It was pissing down when we collected the Ducati Panigale V4S, so hotfooted it straight to JHS Racing and stuck it on the dyno. Direct comparison with Aprilia RSV4 included. Ducati claim 215bhp at the crank. What does this mean at the rear wheel?
NOTE: we followed the Ducati factory's instructions and dyno'd with the tank off.

why would the fuel tank need to be removed?!?
@FortyFourTeeth
@FortyFourTeeth 6 жыл бұрын
By shifting the fuel tank further back under the seat, the battery and ECU (and everything else) sits at the front where the fuel normally is. With the V4, there's no way of simply lifting the front of the tank to get a dyno connection like you can with conventional bikes. Small price to pay for exquisite performance

One thing I've noticed watching a variety of dyno runs is that the room for error is massive. The difference between some machines, locations etc.. have huge impact. A properly run in bike, with warm tires and plenty, cold intake air would probably be closer to what MCN ran it in at. This comment section is 40% Ducati fanboys being blown away and 40% Ducati haters finding every nitpicking reason to hate it. If you don't like the bike, don't buy it, if you think it's overpriced, don't buy it. What Ducati has objectively managed to do here is make a very powerful v4, with a wet weight of approximately 15kg less than a lot of it's 4 cylinder competitors and (if we listen to early track reviews) vastly superior handling than it's 2 cylinder predecessor. The thing is you can't go wrong buying a flagship sports bike in 2018, they're all brilliant. So stop bashing everyone's opinions just because they don't match yours. Everyone has their own motivations for buying a specific bike, so be happy for them that they did, instead of filling each comment section with unjust cynicism.

Exactly. Infact I am cutting and pasting a comment I made on the Ducati form I belong to here. I for one, am glad to see 44teeth bring people back down to reality about the V4. This was an honest dyno run with real talk and not a bunch of hype. Just strap it up and go right to the chart. Should people be disappointed in the numbers? Hell no! This bike is in its first year with load of potential. And everyone remember. The true use of a dyno is to help tune a bike. The V4 could make 188HP but after tuning it may make 202HP. My point being that dynos have way to many variables to be the judge of how much HP a single bikes in comparison to other bikes. To make proper comparisons you need to use the same dyno on the same day with a room that temp and humid are controlled very tightly and to insure parity..

People don't realize how much HP 189 is. Just a few years ago you had to do the heads, cam it out, full exhaust with tune to get just in the 175-180 range. Now they're 190 off the showroom floor. That's a shit ton. And 99% of riders out there don't know how to use that power. In fact, it's probably causing them to go slower, because the HP is too much for them to handle. I knew the 216 was bullshit number for to the wheel HP. That's getting near MotoGP numbers. But damn, 189 is a superbike racebike. Do a full exhaust and tune and you're putting down 200 damn HP. That's like a fucking World superbike.

The 188 is more realistic than the 198 claimed by MCN. Too bad they didn't make this bike a little more friendly to work on. But at the end of the day still a very powerful bike. 3 hp up on the 1299 but heavier and way down in torque. The improvements are in its flat engine power delivery

Would be quite cool if a bike dealer would publish a weekly (or monthly) dyno figures for a demo bike as its running in to see how (or even if) that makes a difference... back to the bike... i'm currently trying to sell my liver to raise money for this bike, it has one careful owner and is already semi pickled...

When will see someone explain the dyno procedure? Is it max rev in each gear, is it the run down that's measured? What was john doing with the remote box?
@ZX6R2KGT
@ZX6R2KGT 4 жыл бұрын
You start down low in the RPM of whatever gear you deem best and record all the way til redline. Usually it's the gear closest to a 1:1 ratio but I've seen this bike dyno'd in 4th and here in 6th. The remote in his hand is just a way to start/stop the recording process. The bike is obviously building power as you run up through the rev so that is what is recorded, not the run down. Sometimes you'll see them quick shift around and accelerate/decelerate and even run out each gear. That's mostly just to get some heat in the tire so it is less likely to slip if you're not sitting on it or have it strapped down tight enough. Everyone has their own procedures but the general idea is the same. Find the gear, record the run, tune a/f accordingly and repeat.

