Super Jesus don’t knock the 617... horsepower isn’t everything.. it’s torque that makes the power.. 617’s aren’t known for racecar.. mine has 223hp but 355 torque and pushes my 6,000lb 71 f100 pickup 75mph down the highway with no issues.. i even use that truck to pull my 22 foot bayliner on weekends.. truck has om617 with 7mm plungers, HX30W cummins turbo with ford m5r2 transmission and 31 inch tires.. and still nets me about 25mpg average..

I’ve had good results using neutral balance flywheels on my om617 swaps.. so far i have 5 under my belt lol.. it all started when i got an om617 that came without a flywheel... my 70 f100 already has around 80k miles since the swap was done with no issues thus far.. no crazy vibrations or anything.. plus i love the crazy mpg I’m getting and the fact that this truck is a tank now and will run on what ever i dump in the tank.. diesel/kerosene/waste motor oil/veggie... etc

I have a neutral balance jeep flywheel on my om617. It has a little vibration at 2200-2300. Otherwise smooth. Any of yours do this?

Cant wait to see the results. I just put a OM617 in my JEEP Comanche and I am thinking about what mods to do at the engine at the moment. I would really like to see a comparison between the Holset HX30 Vs. the HE221. I will be interested in seeing the low rpm boost comparison as I will be using my truck for off-road festivities. I will be utilizing the jeep comanche's stock AX15 and transfer case as well.

@@JDHick86 And how do you like it? Is the AX-15 a worthwhile effort for the om617? I think the majority of swaps with this combo would be for 4x4s so not sure about street/highway driving

@@BenzForce my 300sd build is to be my "shop truck" with El Camino conversion. I plan to tow my drift 450slc with it also. Since the ax15 is almost identical gear ratios to the stock auto, the 3.23 vs 2.88 stock with . 79 OD puts highway top gear at a 2.55. the lower first will be great for towing and probably unnecessary when not towing(plus killer mileage). If I have to gear down on highway grades towing it will still do highway speeds in 4 th.

It should be, others are running the adapter without issue. I am still getting the car itself ready for the engine so havent played with the setup much.

Why would the flywheel need to be balanced to the engine, if both of them are balanced???

Apparently the om617 is externally balanced. So the flywheel on the original engine may have been weighted to bring it within balance

@@superjesus4307 I believe they are "neutral balance" but they spun the crank and flywheel and touch it a little to get it closer to correct. I know the early 2.2 and 2.3 gas 6 cyl m180 were like that. Not like a 10oz(for example) balance weight like a 400sbc or a small block Ford.

@@jonscotty422 my om617 turbo was external balance. But it came with no flywheel so I had to neutral balance the flywheel.

I am not familiar with any other MB 4x4 kits. I strongly recommend you do a LOT of research. For the om606 adapters, the "superturbodiesel" or "OM 606 superturbo" groups on facebook would be a knowledgable group of people to ask. Adapters are expensive so make sure you get feedback from someone actually using it! Lots of "experts" that gain knowledge from an armchair :)
