The diff drop was actually funny! Not because I like seeing failure or damage, but because it’s simply 100% reality! You do stuff alone, think it won’t be difficult or heavy, and…bam! lol Best wishes from heart

So you don't have to pound on the ring gear, next time heat it up in the oven so it expands and drops right on the carrier.

🇦🇺 hello from aus , do Americans not use mini spool diff locks ?? It’s a locked diff mount that goes in an lsd to make it locked much rather than buying a full spool centre , small device that locks the axle ends together yeah-nah 🍻👍🏻

if you don't have ring and pinion marking compound you can use just regular thick grease or anti-seize or caliper grease in a pinch. Just need something thick that isn't runny that you can see the pattern in. Clean/rinse it off really well afterward and you're golden.

A lot of the early models (esp 93/94) came with a sport package or some call it the winter package with the LSD. As far as I have come across, they are usually auto and don’t have ASC+T - and they are 3.91 if auto - I’ve pulled a couple out of junkyards people walked right by. The rear sway bar tends to be thicker as well. I almost commented in the last video but figured one of those guys checked it already. I would be careful mixing and matching different parts. I’ve just changed bearings and it’s been all out of whack. The more stuff you keep the same the less play you will end up with, the less it clicks when you spin the input shaft the better lol - BTW on those side covers, the little tabs should be facing up to 12 o’clock cause there are holes that feed the oil to the bearings.

Pro tip for working with a tall trans jack by yourself, Get a chain and wrap it around the arm of the lift to pick up whatever is on the transjack and then you can remove the trans jack and lower it to the ground. It worked in reverse as well. Get a small rolling cart to aid in moving things around.

The ring and pinion should be a matched set. You won't end up with a 3.91 if you dont swap the pinion as well. The ratio comes from the ring gear turning 1 time for every 3.91 revolutions of the pinion gear. Changing tooth counts will result in different ratios

Awesome work I was confused at first on how you left the pinion gear in and it worked but then I remembered you used the same case as the LSD stock diff smart move. You must have heated seats in that car as well because usually you would get a LSD with a winder package. Also kinda surprised that wasn’t a 3.38 but maybe that was more of a M3 LSD for autos.

She's pretty much right as long as the same gears go back in with the same shims you shouldn't have to set backlash again. The ring and pinion are technically supposed to be together as a matching pair they are made specific to each other and wear to match each other. if you have to swap the carrier for different drive shift flange definitely put a new crush sleeve in or the bearings won't have proper tension you can't really get around that, just went through this exact thing last weekend welded is super fun compared to LSDs and cheap as heck if you get one from a good junk yard car look into different gear ratios from different years I got a slightly shorter ratio and my z is actually responsive and doesn't feel like it's sluggish
