Pot of Desires is one of my favorite Yugioh printings of all time!! The reasons is because I think it's one of the most fair forms of balanced generic draw power they could possibly make: a deck that can only play one-ofs will suffer greatly and decks that are powerful enough to get hit on the banlist will have harder times fitting it into their decks. With Ash being in the game, it's one of the best generic cards conceptualized by Konami, in my opinion.
@mfdmwells51045 жыл бұрын
Agree totally with OP. As an F.A. main to this day, I'm proud to have it as a three-of in my deck. I think having a card which encourages you to play 3-ofs and make your deck more overall consistent is good, having a card which attacks the issue of toolbox decks and searching being more and more powerful is good, having both in one is great. Toolbox decks can play this card by searching out all their stuff then playing Desires, but there's a heavy risk-reward attached to it, while weaker decks have little to lose from Desires and a free +1 to gain. The only issue was Pre Ash when it was pretty busted.

@@dinosaur_ryusaki7758 I've been having to say this to a lot of people. My comment was completely misunderstood. I'm not saying soul charge was never broken. A comparison is like pot of greed. Pot of greed like soul charge has always been and always will be broken no matter what. But, would you rather go against pot of greed where your opponent draws more normal summons, or would you rather go against pot of greed where your opponent draws special summons? Yes, soul charge is insane and is broken regardless of the deck playing it. But you can't deny there is a difference between a deck using soul charge to bring back 5 monsters as just bodies versus bringing back 5 monsters to make a huge board. As far as the xyz decks go, yes you can come back, but if you draw soul charge in your opening hand, it's pretty much dead. Was soul charge broken then? Nicholas DeOrio To summarize, Cyber Dragon was an immediate 2100 summon that you HAD to have an answer to if you were going first. It’s super generic so it can go into ANY deck, beefy 2100 body, and if you were playing monarchs it immediately made your Thestalos/Raiza/Mobius (I’m not sure if Caius was released back then but I’m sure Raiza was) live and ready to summon. Your best monster to normal summon back then wasn’t higher than 2000 without being trash-tier (Chainsaw Insect iirc) and it made bottomless a ton more popular because trap hole doesn’t hit special summons.

I have to disagree with your analysis on Ash Blossom: its not healthy for the game. Don't get me wrong: its good to have a counter for desires et cetera, however the crazy 1st turn boards really shouldn't be possible in the first place! I think of Ash Blossom as one of the spell staples of very early Yugioh: there shouldn't be a card that you have to play. Crazy boards with blanket negates need to be addressed by the ban list, not more overpowered cards or you get runaway power creep. Evenly matched is a card that also really shouldn't exist. The trend of being destruction-immune was a bad mistake, and really needs to be rectified in a way that does not increase the game's power level. From a game-design standpoint, both ash and evenly should not exist, and as they are just band-aids for the more serious underlying problem of other types of power creep. A rule of thumb should be that if a card resolving is an instant win, than the card shouldn't exist, and the decks that I make it a "nessesary evil" shouldn't either. Heavy storm was an older good example of this.

I think Pot of Desires is ONLY a competitive card. It's only useful in games where you only need a few turns to win and you have mostly multiples of 3 in your deck for more consistency. In more casual gameplay, this card is very on the fence as it's a self-mill card of 25%.
@NickersonGeneral2 жыл бұрын
You know, comments like this are fascinating. It seems to stem from this idea a lot of casual players have where they assume casual gameplay has it's own meta that can be analyzed, comprehended, and even make a tier list for similar to that of competitive gameplay. I don't know why people think this since casual gameplay can range from players who're just starting out (and have decks that completely and utterly lack synergy) to players who play with competitive decks, but aren't quite good enough with them to enter major tournaments with them. To say PoD is bad in casual format is to assume that EVERY deck in casual play can't afford to lose 10 random cards, either because games last longer (what casual games are you playing that regularly go 25+ turns?), or because all of them have one-of cards that are integral to their strategy, which is: a. not unique to casual gameplay, many meta decks have this quality too b. not universal to all casual decks like I said c. progressively less true the less synergistic your deck is, so the more casual your deck is, the better PoD becomes lol