Only muppets get upset by 'only' 188 HP. Like they could even handle 150. My '11 flashed ZX10R made 184 and that was a rocketship at high revs. Unlike that bike, this V4 has mucho torque too so it must feel amazing to ride, especially on the road.

Great video thanks for all the information. I think it would have been nice to know how the 1299 and S1000RR compared on this particular dyno as well to really get an idea of how much more power it makes over the other liter bikes. Still a bit disappointing in my opinion considering it’s got an extra 103 cc. It does save 20 to 30 lbs of weight over the Aprilia so that’s a plus at least. Haha
@paulklees9871
@paulklees9871 6 жыл бұрын
Jaret Campisi you have anderstand why Ducati Build a 1100ccm?This 103 ccm more as you can see on the Curve compair with a RSV4 is in every RPM better on Ducati.103ccm more are not only gonna use for the Top End Power reather for a good Power in every rpm.and for shure each 15000km Service is not Bad for a Bike with this Power.the V4 1100ccm are Build for 80%of Rider wich using that Bike on Street and eaven Trackdays and on Street you dont wont to bee all Time over 8000rpm to feel the Power.In my Opinion Ducati has Make a good step,for most of People a 1103ccm and for absolutlley Crazy Guys wich has somme Skills a V4 R this Bike will be presenting this Year.The v4r has 1000 ccm but the same Power on the Top End like the 1103ccm maybe more but eaven more RPM and in the Midrange less Power than the 1103ccm.Dont wory this is only the begining of this what thatEngine can put out on Power.Dont forget Ducati still the World Record holder of the most Powerfull v2 Engine and bigest Pistons ever made for a Street Bike .And i think nobody try to overpased that because Ducati push the v2 on the Limit.And The Desmosedici GP wich is similar with the V4 Engine is the most Powerfull Engine in the GP😎

aw c'mon Jared, you yourself said in your statement "been nice to know how the 1299 and S1000RR compared on this particular dyno" - I'll add, on this particular day, back-to-back-to-back, is truly the only comparison. Can't be disappointed until an apples-to-apples is done. Just because the RSV4 did 181, say Dec 12, 2017, doesn't mean that this bike wouldn't have made (hypothetically), 195+ HP. But you get the point.

Very interesting to see the graph, similar curve to the Aprilia RSV4 but the extra 100CC makes the 3% to 4% (roughly) extra power (RSV4 about 182 on most Dyno), but as Fagan says its not just the power figure, forget its 'cheating' and has 10% more CC - the bikes electronics, light weight, super sharp handling make it so much more, I am not a Ducati fan I actually own an RSV4 (I have had 3 of them) but the Ducati V4 achieves immense drive and turns so easily it is something else, I really dont think they needed to add the extra 100CC - really isn't 1000CC fast enough for all of us, but they were hardly going to release a bike with same or less power than the competition - either way it is one hell of a bike, I want one !

Been watching your OLD BIKE series and enjoying the fun... However, ... regarding, PEAK numbers, they're are fine... BUT WHERE in the RPM range are they occurring? Can you POST the Dyno chart and link it so someone can get a look at it? Because PEAK number tell only HALF the story. The "torque curve" tells you how the bike going to behave or 'how street rideable' a bike is going to be, or is it really just more a fast "track' bike where all the power only comes on after 11,000 rpms.(?) Will it really pull away from traffic without having to drop down 2 gears OR if it's going to be a dog UNTIL it gets up to where the power is? Generally, MOST "daily riders" spend "very little time" in up in the ultra high rpm range and a bike is tonnes MORE FUN if you can cruise around at a quick, but NOT FRANTIC, pace letting the motor's low-mid range torque do the work without HAVING to double down shift every time you need a little grunt... most of the time. Other times you DO want a 'frantic riding pace' while wringing out the motor to get the most you can! Look at a dyno chart of a Suzuki GSX 1250FA. NOTE that PEAK torque is at ONLY 3500 rpms BUT at that rpm the torque is 75 lb-ft.to the wheel (or 86 lb-ft at the crank... at ONLY 3500 rpms) which makes for a VERY easy to ride big bike that is still very lively. OF COURSE no one buys a Ducati Panigale V4 for 'easy riding'... TRUE. BUT if I know that I'm going have to wring the rpms out of a bike to get it moving, "maybe" I'll need or want to look at different bike for over-all "road riding" and save the Duck for 'track days'.... THAT would be the reason for asking about the dyno chart. WHERE'S the power and how much can I expect there? www.dragomoto.cloud/mrkt/mivv/SUZUKI/dynochart_GSX1250FA_gp.jpg THANKS!

