A lot have been asking for squish cutting mandrels, so I came up with this system for cutting the squishband area.
worksaws.com/p...
Large mandrel
worksaws.com/p...
small mandrel
they come with 1 size bore rings, other sizes are ordered separately.

Very cool, I enjoy the fact that you have all the equipment to do top notch work but yet you still try to figure out a way to help show other like the “average joe” how to do these machinists only fixes with out all the machines. Thanks for posting. I’m working on making my own way of making my own squish cutter for my cylinders out of old pistons. It’s not as good as your setup but these are tje things I enjoy doing the most. Problem solving on a budget and with only hand tools and my lil rotary tool.

Forgive me if you already know. If you have a surface grinder, grind the bottom of the set screw flat to hold the tool bit. One set screw should really grip that bit then. A trick we used to do at the machine shop.

@@old509cc2 sorry, I don’t. I got the idea from a forum post that I found and just used a 3D printer to make the insert. It works well if it’s all you can do but I wouldn’t recommend it if you can cut the base any other way because it’s pretty dangerous having your hand that close to a fully exposed router bit.

@@dynojoemods2764 Next question is I'm assuming that for the smallest cylinder the mandrill just rides on the cylinder. On those unless I'm seeing it wrong. The tool cutter comes out to the edge of the mandrill but there is no slop on that setup to slightly cut the ring of death? Maybe I'm just not seeing it. Next question is how the guys using your slick tool cutting the base without a lathe or mill. Sorry for all the questions. I just like to fully understand something. Thank you Joe.
