The reason Israel doesn't want a one-state solution is because they desire a Jewish ethno-state with a Jewish majority, this was the reasoning behind the Nakba and the mass expulsion of the Palestinians for the creation of Israel in 1948. In the one-state solution the close to 5 million Palestinians in the occupied territories would become Israeli citizens and there are close to 2 million Palestinian Israeli citizens already living in Israel. Meaning about 7 million Palestinians would be Israeli citizens total. There are currently 7 million Jews currently living in Israel. In addition, there is still racism and discrimination against the Palestinian Israeli citizens within Israel for example with zoning laws similar to Jim Crow. The Jewish nation-state law enacted in 2018 solidifies this Jewish Hierarchy within the Judiciary.

Lots of intelligent discussion . I appreciated this but would have loved to question further or push back in a couple of places for further progress . One large one was framing this as a religious conflict . I think that is counterproductive to progress , and it is how Israel tries to frame this conflict to impede resolution . It seems to me to be about land and justice ; but don’t just take my word for it ; I have heard other Imams say the same thing . Framing it as religion makes it epic and resistant to reason . The Zionist project is an irritant in the region precisely because it claims land for one religion exclusively . It tries to paint Palestinian resistance as Islamic intolerance , not a legitimate demand for justice .

israel is forcing the issue despite itself: there can now ultimately only be a one-state solution but this new state will not be called israel (though it will hold former israelis as equal citizens with Palestinians, assuming everybody isn't killed, God forbid) - this is effectively a civil war in which one side has all the power and is trying to eliminate the other side. According to Gideon Levy Palestinians have never had any difficulty living with Israelis - the problem is the other way around. We can only hope that this persists. Perhaps otherwise the territory would have to be carved up and settlers turfed out (the recent settlers will probably have to go anyway). In a sense a one-state (apartheid in character) already exists in the west bank and israel itself (where 2 million Palestinians live). A military strategy isn't a strategy if there is no political goal: Israel has to be made to accept a unitary state and to reform its beliefs.

The Palestinians are entitled to reject bogus offers, which don't result in genuine sovereignty over its land.
