One of the better discussions about about Parkinson's that I have seen. Most of the others are simply copies of the same information. This one really stands out and keeps my attention. Thank You. Mh

I think one of the ignored factors is neck and back muscle stiffness, causing the limited supply of nutrients to the brain cells and obstructing the release of metabolic waste from the head. If the muscles on these areas are relaxed at the early stage of Parkinson's symptoms, it may prevent too many brain cells from starving to premature death.

My husband was diagnosed last year at age 52. Deep diving into anything and everything about this condition I stumbled across a chiropractic specialty called “upper cervical chiropractic” therapy. They specialize in the first 2 bones in the spine and brain stem. I’ve read and heard that “some” Parkinson’s patients have made improvements after this technique was performed on them. I’m looking into that currently for my husband. Apparently this area of the neck and spine have everything with hope everything flows in the body. It’s very interesting info. 🙏 it helps him. We’ve tested him for heavy metals and gut health, still need to test for mold. He grew up in a house with a moldy basement and had gut issues his entire life. He’s not taking any prescribed medications yet. 🙏🙏

@lynnpoag8173 I have been working in the field of spinal and posture adjustment for 20 years in Vancouver, Canada. I also have a colonhydrotherapy treatment room for my clients before. But now I'm semi-retired, working more on head, neck, and upper back. I'm aware that most Parkinson's patients have a few common problems,i.e. stiff neck, hunchback, tight jawbone, and poor gut health. You should continue to have chiropractic adjustment, but on the whole spine, not just the upper cervical. Massage his head with the nail to press down and find the pain spots. It indicates areas of minor blockage in the chinese medicine concept. If you find the pain spots, massage gently to reduce the tension. Work on the face muscles to release possible tendered areas. Work on the whole upper body in order to improve microcirculation to the brain. If possible, supplement with good oils such as coconut oil to provide nutrients to the brain cells. He should take colonhydrotherapy on a regular basis and take probiotic to colonize good bacteria after every colonhydrotherapy. This will give him more happy hormones, the serotonin for the brain.

Very informative. Living with PD for many years although only diagnosed in 2018. Exercise is crucial. Still doing Camino walks. Would have loved more discussion on impact of stress as I find that it triggers symptoms.

I believe Chronic Stress is what brings you to many neurological diseases. Stress suppresses the Immune System and Digestion, making you more prone to infection. It also affects Digestion, resulting in poor absorption of Essential Nutrients, leading to Nutritional Deficiencies. Nutritional Deficiencies further compromise the Immune System and cause Leaky Gut and Leaky Blood/Brain Barrier. This allows foreign proteins and pathogens to avoid Digestion and directly enter the Bloodstream, making their way into the Brain. Once there, he more Cytotoxic response of the compromised Immune System causes collateral damage to the Blood Vessels and Neurons. This damage leads not only to symptoms of Parkinson’s, but Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer’s, other forms of Dementia, Long COVID, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME, Chronic Lyme Disease, Fibromyalgia, POTS, MCAS, Depression , Anxiety, and other neurological diseases. The chronically dysfunctional Immune System also allows other pathogens, such as Epstein-Barr Virus, the Shingles Virus, and the Spirochete that causes Lyme Disease to come out of Remission and cause new infections, with some of the symptoms similar to Parkinson’s Disease. There may also be increased susceptibility to Molds and Environmental Toxins, further complicating diagnosis and treatment. Any treatment program must 1) address the Chronic Stress root cause, 2) correct the Nutritional Deficiencies to Optimize the Immune System, and 3) restore integrity to the Gut and Blood/Brain Barrier. Addressing Chronic Stress can include a Change of Attitude, such as offered by Eckhart Tolle’s “The Power of NOW” to break the repetitive cycle of negative thoughts. Improved Sleep Habits, Breathing Exercises, Meditation, and Exercise may also help to reduce Stress. Getting out in the sunshine will not only reduce stress, but produce Vitamin D3 to help the compromised Immune System, and provide intracellular Melatonin, one of the Body’s most powerful Antioxidants. Following a Low Inflammatory, Whole Foods Ketogenic Diet with Intermittent Fasting can help reduce Inflammation in the Brain, provide neuroprotective Ketones as an alternative fuel source to Insulin Resistant neurons, as well as stimulate Autophagy to help repair damaged Body and Brain components. The Fasting will give the Leaky Gut a break from Digestion, so it can heal, as well as help rebuild the Immune System. Supplementation can further aid the recovery process, particularly with Vitamin D3/K2, Zinc, Trace Elements (Iodine, Copper, Selenium’) to bolster the Immune System. N-acetylcisteine (NAC) and Vitamin C can help to boost Antioxidants. Benfotiamine can help to reduce stress and protect neurons. In summary, Chronic Stress can result in chronic dysfunction of the Immune System, as well as Gut issues, Autoimmune Diseases, and Neurological Diseases. Many with Parkinson’s Disease have all of these problems.

My goodness you are right doctor this is how my journey started orthopedic, Rheumatoid arthritis because I was not textbook patient with the classic symptoms. It’s very frustration frustrated when you’re trying to tell you the doctor what you going through here no this is not. I mean I’m not sure why they don’t think outside of the box. This is a disease as many forms and no two patients have the same symptoms almost 8 years since I was diagnosed with it and the shoulder either worse than before this condition force me to retire under disability from my job because I was no longer able to work requirement my job set for lifting bending, and this is sadside of this disease when in fact after I sub my symptoms, got worse the progression of disease is not worse. It was the right side as infecting the left side.😢

hi Dr. Gail, thank you for such a wonderful interview. Now, I have some ideas about my stiffness of my neck, shoulders, and lower back area. Why they're not responding to the levodopa well at all. On top of it, my freezing gait problems also did not respond to the levodopa. My neurologist is aware of this issue. I will listen to that portion of the interview again and prepare my notes. Thank you again.
