The subject of recursive subdivision in Blender has been touched several times on KZbin, but the technique I describe here is easier to understand and works really fast. Spare yourselves some time to follow through.

this is, indeed, one of the best tutorials about geometry nodes I've watched until now! Thank you!

@sndosc I didn’t know one could just post videos there. I was under the impression that they have some moderators doing that. Or do you mean email them?!

Took a few attempts to get right and had to get 4.1 as the number help you know you have things correct. Excellent tutorial thanks, great base to start experimenting from.

Wonderful simplification of a very hard concept that I never really grasped before this video. I hope you include the different demo file you showed in the beginning since I’m excited to study it and play around with the setup of each specially the typographic and the dice mesh example. Looking forward to support you on patreon once you create it

Very cool! When I see the shapes that this creates it makes me wonder if you can use a similar method to create a procedural stacked stone material. This looks like it could potentially start what makes stone veneer so appealing with large and small stones integrating. Do you think that is possible though with the current shader nodes? I understand this is with geometry nodes but there are some similarities between the two. What are your thoughts?

I know my way around shaders but for the most part they still remain a mystery to me. This setup should translate to shaders, i just can’t wrap my mind around it.

Amazing! How do you randomise different texture for each UV faces
@ilirbeqiri
@ilirbeqiri 3 ай бұрын
If you use the default grid, with 2X2 subdivision, the UVs should propagate down the pipeline. Else you would have to generate the UVs yourself. That should be a good theme for another tutorial.

Interesting take on how to handle and display the indexes. The index numbering sometimes borderline drives me mad. Definitely feels smarter way to do this than I normally do.

This is beautiful! YOU ARE AMAZING! you are a brilliant teacher! Thank you so much I would never be able to make something so nice without your expert help! I did wonder how one might go about getting images or things other than colors onthe faces as in the example you gave with the ''motion design' text instead of colors on the faces?

The grid gives you a UV attribute, which you can store per Face Corner and then read it from the shader editor. You can map an image that way.

@@ilirbeqiri Would love some more elaboration on this. Whenever I try storing the UV Attribute and using that in the shader editor it seems to disable the other stored attribute.

I’m glad you followed through. I didn’t explain that part. Did you send the grid UV as an attribute to the shader to serve as the texture coordinate?
