I know I am 2 years late to the party, but there are a few things to point out. 1st is add milk first, not later if you want more air in your cake. I'd expect those made here would be dry and compact. 2nd and my little pet peeve, the "strong" tea. Tea goes bitter if you steep to long. If you want stronger tea you add more tea. More tea=more taste, more time=more bitter. Anyways, I'm gonna have a go at this later.

Exactly, first thing I noticed as well. I find that earl grey tastes it's best and smoothest if you just steap it briefly.

Thank you for the recipe & your lovely presentation 😃 Do you know a good natural replacement for eggs? I do not like/use egg beaters or processed egg substitutes. Also, when you are steeping tea bags in hot milk vs hot water, you definitely need to steep them a bit longer, but not so long that they become bitter. I agree, stronger tea = more tea/teabags, not boiling it for longer. I think the cake would taste more delicate if you use Earl Grey and Lavender Tea as opposed to plain Earl Grey Tea. Twinings makes really good EG & L tea!

Had a fun time making this cake! I used the same ingredients and checked the description for the steps and everything. I just made a cup of milk since the instructions were unclear. For the 1 1/3 Baking Powder, the instructions were unclear, 1 1/3 what? Be specific. Instead, I used 1 1/4 tsp of Baking Powder. I baked it in the oven the at 325 F, for 45 minutes. Wasn’t cooked, so I let it go 15 minutes more like the recipe wanted, and it was perfect. For the icing, using 4 tablespoons of strongly steeped tea was way too much and the icing was a bit watery so I added more powdered sugar (otherwise known as icing sugar). Once I put this on the cake, it became a nice glaze on top and was alright. Hope this helped!

So i just made this recipe and its super great for a simple, easy and tasty cake. I used 1 and 1/3 cup of milk and two teaspoons of baking soda as otherwise it doesnt rise too much. I also add the milk to the wet ingredients THEN add the dry ingredients. It tastes more like a lemon cake with a hint of tea rather than a plain earl grey cake.

Julie is the absolute greatest. I thought she was going to say she wanted to look like a fairy or something in her outfit - but instead a bag of tea! Brilliant.

Thank you for this recipe, it's my new favourite! Already made it 4 times, but I left out the lemon... I used 3 earl gray teabags and 2 madame gray teabags, wich was a good amount of flavour in the cake. Also, I added the milk earlier and the dry ingredients as last, only folding them in slightly to get it wet, this keeps the dough moist and fluffy. For muffins, I left them in the oven for 20 minutes (got about 15 muffins from the recipe)

@DunyaPax888 жыл бұрын
If the milk is just warm, you should probably add it with the wet ingredients, then fold in the dry. Overmixing the flour into the batter like the video shows might give you a dry, dense cake. At least in my experience. Choux pastry (cream puffs, eclairs) is one of few recipes that calls for the overmixing because the dough is made in a pot, over heat. So you add eggs after the flour to avoid them being scrambled. But here, I would advise adding the milk before the flour.

I don’t particularly like cake, but I wanted to try an Earl Grey cake after hearing about it. I like that this makes a small cake since there are only two people in my house. I made the cake with a few tweaks: I used 1.5 teaspoons of baking powder (no one has a third of teaspoon!) and I only used 3/4 cup of sugar. When mixing, I alternately added a 1/3 flour to egg/butter mixture then added 1/3 of milk and just mixed until all was combined. I didn’t bother with the glaze. It is fantastic plain. Next time I am going to bake it in a nine inch square pan with less time. I’m also going to swap out orange zest for the lemon zest. Thanks for this recipe! I have a new favorite.

The cake looks adorable!! Love how you mentioned Kate Middleton lol. One thing that I'd probably suggest to everyone is probably trim the cake before you cut it into smaller ones (petit fours). It will look a lot nicer and evenly layered if you"re serving at an event such as a birthday party, engagement, wedding, etc. Unless, of course, its for your own household and you don't mind the imperfections, a.k.a perfectly imperfect:) This will save you some time, knowing from experience.
