Why You Misunderstood Sukuna...

I think one of the most telling and interesting things about Sukuna is his decision to split himself into 20 fingers after destroying the strongest of the Heian period. On the surface, it’s some typical shonen storytelling, but once think about it through the lens of how faulty Sukuna’s ideology is, it’s really quite sad. Sukuna chose to effectively die for 1,000 years rather than live a life where he wasn’t in constant warfare because fighting was the only way he knew to connect with people. We even see a minor interest of his outside war crimes and combat because he took an active interest in Megumi’s memories of the hydrangea, which really showed that if anything he’s more so stifled by his worldview. Also kind of a funny idea that if he was treated normally we could’ve had Sukuna the hulking 4 armed gardener.

yeah I think the people who were mad were just too hyped up on their favorite youtuber's theories and upset they didn't get what they wanted. But as someone who started JJK close to the end, I got to absorb it as a whole and not week by week. By the time I caught up it was already over and it really has me excited for the anime. Like I just want to see JJK get the full anime treatment. For me at least I prefer anime over Manga. Just easier to convey the action when there is movement. I was really worried for a sec after all the backlash that it may hurt the anime. But I think JJK will go down as one of the classics in anime as well as Manga.

I think Jogo being used as a measuring stick for Sukuna and Gojo's power levels but also his ideals being laughed at by the strong is maybe the most interesting thing about the writing choices between these three characters. The cursed spirits are initially setup as the main threats the heroes of the story will face, but before the end of the first episode or two are pretty much completely overshadowed by Sukuna and Gojo. From the viewer's perspective, you already know what will happen to Jogo before it does; the writing has already indicated where cursed spirits stand vs the two strongest characters before the Gojo vs Jogo fight. The most interesting foil parts are how Jogo values other cursed spirits and furthering their society in the same way Gojo seems to value other jujutsu sorcerers and furthering their society. That seed is planted about both of them very early on, but the difference is Gojo was basically born with the strength to make it possible, while Jogo seeks the strength of others. He almost seems to know he is weaker than what he is up against and is going to fail, in my opinion. His rage feels very... impotent and sitting at the surface. Like he's suffered defeat before. And when he is eventually defeated by Sukuna... Sukuna seems to understand that Jogo struggled to get to where he is now, but wasn't strong enough. Sukuna respects that he tried and gave what he had for an ideal, even if it was a failure. Sukuna also does this with more respect to Gojo. Makes you wonder why Sukuna respects their struggle after they are defeated. Maybe he struggled and failed for an ideal himself and that's what the other path is we see at the very end?

The fact that he was treated like he was and he never really knew how to love or connect in a normal way, and he still was able to be open minded about changing his ways after his defeat is a great conclusion for him, and quite unexpected story writing. I'm not sure how many primary villains we've had in manga that were able to do this. Please do a similar video about Uraume and their relationship with Sukuna, with the last chapter and especially the latest info from Gege on their choice of vessel, it really changes how I viewed Sukuna's reaction to meeting them again (manga specifically), it also changed how I viewed the panels of them talking to Sukuna, it all became so much deeper, like you said, Gege doesn't coddle, you need to look for it.

Sukuna wanted to destroy Yuji’s ideals and make him swallow his suffering. This is because he swallowed his suffering which turned into a curse which caused him to be alone. He wanted to prove that what he chose was the right path. Then he realizes that he had two other paths, but he chose the path of beinrg alone because it would be easier to swallow his suffering than battle it.

Was playing Phantom Liberty while watching this videos. I noticed similarities to the two stories. V and Yuji fighting and struggling to find values in their life. Both get implanted with a form of consciousness Johnny and Sukuna, in which they learn empathy. Both have incidents where they lost someone important and changes the course of their life. Idk just unique

Man Gege can really cook sometimes, and that's why I hate it even more that we didn't get the name of juji's domain OR more importantly how yuji views the same curse technique differently then sukuna as it was heavily implied with the "scissors marks" appearing when yuji used cleave. I think it would definitely improve the ending in a huge way.

One of my favourite bits about sukuna is how he only calls characters by there names once he respects them, it’s an easy way to tell what he thinks of them. Once he finishes gojo off and smiles, he calls him by his name to his face. Likewise with yuji, only calling him his name rather than “brat” after he’s already won. I’m sure this also goes for other characters but I can’t remember 😦

I always thought of sukuna as the outcome of throwing a prehistoric dinosaur into a zoo full of regular animals from the modern era. Its just gonna be a slaughter, which is why I dont see the point of hating his character. You cant just grab someone especially sukuna from an era where violence was normal and expect them to have a tragic back story or a reason why they are "evil". Do you think kashimo, Gojo, and sukuna were brought peace by fighting the strongest, realising they weren’t the strongest (could lose), actually being able to try their best or being acknowledged by the strongest? They were all pretty alone and bored. Also looking back at everything plus your video do you believe sukuna actually wanted to win? Cause he left Yuji a lot of times not counting where he got saved (no dis to yuji bulk). I’m not saying that he let them win but he had a little hesitation or his life was too long as with kenjaku. Cause killing ur direct counter probably a good idea, no? That’s why I believe kenjaku didn’t really care if his plan had succeed as much as everyone thinks cause what else is he gonna do? He is immortal and doesn’t seem to have any grudges more so curiosity like orochimaru in Naruto. That’s why he enjoyed takaba’s fight so much because it was something completely different for him. Kinda like a certain character in Dan Dan Dan/tsun (hyperbole) or like competing against ur best friend in something important not that he’d acknowledge it (subconsciously). Just exploring options here 😅

You’re making a cake out of bread crumbs. Sukuna had potential to be characterized especially with how he was persecuted to being feared as a deity, but we got nothing. Also most religious concepts surrounding Sukuna was thrown out.