It's also 10hp down on this one kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIvYi3qqmbuKrdE done at bsd but with the tank on. JHS and BSD numbers usually seem pretty close on most things. Ducati plays it’s own game and bends the rules)) Its good for customers who is gonna just ride the bike But for racing aspect its not right I know they will release V4R But it will cost as TWO Aprilia RF’s I believe the Ducati V4 can pull better numbers with full exhaust as well 188 hp is not limit I believe Full Termignoni gonna add another 8-12hp... So it’s gonna be about 200hp on wheel Which is really impressive! But if you take 100cc away it would be more fair. From consumer stand point it’s good You getting more power ,more cc)) But again the price even for base version is not small, 25k $ ? But! This is damn Ducati)) They are not supposed to be cheap like GSXR 🤣

Probably the desmo valve train is a little more efficient than a spring-return valve train. My guess worth about 1%. Most bikes are about 12% drivetrain losses (chain drive, modern FI bikes). So giving Ducati a 11% loss would be the most generous. 220 hp claimed X .89 (11% loss) = 195 WHP. Using 13% loss would amount to 191 WHP. Given the gooey tire on that bike, the temperatures in that dyno room, the O2 levels in that dyno room, the elevation of that dyno room, the fuel condition, the engine oil conditions.... I'd say the results are about par. ECU flash, full exhaust, and some other things would improve it as usual.

I love how 650ib says the special will make more hp. How ?? It's the same displacement so it will have to give up bottom & mid range to get more max power . There is always a trade off unless there are Titanium rods & other very $$$ parts. Even then to get these big numbers cannot be achieved through custom exhaust or Up-Maps. So you get more but end up with less. Good luck on your thinking !!!!!!!

Even if the good old Rsv4 is still a superb machine and seems not that far off the new Panigale V4 Rsv4 feels a bit old and meh. I Remember when I rode a rsv4 for the first time and looked down on the shiny and slim frame and had a big grin on my face, but it is time to move on to at least a new lighter design, the power is there still after all. The new Panigale V4 after seeing it in the flesh is very pleasing to the eye and to the touch but, 1100cc? I want to race sometimes too without selling my soul. 1000cc base model would be perfect for me.

You must have sold your soul already if you could afford to buy a Panigale V4 and then go racing with it. Just ask the devil for a few more bucks. Or buy a track RSV4 and race that which would be cheaper in parts anyway.

+Daddy Government What does styling have to do with performance? Do I say that the rsv4 is lacking anything in that regard? hmm... Look the rsv4 has had this styling with small alteration to the fairings since like 2009 or 2010, cant remember when it came out. It needs a new fresh look and maybe a weight reduction to make it look exciting. for me an 600 is good enough performance wise but weight wise I am hard to satisfy :P

I beg to differ about the ease of working on that bike as opposed to the Aprilia I have found at the Aprilia is very easy to work on. The weight of the Aprilia is quite comprable and one thing I would take a look at is how much does each bike cost I believe the Ducati is almost $10,000 more. Also take a look at the warranty costs of each bike Aprilia has very low warranty rates it is often referred to as the Honda of Italian motorbikes

Aztec Warrior6969 if the tank seals the air box, it's pulling air from the box periphery. Shouldn't be a problem unless the dyno fans are creating a pressure drop across the fuel tank underside.

lmao. Ducati has 104cc's more, and they advertise that their V4 makes 15 more hp, and they only end up 8hp ahead of the Aprilia...good job, Duc. they've got a history of overrating their bikes. the Multi 1200 is advertised as making the same amount of hp as the S1000XR, and it's some 30 hp down from it when you put them both on the dyno.

guys, compared to most Ducatis of old, you must remember the engine has now been rolled back SIGNIFICANTLY in the chassis (even relative to the Panigale). before this point, the plug wire on the front cylinder was likely the easier of the two to access, but now the front cylinder is wedged up between the frame rails almost like an I4, so those days are over. 44T's doing it right, the others...? not so much.
