I’ve been playing with my glass “flat lap” and sandpaper and wood blocks for 10 years… yeah.., 30 thou definitely is a workout with the sandpaper!!!! I’m probably going to brake down and get the little $600 dollar harbor lathe… my old buddy with the killer machine shop croked on me last year unfortunately… they fantastic thing was I got to make a few of his Stihl’s run better over the years and he got to run one of my 350 hotrods when a large oak fell onto one of our wheelchair bound buddies and we went to take the tree off his house and get the hole covered for the winter…, old jimmy got me into the adaptive diving… when you get a chair bound person into the water and they are free’d and weightless in the water it a pretty awesome experience!!! We had Quads that would come play… it’s very heartwarming when you get to share those smiles!!!

@@dynojoemods2764 😂😂😂😂. Yeah man! Looking back over the past 12 years or whatever it’s been since I got “seriously” into building and modding and looking back and LMFFAO about some of the crazy stuff I thought might be a good idea is pretty funny!!! You either need access or you need to buy and build a shop if you want to get into that upper level of engine building… I remember 10 years ago seeing that European guy with his different species of wood blocks on his homemade squish band cutter’s and thinking it’s possible to do this crap by hand…just can’t be in a huge hurry… what takes a 1/2 hour in a shop with a lathe…took me a solid month on my first husky 350 to 353…45mm flat top build but I’ll never get rid of that saw and I enjoy every single hour of rubbing those thou’s off and measuring then going back at it and measuring… and sanding and wishing that it was going faster…and then doing more sanding!!! LMFFAO!!! Best dang addiction I’ve ever found!!! 😂😂😂😂

If you drill a hole in a spade bit or use a torch to punch a hole you can use an aftermarket piston with sandpaper glued on its roof and an old piston pin… spinning it with a drill… sanding the bands and whatnot… you can make a wood jig that you can chuck and get a piston pin and spin your piston…

I’ve seen people lift the squish band and then go in and cut the base. Is the reason for this that they are trying to lower the exhaust port to gain compression? If you don’t need to cut the squish band because of a gasket delete, would you still consider doing it because of the timing changes?

@dynojoemods2764
@dynojoemods2764 3 жыл бұрын
Cutting squish reduces the combustion chamber size raising the compression. Also allows you to cut the base even further to move the ports around. Some saws perform better with a lower exhaust and a bit more intake duration

Nice job Joe, what is the reason for cutting the squish and base. Is that so you don't have to cut so much off the base so doesn't lower ports so much or matching to the piston etc? Sorry if that is a dumb question 😂
@dynojoemods2764
@dynojoemods2764 3 жыл бұрын
If swapping pistons, or reducing the size of the combustion chamber for more compression and lowering the ports. Some saws benefit from a lower and wider exhaust port.

How does this help unless using a taller piston? If you did this to a cylinder and used stock height piston it would lower compression and would lose power!
@dynojoemods2764
@dynojoemods2764 9 ай бұрын
Remove the gasket or cut the base on a lathe. Some saws the piston will hit the head without a gasket. So you can drop the cylinder and cut the chamber to increase the compression

Just for giggles I drilled a hole into the upper transfer from the outside of the cylinder...used a 1\8" carbide hog on a Dremel to raise the roof of the upper transfer..from the outside in..then tigged up the hole. No 90° grinder?..make do. Long hog through the lower cleans up the weld.
