I came here to suggest this. :) Also, Bec, you can prune off the bottom leaves of your tomatoes so they don't get wet when watered. That's what brings in the blight. You've got this!!

We would get a different small caterpillar on this pine every year. We took a spray bottle with water and added some dish soap. When you sprayed them, they would just fall off the pine and not go back because of the soapy residue. This never hurt the pine and worked every time. If it works for you, you might get a car sprayer for the hose that holds some soap. That should get the ones up high. Best thing, you don’t even need a permit.

Just a quick tip: when watering your plants, don’t pour it over the plant itself, pour it into the soil. Because when it’s that sunny and you water the leaves, the droplets will act like a magnifying glass and burns the leaves. So maybe water the plants in the early morning and when the sun goes down. Try slippery caterpillar taps, available on Amazon. Also this: The most common treatment used against gypsy moth is a spray of Bacillus thuringiensis, commonly called Bt. This bacterial insecticide kills caterpillars that eat it within a week of its application. Bt is found naturally in soil and degrades within a week when exposed to sunlight.. also made place some canvas over the shower to help keep it clean. Nature is beautiful but has its’ ugly side too.

One method of saving your trees is wrapping the trunk in burlap. This is what York Region is recommending ... maybe you can do this on the trees closest to the cabin: Wrap burlap around the tree’s trunk at chest height, secure with a string or rope in the centre and fold the top half over the bottom half to form a bit of a ring. The best time to check the burlap bands is in the afternoon, when the caterpillars seek refuge from the heat of the mid-day sun. Caterpillars can be removed and placed in a bucket of soapy water for a day or two before disposing of them. Always wear gloves when handling caterpillars and egg masses to avoid an allergic reaction Note: check your burlap bands daily to ensure birds or any other wildlife don’t get unintentionally caught.

@@curiousnomadic We don't have gypsy moths here in Colorado I'm not sure on that! There's a lot they do to trees though that isn't just removal. We live in the city so a lot of the pruning they do is to keep the tree healthy. There are also injections that can help with some of the bugs we have here. But our bugs usually burrow into the trees so I'm not sure if that would help with the gypsy moths on the outside of the tree...

I'm not sure if it will work with Gypsy Moths, but my grandfather used to soak 1 can of tobacco in a 5 gallon bucket of water for 2 days, then strain out the leaves. He used his garden mister and spray all the plants he didn't want caterpillars or aphids on once a week or so and the bugs left them alone. Any food plants would have to be washed before eating, but even home produce needs washing. Apparently the re-dried tobacco makes a good bug barrier around the edge of any mulched areas in a garden as well.

drops of water and the sun will cause burned leaves. better to water plants and grass in the evening on hot days.
@paulmara26953 жыл бұрын
Hey Bec- when watering plants, water around the base of the plant not on top of the plant. Plants absord water through the root system. You can cause some damage to the stems by watering on top of the "leaves" / flattening them. Helps them to grow better

Hey Bec! Absolutely love your garden!!! Just thought you might want a small tip - don’t water the leaves directly under the sun if you can help it - it can cause them to burn. If you do it in a weak or diluted sun - like first thing early in the morning or late in the evening it causes less overall damage to the plant. And also watering your plant for 1-2 mins really helps make sure the soil is saturated. However yours are in pots so you can probably cut that in half - but just some food for thought! They look fantastic great job!

If you want a trick for gardens flowers or veggies water them at night instead of the morning. My dad gave me this trick andy flowers and veggies are amazing this year. I water them around 8 pm.

Never water your plants in full on sun, they will get burned. Water in evening time is better 💚💚 Love your videos! You guys rock life 🙌🏼✨💚

neither one of these is true. It's a myth that the sun burns wet leaves. And never water in the evening, it causes fungal diseases. Water in the morning/early afternoon, and at the roots.
@thepsychedelicfairy3 жыл бұрын
@@peggydwyer1932 no because the early morning sun is heavy in the northern part of the globe, evenings are best. Trust me, my grandmothers teach me this when I was a child. I also “tried” to water in the mornings and the leaves burned. I’m not telling stories or lies, I’m telling the truth so don’t say it’s not true. 💚💚

@@thepsychedelicfairy well, you keep on doing you then. To all others, I suggest you google this. I'm a certified rosarian/horticulturalist, and not sure what to say, except that you're wrong. And lucky. You've avoided powdery mildew, rust and many other fungal diseases.

Great to see a much more casual ‘day in the life’ , Eamon - it’s nice to see the dishes got dried ( and funny on Bec for thinking you skipped out), for me the highlighted moment was the ‘Bro’ moment of sharing a new haircut. Max- (from the ‘Max and Occy’ channel) , looks great with his new do! I love the parallel and cross over on channels ( with VanWives too). Now, if only we could see some ‘across the world weight lifting competition between these two rock star gents! Who knows, maybe Bec and the VanWives too!
