The Portal community, at least us that were creating stuff and talking with ripple effect devs in our discord, were told of Portal 2.0 many times , from our understanding portal 2.0 has been in the works by ripple effect for so long, that they moved on from portal 1.0 straight away, and is the reason they never added to 1.0. many of our requests and bug fixes were noted for 2.0 from what we understood . i wouldn't be surprised if 2.0 even has features our community made such as tools and such

My thoughts exactly building this universe of Battlefields starting from WW1,WW2,Vietnam like Bad company 2 did with the dlc,modern warfare ,and just releasing seasons or Dlc map packs accordingly to the eras of Battlefields...in the reveal they showed Bf1,Bfv,Bf3,so many different eras so my thoughts are a foundation and then on build a universe that every player can choose the era that wants to fight on..

I am VERY glad to hear that the Portal is coming back for BF6. My playgroup is a bit on the older side (age range from 59 to 68 years old). While we love games like BF2042, we know that we can NEVER keep up with the 'kids' and that is exactly why we use the Portal exclusively. While playing against bots sometimes leads to watching our 'teammates' doing either very odd things or nothing at all, we are at least competitive at our reduced skill level.

I'm 62 been playing battlefield since bf2 . They should have servers for us old poeple , that don't have players running 100 mph , continously hopping and diving. Just bring the movement of bf5 back and I'll be happy. The hopping I always disliked it. I remember bf2 they put a cooldown in between jumps. Preventing players from hopping continuously .

Based on the very first footage we saw in regards to BF6 showcasing those maps made of cardboard boxes, im hoping this iteration of portal will have map making tools. If it does we wont need a new battlefield for years when we have the ability to make our own maps as long as the devs give us a massive selection of weapons and gadgets to play with.

The only problem with an October release is that a lot of publishers are wary of releasing new games around that time because of GTA6. If they decide to delay the release of Battlefield until March/April '26 then I'm all for it if it means it doesn't get dwarfed by GTA and they have the extra time to make as polished a game as they can before release.

In that same screenshot you used, the soldier next to the "recon" character is also using ALICE gear (ammo pouches on his belt) the US military used from the late 80's up until early 2000's. I say this to bring up the fact that MAYBE this game could be placed during the first Desert Storm/Gulf War era. Again, everything we see and hear now is all speculation, and this is pre-alpha gameplay so who knows what's going to happen.

I wouldn’t put my money on yet that the classes will be open to use any weapons they want. I think the pre-alpha footage was intentionally hiding things from us and just showcased every soldier using the same M4. They probably don’t want to give out too much yet.

Ofc can't lock weapons by the class, otherwise you will only see assaults and medics in the game since they are having mostly the meta weapons.

You need specific classes to have specific weapons to proritize your targets. Edit: heck if it was up to me I’d go as far as making faction specific weapons like Battlefield 2. But ofc balance them all.

Honestly this is the kind of stuff that makes me nervous. 1. Portal - if they bring it back then fine but not at the expense of a real server browser. I don't want matchmaking again with the potential for SBMM. Look what's going on in Delta Force.... - Portal sucked in BF2042. The servers were stupid and even though you could play OG maps, you had to play them with BF2042 assets (guns, characters and movement) which was just awful. Certainly didn't inspire that old school feel. If this game turns out to be a re-skin of BF2042 then it will be more of the same. 2. IF they open up all weapons to the classes there goes the risk/reward factor that is what the original classes were built on. The more I hear, the more I get BF2042 redux vibes. Just with more destruction and maybe some better maps. I do hope they're overhauling everything but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I’m on the fence with this. I feel like as long as the roles have locked gadgets, and a unique appearance for each class, it should still promote team play while giving the player more choice in weapons. As a battlefield 4 player, I definitely wish I could play the engineer with assault rifles sometimes, just for the gameplay variety. Plus in that game, every class had access to DMRs, shotguns, and carbines, so I don’t think allowing each class in the game to use all the weapons would be game breaking.

Maybe a pet peeve, but I just hope, in a future Portal, they add back in the original UI of the games, e.g. playing on Arica Harbor will give you the Bad Company 2 UI. Playing with the super intense bright blue 2042 UI on a BF1942 map was just horrible.

Tbh, I wouldn't mind if they pushed for a 2026 release instead of this year. Honestly, my biggest worry for the new game is how stable its going to be. Is it going to eat CPU usage? Is anticheat going to mess about with the experience? 2042 for me was fine for years and then over the last few months developed so many stability issues. So many franchises have become butchered and dead to me in recent years, it would be a shame if Battlefield was added to that list but I can only huff hopium for so long, this game will be their last chance to prove to me that they can still make good Battlefield games. V was a disappointment they managed to sort of turn around in the end but development for it was cut short, and 2042 was simply a catastrophe. One failure is whatever. Two failures become a concern. Three failures is a pattern. However, the little we've seen so far looks promising. Hopefully they've learned from their mistakes and are locked in for this one.
