Thank you for the explanation. It makes how the DC14 works more understandable. In the end I just want my vac to pick up debris on the floor

Excellent! As you may have seen I’m having issues with one of mine, I will take a look at it at this angle and see how it’s doing and I may just need to grease where the floor head connects to the sides. Thank you. 😊

Dyson had an issue with the DC07 not picking up debris on the carpet, their fix was replacing that internal spring. Google DC07 not picking up on carpet. The vacuum head is to light with out some spring assist keeping the head to the floor. A common fix before replacing the spring is to lengthen the spring. first remove spring wash in hot water let dry. on the top side you will have the gray snap on cap back out the hose till the spring end is just over the upper most land, then screw hose on brush roll housing and back off 1/4 turn. Snap top in finished. Then test push force, wont take too long to test and return back to where you had it. I rebuild these vacuums, I don't fix the springs any more but address the issue in other ways.

The easy fix it when opening up the base for service to remove one half of the top coil to re-spring the baseplate.

Hi there, I'm in Swansea, South Wales Uk and I repair these machine for a living. I have noticed a difference between uk and usa models dc14 and dc07 the nozzle plate on the usa models has a bigger opening compared to ours. There is a problem with the dc07,14 and 33 that after a while the hose underneath does lose its springiness and does not push the head on to the carpet. Lots of customers complain the head just glides over the carpet but does not pick up.

Dave Greenwood yes, I have heard that about non-USA machines. Possibly Dyson has created a different nozzle for the US market that is immune to that issue. I always find it quite odd that essentially the same machine can have certain manufacturing and feature differences based on the country of sale. I would make sure that the nozzle pivots correctly and is lubricated if necessary.

I never made the connection before but I think that Eureka copied this when premiering their Suction Seal tech.

Eureka thinks that they need to target Dyson though I prefer the vacuums from their history. The had great direct fan uprights, until about twenty years ago they made excellent power nozzles for their canisters and central vacuums and they had great attachments. They invented the full suite of attachments that we've known through the history of the vacuum and had a great catalog of attachments right into the online era. I still have many. Electrolux sold them to Midea this year and I've noticed that the catalog has shrunken. They have come up with two new attachments for their new upright the FloorRover but I've not seen anyone review the machine yet but the powerhead looks like a toy. Weight is so important for a powerhead in my opinion and so many of the new machines appear to be so light that I don't think they can effectively deep clean. Many new machines have also returned to smaller diameter brushrolls. I prefer the larger diameter rolls with long densely packed soft brushes. I still think that brushes should be soft. Having experienced what you did with your Hoover Windtunnel and the carpet fiber I think that you can see why.

Curious. I have this vacuum but it makes a really loud noise when I use it on carpet. I don't know what is wrong with it. Any ideas. The sound is horrible. It sounds like it does when something gets trapped in the brushroll but I have taken the brushroll off and there is nothing obstructing it. It has been like this for 8 years. I gave up on it.

ShrinkDavid 1982 can you make a video showing the issue?

It may be that the brushroll needs a rebuild. Typical for machines of this age.
