What a great description of dyslexia! Our children need more educators like Marianne in their schools to give them the confidence to succeed.

Dyslexia is as much a money grabbing industry as it is a reading issue. Parents spend cumulatively hundreds of millions of dollars a year, nationwide, for single digit percentage gains in grades. Dyslexia is an industry!

Its an industry because kids aren't identified until 3rd grade and whole language methods "guided reading" is the norm, not phonics based instruction.

Who is getting rich off dyslexia? There is no funding available for the work I do.

I can only read due to therapy for my dyslexia. May be an industry but it's a needed one and changed my life for the better.

I've always wondered if I was dyslexic. Growing up I was told I was just careless when I wrote 'p' and 'b' backwards, or missed out letters and didn't understand why. I'm still a slow reader but I dont have issues with sounding out words or anything. Maybe I am just careless. I'd love to get tested some day.

I was like this when I was younger and my family got extremely frustrated at my slow reading as my older sister learned much faster (it took me 2 years longer to learn to read) as I got older I always wondered if I was dyslexic and having just got tested at the age of 21 I now know I am dyslexic. I was never sure as I always did well in school and even go to a top university studying to be a vet but now I finally have my answer and can finish my degree with some very appreciated extra support.

+Jonathon Bouillir I really recommend a book called 'the gift of dyslexia' by someone Davis (it'll come up if you google it) it's the book my parents read when I was dyognosed at the age of 8 and the book I read recently when I was struggling more so that before. I hope it's helpful
