One mod that I did was glue washers around the channel scan and power button. The hole in the washer fits around the button so you can still press the button. The power button is quite exposed and a few times I have found that the googles were discharged because something in my flying bag had rested on and turned on the power. I can't tell you how many times I have accidently pressed the scan button when putting the googles on or off. It's a pain having to rescan the channels looking for your model, or manually setting the channel. Now it's not as likely that i will do it by mistake.

It's a lot easier to change the head strap. Rotor riot sells one that works. It's a thicker stronger flexing. It fixed the problem for me, and the strap has a compartment for an external battery. With the supplied cable I use a 3s lipo. It works all day and you don't have to do some kind of weird mod.

I recommend adding kapton tape to entire back of the screen. The back of the screen looks like thin-steel or aluminum, and it's conductive. One youtuber demonstrated in his battery mod video that this metal back is charged at something like 5v, so it causes bad interference if the screen touches the circuit board. (It was happening to me.) Yeah, so about 2 or 3 single layer pieces of kapton tape did the trick! (depending on the width of the tape. I think I have a roll of 2" wide kapton.) I hope this helps someone!

@@DoRC Yes indeed. Since it already had a PH 2.0 female connector on the board, I just made a cable with a male ph2.0 on one end and an XT 30 on the other. I grabbed a 1500mah from an RC truck (and a Deans T-connector to xt30 adapter I made before ha ha) and I can just drop that in my back pocket. However >>----> having a cable hanging off of it was instantly annoying! (you've got a radio around your neck on a lanyard, and a drone in your hands you're trying to strap a battery onto already. The cable wanted to spin around the lanyard and the sticks as I leaned over ha ha.) So I will probably use some 650mahs I have that will be a great size for on the headband. Also since I literally just tried that yesterday. If you plug in the 2s/3s charge in port without a battery plugged into the board. You get magic smoke. Luckily I pulled it out fast enough and the goggles seem to work still but definitely not a long term solution. Better to leave the battery in, and use a 3s external pack to that small barrel jack to charge the main battery while in use. Essentially the same result as he got here but without having to open anything up.

Hey the big reason not to do this (I found out the hard way the one time I tried it lol) is it will just destroy your 3s battery. It doesn't shut down at 3.3v per cell when you are using it that way, so it will just drain the cells until your battery is barefoot, fat and pregnant and doesn't want to do anything anymore. ;)

Bu the way Nik, would definitely not recommend this. Just get on amazon and buy some xt30 connectors. That way you can just plug in your batteries (notice plural) at the field, and charge them normally with your charger. The main reason though is the cells will most definitely become unbalanced and your battery will become junk after you charge it that way a few times. Really people, these goggles are great (read story below) with a powerful receiver, and I've used all the FatSharks etc. Do this mod right and you'll love them even more. So I would just like to add these notes to Do RC's excellent video (mostly covered below already): [ ] Hit like and subscribe and hit the bell to support our friend here! [ ] Use connectors. If you already have 2s batteries, put the same type on the other end so you can swap packs and properly balance charge them. The connector in the goggles for the battery is PH2.0. [ ] Don't use the built in charger anymore after doing this mod. It will slowly kill your batteries. [ ] If you use the 3s cable, keep in mind it will happily destroy your battery when you leave the goggles on (it only senses low voltage on the internal battery, not the one connected to the charging port.) [ ] Consider making another longer extension cable to plug into the female xt30 you put by the headband. Make it long enough to pocket the battery. [ ] Always hit record! It may help you find your drone that went down when you watch the video. [ ] Hit like and subscribe and hit the bell to support our friend here! Drew (Le Drib from Rotor Riot) even flew my pair of EV800d's while I was trying his DJI goggles. He actually said, "Wow! I forgot how good these are." I said yeah I hate to say it but I try the fatsharks and I don't enjoy flying with them." Le Drib said, "Yeah box goggles are better! Fat shark just set out to make cooler looking goggles for your face." Of course the DJI goggles were amazing, but for the money these are fantastic, and now they have a newer model - also great.

@@sleepyheadfpv1507 it really doesn't matter what connector you use. The current draw from the Goggles is low enough that pretty much anything will work. Just use whatever is convenient. I chose xt30 because that's what I had. I recently went with bigger battery and switched to the new betafpv bt2.0 because it's smaller and more convenient. As far as battery size goes I say get the largest you can that's still small enough to conveniently attach.
