Judging from the Jak 4 concept "art" & the more realistic direction they planned on taking the series, it seems like Modern Naughty Dog couldn't make a classic platforming game if their lives depended on it, compared to OG ND.

Crash Bandicoot 1 was stupidly difficult, yet ironically I want to see more games with that sort of difficulty getting released. and no I don't count Black Ops III campaign on the hardest difficulty as one of those games, BOIII on the hardest difficulty is just a complete pisstake, I mean yeah props to the guy who completed that campaign but I'm not one of those people who can play an FPS game where it only takes literally a bullet or two to kill you

I didn't remember any level being unplayable (and figured if it was, the remaster+ might change it) - so I went back and played Road to Nowhere (22:05) and it's mildly challenging, but I jumped in and beat it just in the lives earned playing the one level.

It's bad David Siller was never mentioned he put so much into making the original game. Mark Cerny had nothing do with the original game even Siller says he had nothing to do with creation of Crash he was busy helping Insomniac working on Disruptor. Siller was level designer on the original game and Mark designed the second game and Crash Bash. Evan Wells did designed Warped and Crash Team Racing. But Siller was the one who created most of the ideas he designed all of the levels I've seen his designs on Crash Mania and I've spoken to him as well. I know Andy Gavin credited Siller saying his designs were made later I very much doubt it Mark and Naughty Dog designed nothing for the original game Siller was the one who was the LEVEL DESIGNER. Without hard evidence and no designs from either ND or Cerny and Siller showcasing all his design work for the original game it was Siller who was the LEVEL DESIGNGER. Siller has been swept under the rug personally Mark should not be on the stage he never co-created Crash it was Siller he should be seating there. Most of Sillers ideas made it into original Crash game I won't list them all but one of the famous ones is Pinstripe Potoroo boss fight and Pinstripe dancing around with his tommy gun and Nitrus Brio boss fight as well. The idea of bonking/jumping on stuff which Crash is famously known for is something else Siller came up with to. Unfortunately he will never be a part of Crashs success which is bad and wrong.

a character or franchise can always be relevant as long as its enjoyable, just look at Mario he's been around for over 20 years and will probably always be, and it's not because of nostalgia it's because the games are good, people love the character and the creators truly believe in their brand, just because the technology has evolved and super realistic games can be created now doesn't mean that a stylized or cartoony game won't be enjoyable or well liked we can have a variety of options you know lol

I need to put some information related to this discussion. Mario 64 total sales were higher than Crash 1-3 trilogy, but, we gotta remember, that Mario 64 was bundled with the system at some occations, so it's very hard to do the correct calculation, as you would need to take away those bundle sales, because they're not relevant to the individual sales, which is all about selling non-bundled games. I have a feeling, that Jason said here about the game only sales, not bundled sales.

Crash is still relevant. Crash Bandicoot 2 has the sharpest and best platforming gameplay to this date. But if someone ever were to create a new Crash game, it needs to be conservative, in a CB2 kind of way. Sharp, responsive platforming, in tight, well designed levels.

There was an early interview with Vicarious Visions where they said they showed it to Naughty Dog and it got their approval. Whether or not they showed the original team or the team it is today is questionable. I've heard someone mention that Andy Gavin was fond of the newer additions to the crash franchise whereas Jason Rubin was opposed to them.
