files from this camera too. I am on the waiting list for the SL3. Cheers!

Thanks for the review....instantly pre-ordered the 24mm... don't need the 90 as I already have the Sigma 100 Macro also have the 35mm contemporary.. I enjoy the ability to see/set the f stop

I agree about the sharpness. I have the 35mm f2, the 65mm f2 and just got the 90mm f2.8 today and all are tack sharp even wide open and handle nicely on my Leica SL Type 601. A great value, especially if picked up second hand. I love the feel of the aperture ring on these. I was shooting M lenses with an adapter on my SL but it is really nice to AF at times so one of these lives on the SL most of the time. I like the 65mm as it gives me a little closer view than the usual 50mm for the detail/close shots I like to take.

Great review, 90mm F2.8 does look fantastic, I liked the comparison of two self-portrait shots taken with 85mm F1.4 and 90mm F2.8, I couldn't differentiate one from the other.

24 and 90 are perhaps my favorite focal lengths, or at least among my most used. (My other favorite and most used is a 35.) My only concern with this Sigma 24mm f/2 is that it doesn't have the depth-of-field range markings on the lens for zone focusing (like on M mount Leica lenses). For me this is essential in street photography, when I'm not always looking at either the rear screen or the view finder and not holding the camera at eye level. This is not a problem with the 90 where I am looking through the finder or at the screen. But I agree, they otherwise look like good lenses.

I got the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG DN Art but the I Series that I do have are the 35mm, 65mm and the 90mm. Not Heavy and small. Cheers!

This combination is also well suited for s35 mode in video. You have the 24mm, 36mm, 90mm and 140mm covered with just to lenses while shooting video (or stills but then you loose some resolution). Perfect for event videos!

Thanks for the video, the game is really changing for the L Mount. Smaller better optics really compete well with more expensive legacy lenses like Leica.
@gyozakeynsianism3 жыл бұрын
True. They also make modern-day lenses and their insane optics and massive size look like overkill. Nikon in particular need to take note, although I know they've got some muffins coming soon.

Would like to see straight out of camera comparison with these & comparible Leica lens. Sharpness & color in particular. Let’s face it, you don’t buy a Leica for its auto focus or video functions.

I have been trying to determine which 85mm to buy for my sony a7c... Now I have put in an order for the Sigma 90mm. The small size is just perfect. 🙂👍

I'd love to see some real-world comparisons with the Lumix S primes. They tend to be overshadowed by Sigma, and I certainly didn't even consider the Lumix 85 which released at the same time as the Art lens, simply because I was so impressed by the size reduction of the Art, and already had a commitment to Art lenses. Now, I'm considering the i-90 as a 135 on aps-c. On forums some people claim that the Lumix lenses focus (c-af) far better, but I don't know if that's significant, nor if the advantage will comntinue to hold up on future phase-detect (or something) focus systems since Sony vloggers and ambassadors sometimes say that the newer Sigmas focus better than Sony lenses. Anyway, I'd be interested in the 24/50/85 f/1.8s compared with similar Sigmas in real-world conditions, generally and in terms of single, video, and tracking focus. If you feel like it. Also, I know that there are often new updates to the S series, so perhaps an interview or collaboration with Sean Robinson or one of the other Lumix folks would be fun. Thanks :)

Can you please review the Nikon Zf. I love your reviews. I am waiting for as Z Mount version.

I have the 65mm and love the lens . On Sony it can be a bit harsh on skin . I wish it focused closer because overall I love how it renders. I am torn between the Sigma 90mm and the new Sigma 85mm f/1.4 you have . I’ve looked at images shot with the 90 f/2 and the 65 f/2 and they are so similar even so with the 24 . I have the Sony 24 f/1.4 and use it so so much . With the Sony 24 f/1.4 I don’t find anything special about its rendering . Where as the Sigma there is something special I cannot put my finger on yet . But for my nature photography the Sony focuses very close and I need that . Also for my live music video I need it often. Peace Y’all and thanks Snap Chick

This is wonderful news. I have the 35 f2 and the 65 f2. I enjoy using them a lot and I reviewed both of them at B&H. I said I wanted a 135 f2 or 2.8 at the end of both reviews. The fact that I will be able to get a 90mm 2.8 in this I series excites me and I can’t wait to get both of these! I am a fan of the L mount and can’t wait to see the images I can produce with this glass!

I have the 35mm and 65mm lenses as well! I know I want the 24mm but the 90mm is perfect for bringing along as an extra lens because it’s so compact! I suspect it will end up on my shelf at some point. :)

Nice review. I love the rendering of those two lens. I thought the 90mm portrait was crisper and looked better than the 85.
@LeighAndRaymond3 жыл бұрын
In reality, the 85mm is just as crisp. I was, however, using f/1.4 on it so there was a more shallow depth of field. Both lenses are amazing. :)
@troyphillips10772 жыл бұрын
I have been using the Sigma 65mm I series for video interviews with a shallow dof. I try to use background light sources because I love the light source rendering from that lens and I’ve been eyeing the 90 f/2 I series for the same reason. Learn to tell stories with your lenses, peace Y’all

You’re a champ Leigh! I have the S5 and been watching reviews in the Sigma 24mm f2. After watching your review and seeing beautiful photos and video it’s a no-brainer. And it’s just come on special price here on Australia for $760 Aus. Dollars. Love to see some astrophotography if you have any. Cheers

Leigh, how is the coma on the 24? Seems like it could be a nice Astro lens. Thoughts?

It is the Sigma 45mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary lens but it is uncoated. :)

Very nice review(s). You're right about the rendering of that morning sun and other harsh light - it is nice to have a soft falloff like what these lenses produce. Both seem to have quite nice out-of-focus rendering too. And they're both super cheap. Ugh.... L-mount's looking pretty good.

Hi, I'm asking because I don't understand your language. Did you experience focus breathing problem at 24mm or do you know? (für Sony) Has there been a software update for the lens? Danke..

This was a very well done review. I wonder how the new Sigma lenses would compare to the LUMIX S 24 1.8 and 80mm 1.8. Perhaps a future comparison ?

Lovely photos! Sigma is making it tough with so many new releases. Do you think the 24mm f/3.5 is as compelling as this 24mm f/2? Luckily I haven't purchased yet!
@LeighAndRaymond3 жыл бұрын
Good question. I think they're both wonderful options. It all depends on what you're looking for - super compact/lightweight, go for the f/3.5. If you want the wider aperture, the f/2 is the way to go! :)
