When you plan to build something complex from ikea, the most important part is that you make sure you are able to focus enough to see all the details in the instructions. This is why Eamon fails a little bit, he tries to think for himself which is generally good but with ikea you have to really take in the instructions, not make your own plan in your head. Ikea drawer help: there are two sets of holes on the actually TRACK that you screw into the cabinet. When you are moving the track up and down to different holes in the cabinet, you can also make smaller adjustments by screwing into different holes on the track itself. There is a top set of holes and a bottom set. Hope this helps! You guys are awesome.

I got my degree in IKEA a long time ago. You have to follow the booklet that’s in the box the crap came with. Each booklet will be slightly different. That’s how they f*ck with you. I also refuse to build ikea with my husband!!! 🤣 😂 So not worth it! You just have to take you time and remember to breathe and when you get frustrated go break something else!

Yeah, because there’s always some other configuration that any given piece might also be used in (necessitating different holes or whatever). I have come to really enjoy IKEA assembly, but you have to become one with the instructions and not wing anything. If I can’t see it what they mean at first, I’ve learned to sit with the booklet longer rather than trying to figure it out by playing around with the gear too much.

Thank you for sharing you grief so graciously. Losing someone to suicide during this pandemic is brutal. I lost my mother last May. Grief has its own stigma and its own silence. On top of heavy emotions it brings, it adds another layer of misunderstanding, isolation, confusion, and growing pains in the transition. I just want to say it sucks. It really does and please know you are doing your best. I also speak up for you and for all of us trying to survive losing beautiful people while trying to find beauty in the world. Speaking to this and the isolation of grief is so important, thank you for speaking and showing up. You are not alone, you are seen, and you are held in the space you are in. Something that helped me was a quote I got during another heavy transition period in my life from a therapist "you are not responsible for others reactions or actions. However, you are responsible for finding your healing." I hope you guys are finding ways to find your healing and find those beautiful moments of gratitude that come with the searing grief. The signs of her will come in beautiful, hilariously random, and shattering ways. Let them shatter you and fill you with her spirit. It is beautifully brutal. It is all so beautifully brutal. Much love and solidarity

Cabinetmaker tip: assemble everything first then install in place. Also clamp your two cabinets together at the gables when screwing them to each other or to a panel, use a countersink (shallow one so you don't poke through) and a shallow pan head screw. This avoids saw dust from getting in between the gables and leaving little gaps between the cabinets.
