Hi :) You don't need to remove the motor unit and bin. You can just unscrew the three screws and pull the battery out. I have just replaced the original battery for a no-name one in my V7. Basically you could leave out the two screws near the bottom - and then have two batteries to swap from - just like with other power tools.

The vacuum was very expensive when I bought it, when the battery died a month after the warranty ran out I went to dyson for a replacement battery, 95 bucks AND the thing was out of stock! Thank god for no name batteries on amazon and tutorials like this! I will never purchase another dyson product.

Agreed. I bought mine in 2023 but realized the Dyson I purchased was made in 2020. Battery lasted 3 months and can only hold a 30-min. charge. The battery for the cordless must drain or leak sitting on the shelf for ages waiting for someone to afford it. Dyson needs to come up with something so these batteries have a longer shelf life. If I buy Dyson again it will have to be with a cord. 😢

My V7 is about 4 months old. I’m I installing a more powerful battery. The only difference I noticed is the Phillips head screws have been replaced by vey small torx heads. Thanks for the vid.

Sal - Dyson Engineers should learn from your videos. I liked my Dyson V7 Absolute - until the battery went out after just a few months vacuuming the car in Florida. Dyson uses a lithium-ion nickel-cobalt-aluminum (NCA) type battery - the downside is that it has a lower temperature rating than other types of lithium eg LiFePO. Their NCA battery retails for $95 (ouch). Dyson said to let it cool off - split a big job into smaller ones with cool-downs & let it cool off before charging again. As an Engineer myself - I favor designing products to be universal. Yet none of my different Dyson vacuums can use each other's attachments. I'd really like to put my V7 Power Head (or even just the motorized tool) on my Dyson Ball Multi Floor Upright - a monster with 270 airwatts (yet no tool power connections) - so I can vacuum under the beds with high suction. Somebody needs to come up with a power adapter.

Looking more closely I think it's technically a Pozidriv, but I just call them all Philips on the videos to cut down on confusion!

Actually, upon watching the shorter Dyson video on the battery replacement you find removing the motor and the clear plastic dustbin is not required. Does make it easier and simply a matter of the three screws. You might want to edit this video and upload it again.

The screws in my unit were not Phillips. They were Torx, T6 Screwdrivers.

You don’t have to remove the bin, or the cowl, the video for battery replacement that Dyson has on youtube doesn’t show removing anything, except for the three screws, and battery.

Because not everybody has small screwdrivers. I at least needed to open the bin to get access to the screws as my screwdriver doesn’t fit in the small area.

A better screwdriver is normally a good option. Perhaps grab the screw driver with a pair of pliers to get some torque on it. I don’t think wd40 is going to be advisable with plastic.

max battery life is only meant to Be about 5 min so i think your battery is ok. It’s designed for use in short bursts

On my V7 that was an indication that my battery was beginning to fail. It would usually run on max for 7 -9 minutes, but after 4 years it began to lessen significantly...eventually to the point that it would run on max for less than 1 minute. So I think your battery probably needs replacing noon. Like others here, I bought a no-name brand from Amazon. There are lots of them to choose from, and I decided on one that had lots of reviews and the highest satisfaction rating. It wasn't the cheapest, but not the most expensive and it was definitely less than a battery purchased directly from Dyson.
